Edd`s shop was the heart of the show. He was the star, not Mike. Edd needs his own show, I would watch. I miss Edd China.
According to Brewer, that is not correct.
China was NOT a mechanic. He was just a TV star.
At least, that was what Mr Brewer later said on camera, one of the nastiest videos ever.
And of course, a TV star can easily be replaced.

Edd is incredibly smart, knowledgeable and wise. I love how he's so willing to learn from other pro's expertise, and there's a kind of comradery of experts, pro's who do care about the quality and craftsmanship of their work. I think that's the word that speaks to me of Edd, craftsmanship.

Edd is likeable and has earned respect. Mike comes off as slimy.

Oh, it's the last season when Edd was on the show. That's the one where Edd gets all of 55 seconds to work on the car/truck.
So stupid - the best part of the show for me was almost always Edd working on the vehicle, not Mike 'wheeling and dealing' over it. But each to their own.
It's not the last actually. It was the first one they did in the US, but still with the old format. After that there was one in the UK and then after that one came the last season with Edd, again in the States and this time the format was revamped. This particular season right here was still as great as everything they did back home. Old editing style was simply terrific. And I agree, new format is downright terrible.

I have to laugh at this - Edd has heaps of air time! 😂 …and always has had 70% of air time! Do ppl watch the show or just repeat somebody else’s narrative?

Loosing the heads to valve seat wear would be far more expensive.
The mechanical work was the show. Mike was baggage but his ego demanded his babble be featured. I no longer watch.
It's pretty much standard machine shop work. Now with all the throw-away cars and engines, that kind of work did get a bit more expensive. When there were Iron v8's and inline sixes everywhere in the U.S.A., there was a good machine shop in every town and a few in every city.
Worst part of the video is Mike's head at the end shamelessly trying to take credit for Ed's work

But not to watch because a mechanic/presenter left? Well i dont figure? Ed was a right angry bugger in the last series, also he was never there. Just look at Mike working in garage by himself? And shouting? looking for Ed in garage? Obviously set up for camera, but it has truth in it. He changed! For the worst....time for him to go...nothing ever lasts
@@groovejet33 finally someone agrees with me. I worked on the show as a sound tech. I’ve been around both mechanics Hollywood got into Ed’s head and Ant left his wife got another now getting divorced 🤦 The show works better in the USA however I think the cars were better in the UK show. No worries filming Ants new show no love for Ed China he pissed off the producer and will not work on tv unless it’s UA-cam.
This is clearly one of the videos where they took the engine out for the sake of it. It seems the condition of that engine was very good and there was probably no need to take it out. But this adds up to what Edd said about them going against the roots of the show and making things dramatic for no reason.

Surprising to hear Edd misusing the term "detonation". You want "ignition" (burning) not "detonation" (damaging explosion).
More specifically, you want a combustion process know as "deflagration", which is subsonic combustion. Detonation is supersonic combustion, which produces a supersonic shockwave in the combustion chamber. We here that supersonic shockwave as the sound we call pinking. Ed china should know better. This is first year college engine technology stuff.
He also misused the term for a non-hemi head. He called it a flat head. He should have said wedge.
engine that old, you need to pull the heads and have hardened valve seats installed. Even using a 'lead' additive, eventually the heads will need to be done anyhow. So just do it and get over, anything built pre-unleaded fuel days needs that modification

I know what you are saying, but chalk it up to semantics. A valve-in-block "flathead" is more properly called an L- head design. This Is an OHV engine. Edd was Discussing CC shape. The Chevy 409 had "flat" heads with virtually NO chamber volume. the chamber was in the block. In very modern designs the VW VR6 design had a "flat" head with NO chamber and actually NEGATIVE chamber volume as the valve seating was at deck. Also used only one head even though it is a "Vee" engine. - Sandy, the aging hot rodder and engine Mechanic.
Does anybody know, If this guy next to Edd has a shop for hemi - heads. And where is he located. In the UK or the US?

Even with hemi design it has less than average factory power, 160 hp, for an OHV V8.
I had a mustang with a small block 302, 2 barrel, with 220 hp.
Nobody cares about the mustang though.

Hemi isn't necessarily better. The first, Victorian combustion engines were Hemi's. Many French family saloons, such as Peugeot's, of the 50's were Hemi's. Most Toyota Corollas were.
