Just got some new construction black windows for my building soon to be off grid cabin. Very informative and well explained. Even though the fan was hard to understand, the rest of the video answered all my questions. Thank you!!!

Thanks! No more fan. Installed a Mr. Cool DIY mini split system and it works great...Good luck on your cabin window install.

Did you use 2x4s all the way around the window on the inside? I saw the bottom and top. Need to install 6 in my building your video is VERY helpful! Thank you.

Yes, I installed 2x4’s on the top, bottom and both sides to get the rough opening the window required. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Would of been nice to hear what you had to say. Next time try doing a narration over the noise.

Agreed. My first video and wasn’t familiar with how to do voice overs. I might go back and edit this one again.

I’m trying to visualize the caulking of the J channel to the metal siding at the cutout. Wish you would have shown how that was installed. Is the wider 2 1/2 flat surface of the J channel just pressed against the interior metal wall? Resting on the 2x4? Or caulked to the wood frame on the inside? Thanks, Eddie

Eddie - Yes, the 2 1/2" flat side of the J channel slides between the metal siding and the 2x4 then you screw it from the outside. So from the outside you are screwing thru the metal siding, thru the J channel into the 2x4's. The long side of the J channel slides between the metal siding the the 2x4's. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Perfect video!
How much bigger did you cut the rough opening for the window?
Looking to do the same, but is a half inch extra enough? Thanks!

Hey Zachary I made the rough opening 3/4 inch larger than the width and height of the window. You could probably get away with a half inch you just want to give yourself enough room to plumb the window once you put it in the opening. Hope this helps and good luck with your project.

So did you place the window nail trim behind the metal and between the 2x4 or did the nail trim flange go on top of the outside metal 🤔

I placed the J channel/trim behind the metal and between the 2x4. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

The audio is terrible. Can't hardly hear a thing. And the music is over the top.

Sadly 68 seconds into your video and I could not understand your commentary over the machine in the background…. Maybe you should do an overlay of your description so that me and others can understand your words Better…. Greg

Yes, it was the middle of summer in Florida so I had my 48 inch fan on. I did go back and add captions in those sections where the fan noise was too loud. Thanks for the feedback and I hope that helps.
