- A ride in one of Dayton RTA's NovaBUS RTSs (9701-9760). Dayton RTA has been retiring these buses since about 2008 because of the arrival of the new Gillig LFs. There are about 15 or less of these buses left in weekday revenue service. This is route 5 southbound; I began at Keowee Street and make my way in front of Wright Stop Plaza. Enjoy!
Update
Today July 1st, 2010: The Novas are still around rode #9753 on Route 17.
Man the sounds of this video takes me back to childhood. I miss the transitmaster audio announcements
I miss the sounds of a 6V92TA.
RTS's #9140-#9149 from the MTA had this same powertrain (Cummins M11E/Allison V731). #9141 for some reason got repowered back to it's original Series 50.
The only reason why I miss them is that they are the last RTS series bus in Dayton. I've also experienced them breaking down while ridding them; not fun on a hot summer day. I take it that you're not a big trolley fan by that statement.
Those were the good old days.
@TTC4300 This is a RTS-06.
Sounds like the old 22 routing Derby/Birdland - VA Center, Downtown, Northridge, Miller Lane. During the late 90's early 2000's I can recall the same bus series running on the 22. Now I wish I had a camera/camcorder back then.
Sounds very similar to Vancouver's Flyer D901A's.
When did MVRTA got rid of Route 24- Salem/ Dayton Mall route? I remember rode these on that route when they were still new in Early Spring 1998.
Both series had the Detroit Diesel with Allison 6v92TA transmission, so yes they would've sounded similar.
They didn't get rid of Route 24. Look at their website under schedules.
Wonder if these RTSes are similar to the TTC's?
I do not miss the Novas at all. I heard they were great when they were new, but they constantly broke down on me; especially the back door not closing completely. I'd rather drive a trolley. Thankfully the Novas are no longer in service.
Did you remember the 30 foot New flyers from greater Dayton rta
