About a year and a half ago, I went on my first hiking vacation. Plan was to walk up a mountain and take the cable car back down, but as soon as I arrived and actually saw the mountain, I immediately realized that there was no way for me to actually get up there. The next morning, I decided I'd just go as far as I can and turn around as soon as the trail gets too dangerous. But the instant things got rough, I decided to ignore all precautions and push on. Eventually, I arrived at the cable car station near the summit and had achieved something that I dismissed as impossible less than 24 hours ago. When I went back down, I had the entire cable car to myself and got the most amazing view of the nearby villages as I descended into the valley. One of the most amazing experiences of my life.

43:01 made me cry. That plaque is a metaphor for the BTE project:
"It isn't enough to have just a few righteous people talking about preserving buildings in Minecraft. We need a lot of them."
This project has been built with an ungodly amount of hours of volunteer labor from countries all over the world. The amount of passion and work I have already seen from this project is mind melting and insane. The amount of motivation you guys give me as well as many others is a feat in itself. Every single person that has been apart of this project no matter how little they have built should be proud as it's something most people can't do, including me. I can't wait for what is to come as this this group as already done so much so far. People saying that this project is impossible to complete are completely wrong as I have seen it become possible with my own eyes.
So to everyone on the team thank you for making the impossible, possible.

Pippen, the effort is insane. We've had some troubles in discord and minecraft because of the fall of b1:1 and the rise of Hometowns but props to you man. You did it, Seattle is done and bte is still somewhat active. We share an interest in a minecraft project that I would have never been exposed to if you hadn't invited me to build las vegas on Jan 4th, 2021. I don't play cod, valorant, or fortnite anymore. When I want to relax I hop on the server you put me on and I build my city and the hometowns of others. Kudos to you man for making my time online a really nice experience. I look forward to seeing what you do in the future, pce

Might be the best videos you've ever done. The fact that the event is ultimately a "failure" makes this so much different than your other BTE videos. I enjoyed the more sentimental and retrospective tone of this one, it's a change of pace (not necessarily an objectively better or worse one mind you) compared to the triumphant and motivational tone of the others. It felt, more.. honest? should I say. As they say, we learn from our mistakes and this video was a clear example of that. I didn't expect this to be the tone of the Build it 1:1 finale but nonetheless it wasn't a disappointment in the slightest.
Out of the 5363 buildings built in Minecraft Seatle, I finished a whopping total of one (1), so it would be impossible for me to even comprehend what you and others have done in this project. I admire your constant perseverance PippenFTS, your style of speaking is truly unmatched within the Minecraft youtube space.
Anyways, Godspeed Pippen with all your endeavors and godspeed to the entirety of Build The Earth!
also watching you climb that mountain gave me so much second-hand exhaustion lmao.

awesome how much i related to your hiking experience, pippen. i once went up on the Peak of Love *near* lake Baikal here in Russia. it is 2km tall which is a quarter of everest (although that doesnt represent difficulty at all). we went up there with my family and her fitness group. it was a ~4 hour hike up there. at the beginning, the first 10, 20 minutes it felt awful. infinite, even. but when my legs were at my worst, i saw the 25% sign. my mother, to whom i have been complaining, has told me to go down and take a rest. she thought i was done for good. but i had the biggest second wind ever. i went up. and up. and after a while, i saw the 50% sign. and then the 75% sign. the last ~10 percent were forestless. it looked very similar to the peak of your mountain. it was killing my feet. but the drive of proving my mother wrong, accomplishing a monumentally difficult task for me and the feeling of the inability to turn back puched me up that mountain. it was saddening at first. as we got up, the fog was everywhere and we couldnt see anything. it was underwhelming. but as we sat down to catch our breath, the fog cleared up. we saw everything. other mountains, the city below, the 25% peak mountain and everything. it was worth it.
this video reignited the desire within me to go hiking again. to go for bigger goals. thank you, pippen. i wish you well.

That's partially true. But if we reject society too much then humanity disappears. Because civilization needs society and if we don't have civilization then all we have left is hunter and gatherer tribes, which also for a society.
And in the end the thing which changed him was not his individualism but the responsibility he gained as a father.

This realization of self-actualization before grinding yourself on a project where you're in way over your head is the healthiest thing possible for both the project and your sanity. I know of another youtuber with a similarly ambitious (although completely different) project that, rather than enter the grind of management and motivation fully, he decided day one to have no involvement (aside from setting the foundation) beyond advertising it as a sort of official PR personality. He still does his regular content, he just adds on progress updates for that project to keep the hype up every once in a while. Both he and his project have been healthy, and the content is great for those who enjoy it. That you are considering that model has me relieved for your sake, if a little saddened at the end of an era for Build The Earth videos.

My grandfather went on a lot of hikes. He has bipolar, and I didn't get to know him all that well, but I did get to go on a number of those hikes, along with the rest of my family. I probably haven't been at the top of a mountain in well over a decade, this makes me want to do it again.

I kind of want to climb a big mountain now.
I've climbed a mountain before but it wasn't enough to really challenge me or feel any sense of fulfilment or empowerment, I imagine it would feel nice to do it by myself as well.

Pippen, have considered the possibility of training a generative large language multi-modal model or AI on all the buildings that have been built on Build the Earth. I don't know how much training data would be required but I know you guys have built a lot! Just imagine how much we could do just two papers down the line!

This guy has some mad dedication, but I kind of see it as obsession. And this video is a little creepy to watch in a sense. Some kind of manifesto…over Minecraft. Mad props, but damn man.

at first i thought this was impossible a while ago, but soon realized how quickly people were able to finish a city to 1-1 scale. id absolutely hate to see this project fail or given up on, as its the only thing in minecraft that really catches my interest anymore. wish i could support with helping or donating but im broke and not the greatest super detailed builder either lol

solution : use all the buildings made in build the earth so far to train an ai to finish the rest
