I rode Alpe D'Huez on my old 1996 Mountain bike a few years back. We were following the TdF in our Motorhome and I thought I'd give it a go...... Nothing really prepares you for just how long these Alpine climbs are. They are steep for such a long way. All the UK climbs I did were over with just a relatively few minutes effort but these are something different. You think you're near to the top at turn 4 but then you look up and see the Ski Lodges .. way above you ... and you realise there's still a slog ahead of you.
@@gohumberto yup, the real Alpine climbs are relentless and so steep. I’ve done a few around Annecy and if your hearing is not right it’s brutal. What was your mountain bike like?! Maybe heavy and under geared?
I've only done the alp once or twice. Think my best was 1 hour 15 minutes. This is my ride in place of a run tomorrow so it fills me with dread but I know it'll be a solid workout. Wish I could do it anywhere near that time lol Glad you're back easing into the running ✊️
@@TheRunningWhale the alp is relentless but as you say a decent workout. I find the turn segments help the grind! Have you ridden Ventop in France? That’s longer and more relentless! 🥵
@sagsdothedu is that the 4000ft one? I remember doing one last year that took me ages as part of the tour de zwift. Was a killer , I nearly rage quit sulking about it being too hard lol
@@TheRunningWhale yeah 1480m I think. If you don’t pace it well it is an absolute killer😳. Have a great ride today. You’ll appreciate the workout after I’m sure 👌
