- This video is about basic centrifugal pump used in piping, different parameters governing its operation and corresponding piping layout. Factors like cavitation, vapor pressure, NPSH play an important role in deciding Pump piping layout.
Based on the location of suction and discharge nozzle, few common types of pumps are as follows:
• End suction Top Discharge pump
• Top Suction Top Discharge pump
• Side Suction Side Discharge pump
• Side Suction Side Discharge pump
There are more types of pumps available.

As a client, if you have the choice between two manufacturers submitting for the same pump. would it be better to choose the manufacturer proposing its pump with NPSHa>>NPSHr than the one proposing its pump with just not very far from the calculated NPSHa. does this means that the design of the former is better such as impeller size etc...Thanks in advance for your reply.

As usual excellent video. I have two queries:
1) Why the sump pump pipe installation should be avouded in pit?
2) Why pump should not be placed under gas/air cooler?

2- hydrocarbon leekage under gas/air cooler can reach motor of electic pump and this can be hazardous. 1)-i guess the answer is- if u place pipe inside pit ..u again have to go to pit to open it for maintenance and the sump pit has bad odour + harmful gases .. for more on this visit
