    Ive been using that knife for over 6 years, going on 7. Its my bench knife in the shop doing any cutting task you can think off in the shop, around the house, even acted as a spackling knife for touchups and then I would use it around the firepit to baton and breakup small 1/4 rounds. Its a great knife. Sold my garberg bc this one is so much better.

    For bow-drill fires in Colorado, and the Mountain West in general, use a Cottonwood fire board with a Juniper or Sagebrush spindal.

    That's a smart little knife! Really love how easy it looks to use. The ability to change grips without discomfort and too much thought, and that amazingly effective scandi grind blade just makes this super appealing! Thanks for the vid, Aaron.

    Aaron's, thank you for your reviews. I have added the Tanimboca Puukko to my collection several months ago. The Tanimboca Puukko is a very capable knife blade that is very durable. The handle ergonomics is a very common neutral "broom handle" style handle. The handle will work well for medium and large hand grips. This blade works well for any blade tasks that are needed. It is one of our go-to blades and is used probably more than any other blade in our collection. I only throw my two cents in when I really like the product
    I also usually pair the Tanimboca Puukko with the Brush Wolf. You cannot go wrong with either or both of these blades. I like that Tops Knives are made in America and are "Top Quality". Thank you

    Owned it for yrs works great for its size sharp spine which most tops knives don’t and mostly harden just the edge and not the spine and I like a sharp spine for scraping wood fibers or striking a fire steel it also has bow divot and a non polished grippy micarta handle for a better grip even when wet some don’t like the screws used in the handle because of looks but it doesn’t bother me at all.

      Looks like a good knife! Those grinds are good for slicing and carving, but not the most ideal for all bushcraft tasks.Notihng beats a 3mm low scandi edge. That's why knives that are close to these specs, like the Skookum, the Bushcraft Black. This knife here, is a more versatile knife, rather than specialized, that those others I mentioned are! for our ...large size hands 😉
    Its gonna be gone Brisa told me they aint gonna make them now. It comes with their good sheath and dangler. I wish Brisa would not discontinue it but thats the knife world.

      Imo scandi grind is a little better for carving, if it's a true scandi, but it's too obtuse with thicker steel like the 2.5-3.3mm models, only the basic has a thin enough blade to cut food nicely. Pukko grinds are more shallow with a quicker to sharpen small bevel. Scandis from mora and others that run their steel at 55-58 HRC and %12 degrees per side just rolls too easily for anything harder than carving softer woods, and if you put a secondary on the scandi, you might as well go pukko grinds for better food cutting

      Our grandfathers knives and all the way back, most didn't have gurads. Only some daggers used to have guards. I still have my grandfathers knives and none has one. I like the knife to have a small one, or a similar desing like the Mora 2000/Kansbol, which doesn't get in the way, but still it gives the feedback of tha handles limits! That's perfect for me!!

    • @mikafoxx2717

    I understand the fear of slipping while using a Puuko knife, and slicing your hand wide open.
    However, consider that years ago, many men carried non-locking folding pocket knives and did a lot of work with them. And most of these pocket knives had smooth scales, and no finger guards of any sort either.
    My first hunting knife was an inexpensive Soligen lock-back folder with a carbon steel blade, and smooth wooden scales, and I never hurt myself gutting, or cleaning animals with it, although I always knew that I had to be careful, or I was going to the hospital, and hiking out with a badly cut hand would be no fun.

    IMHO puukko knives aren't great because they have that saber/Scandi grind plus signature handle design (I prefer Essee Izula and some of the Beckers, but his is purely a personal choice), they are neat because the Swedish obsession with the design, coupled with their permissive knife carry laws, means imported Puukko's are plentiful and cheap - incredible quality under $50 even under $30. There are some American companies, like Tops, who make upscale designs (and are worth every extra penny) but for the average country dweller, a cheap Morakniv etc. with one in every car and tool box and bedstand is an attainable goal.

    • @glbwoodsbum2567
      @glbwoodsbum2567 Рік тому

      Agree. I also feel that the cheap, hardware store screws in the handle are ridiculous. I guess I long for the days where manufacturers would pin their handle. When a knife manufacturer uses relatively cheap carbon steel, inexpensive handle material, and a ridiculously cheap and ugly method of fastening said handle, then charge 100 plus dollars for it, I usually lose interest real fast. I love puukkos. Puukko basically just means knife but often used for small fixed blades they would use in cold climates instead of a folding blade. Usually a stick tang for that reason. It's a take on the puukko but not the best. Size and shape are ok. I see no use for these two holes in the front. I miss the lanyard hole at the back for working over open water, maybe gutting fish outside the canoe. These scews are ugly and also see no use for the bow drill holes. Carbon steel and a leather sheath are not the best in wet climates. The carbon steel will rust and the leather will rot. Still the best Tops design knife. Not a fan of Tops design and also this design compared to a real Scandinavian design and taking in consideration the price it's a no for me. I think the designer was limited by Tops, not given free hand. I think Tops set some parameters. There's no other way I can explain this. The only selling point possibly being USA made. In wet climates I would choose my 12C27 steel Brisa Elver any time.

    NOPE! I don't like Tops. I can always find a better knife in better quality, made in The U.S. at a better price.
