I remember seeing these birds depart when I was a young creature. One thing this video can not truly duplicate is the sound... You can not just hear the sound but FEEL the sound in your bones. That's how loud they are.
Amazing lovely very loud Rolls-Royce Spey finest engine sound! I love this noise of jet thrust which the hot air is partly braking the sound barrier but reduced by those hushkits nozzle. Thanks for posting this very rare video!
Good idea for them to put the engines rearward. Wonder what it would have been like to be a passenger sitting aft of the wings with those jet engines on them.
Heard the trident Stuart, showing my age now lol seriously the 1-11 was deaf!! I live 15 miles from Manchester airport and back in the day you could distinguish a1-11 was taking off and hear the rumble!!
Totally Agree!!! I lived about as far from our local airport and 1 day I just wondered if they'd stop the flights when they decided to switch to newer aircraft, lol.

I remember these bad boys from BOH. Even eardefenders didn't help. The loudest plane ever :)

I was Flt Eng on these in Oman 76-78...often did Hurn to Muscat (Seeb)...
I was listening at 40% volume on my headphones and it was still way too loud. My ears were ringing after I took them off.
