Working on a 1986 US Marine Force (chrysler/sea king) and was worried it wasn't putting out enough water. Putting out the same amount you had there. Still have to replace all the lower seals. Oil was fine until I ran it in water and then it was MILKY. And there was a slight clog in the uptake tube so we will see. Thank you!
Same sort of. it's listed as a Viking 9.2. Opened it up and the impeller seems swollen. Takes a lot of force to spin it in the case. So trying to get a new one.
Just picked up a boat with a 9.6 sea king. Was worried it wasent spitting enough water. But it ran all day didn't overheat and after watching your video seems to be putting out the same amount. But if I need to check for debris or new impeller now I know how. Thank you
I really appreciate this video! I’m currently fixing a 1980 Chrysler Sea King 15 Horse. My uncle had it after he and my dad overheated it over 20 something years ago. The head gasket is blown and I’m in the process of replacing the impeller. I have the lower unit off and the impeller still looks intact, but there seems to be calcium or something dirty. Could cleaning it and replacing the impeller do the trick? I’m also getting the head machined at a shop as well as a new head gasket. Thanks!
@@ExtremeDIYGuy is it a bearing on the water pump housing where the shaft goes through? Mines does not spin and I can’t find anything online about the water pump housing?
@@Samuel-zl7yw There's a pin on the shaft that engages a sot on the impeller. IS that what you're asking? No bearings on teh water pump housing though, just a bushing and a seal on the top where the shaft goes through.
@@ExtremeDIYGuy Yeah where the shaft goes through the water pump housing. I thought it looked like a bearing. Is there a name for that part because mines has a small crack going on. And underneath the water pump into the lower unit? That is the same kind of seal?
@@Samuel-zl7yw Crowey Marine should have that part, check part 45 on their diagram here. www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/parts/1844_70.cfm?mdl=IEXQEC But you might want to double check the engine model number. The bottom plate does not have one but you want a water tight sea between the plate and the lower unit as well as the plate and the housing.
Thanks for your time and demo, I have a Sea king 1966, 9.2 that was given to me and getting ready to do some work on it. Normally I prefer Evinrude/Johnson and their website for parts are very easy to Identify but I don't have the same luck with any Chrysler outboard parts. What site to you go for in locating parts? Gracias for you video
Great video. I have a Chrysler 9.9hp and whenever I start it there is black oil leaking out between the mating surface of the lower gear unit. I checked the oil in the lower unit and it's not black so I'm not sure where this oil is coming from. Also what oil can I put into the lower gear unit any help will be much appreciated.
Hi I have a 9.9 I been working on believe it’s a force but looks just like this one. When you look up into the engine does yours have a tiny hole next to the pickup tube? When I blew water into the pickup tube it comes flying out of this hole which to me looks like it was drilled out for some reason.
Hey Nacho, I don't have that engine anymore so can't take a peek to see. I would say the size of the hole is immaterial even if it was drilled out. You can run the engine and as long as warm or hot water is coming out of the exhaust port you should be good. I also used a IR temp thermometer to check the running temp on mine. BTW, Nice Nova. Let me know when you're ready to sell it 😀
@@ExtremeDIYGuy Imma take that car to the grave with me 😂 but I found the problem I believe and feel very very dumb…. I took the floor outta my boat and now it sits like a foot higher then it used to and then motor is sitting too high now. I need to notch the board out in the back like the other one used to be and should be all good

As long as the impeller is in good shape I would go ahead and re-use it. Just make sure it's not brittle.

I have a 1978 10 hp and I had to shift it in reverse to get it to open up enough to get the Allen bolt exposed
Sometimes shifting is required for removal.

Lucio, I use marineengine.com to get the right part number. I may order from them or search the internet with the part#

That's probably just unburnt oil in the exhaust. I use regular 90W oil on this one which should be fine.

I noticed that when testing hte engine, it has to sit fairly low in the water for the impeller to work. I dont blame you on the car lol!
Do you know where I can find one for my 1966 SeaKing & have it shipped hopefully tomorrow? It’s a 9hp
I would double check with them but marineengine.com looks to have the part you need www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=SIE18-8062
Good video
Thanks for the visit
Where od thermostat?
I have a 7.5 Chrysler sea king and can’t find a water pump anywhere, anyone know where to look?
I would check around on eBay or amazon seems like there are still parts available. Hope this helps!
