    So i just built a coop and have 4 chickens and only one of them hows how to use the ladder I made. They try to walk up the side like a tight rope, and get frustrated and go back down when they start sliding. I put some plywood on top of the ladder and made a ramp just like the one you showed.... Waiting for tomorrow to see if they use it! But I love the look of the ladder and would prefer it, but my chickens might be special lol

    I like that you can see through the ladder

    I started with a ladder, but the young pullets seemed to have difficulty. I added a ramp and it was easier for them. Both are in the coop and they are larger now and are using both. So, it may be an issue for the ladder with younger/smaller birds. Thanks for the video.

    My girls love their ladder-- they were 4 ½ months old when they moved into their Carolina Coop, and they did figure out the ladder pretty quickly! I had to give assistance the first few times, one or two of the girls would stop at the top or just inside the Henhouse, causing a fluffy traffic jam on the ladder! They're good now, though, and I'm getting over the need to clean... LOVE LOVE LOVE our Carolina Coop!!!

      Sometimes you can just scrap off the droppings if they land on a step, and it just falls right into the run. Easy, peasy. And yes, there is always that one that causes a traffic jam at the top. Thanks for comments.

    I put ladders in my coop. The girls liked it. But since the coop is on the ground they only needed help getting up to their roosting bars. So I put one bar lower to the ground and they used that to get up to the higher ones.

    Tip- stain your ladder brown even if your coop is white.

      Totally. You can also Shou Sugi Ban the ladder (one in the video of the hen walking up was done that way) and you don't have to worry about staining it.

    I love the ladder - thinking of DIY version. Is the side frame 2”x4” and the rungs 1”x2”?

    You just made me want to try a ladder because it’s shorter and cleaner. Thanks for the tip.
    What kind of oil do you use? linseed?

      We love Cabot Australian Timber oil for a natural wood look.

      @@CarolinaCoopsVideos Good to know! Thank you very much for the tip! I’m always afraid to use that kind of stuff around the chickens because of the fumes and it usually smells strong for weeks. I’ll try what you suggested. 🙂🐓

    After watching this I really want a ladder, but I have silkies 🥺
    Would a ladder work if the incline isn't steep and has the bumpers you mentioned? What if I have extra rungs so they're a little closer together? Kind of like the smaller interior ladder showcased in this video. I can suck it up if the modifications aren't worth it, but I'm all about making clean up as easy as possible!

      It's been our experience that silkies do better with the ramp then the ladder. That's not to say a silkie won't or can't navigate the ladder, but for the most part, we have found people with silkies (which cannot fly) will be more comfortable using the ramp to get in and out of the henhouse. Hope that helps. Thanks for your question.

    I like ramps as i may have "special" birds. I dont mean silkies but some banties & i have often "rescued" injured or handicapped birds. Sometimes i have confused ducks that think they r chickens & ramps work best for them

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  Рік тому

      That's why we still offer the ramp, because there are many flocks where it is a necessity. Thanks for sharing.

    Hi guys, there is a way to get maps or instructions to build your own coop? I’m living in Portugal😂. Do you sell the blueprint? Or instructions

    • @CarolinaCoopsVideos
      @CarolinaCoopsVideos  10 місяців тому

      We don't sell our plans. We can ship to Portugal. Many DIYers watch our videos and build from those tips too.

    Is it possible for Carolina Coops to offer rope wrapped ladders?!?

    “You don’t have to clean your ramp/ladder”?WHAT?! Everything inside your coop/run must be cleaned regularly.
    I think the ramp is safer for Chickens… And that is the number one priority over aesthetics for anyone who actually cares about Chickens

  • @Eric-ve9pc
    @Eric-ve9pc 4 місяці тому

    Meh, chickens run up and down a ramp easily. They hop/ climb ladders and would more likely pause on a rung ladder over a ramp with treads to poop. I appreciate innovation. But this ain’t it.
