A solo play through of the DC Deck Building Game using a solo variant found on BoardGameGeek.
I typically don't do play throughs of unofficial variants, but this one looked like a solid solo play.

Please note while I do my best, mistakes sometimes happen, but the intent and fun of the game remains intact. Enjoy!!

First off I absolutely love your channel! I'm a fellow board game fan and you're my first go to when I have to learn a new game. I'm a freelance designer as well, so if you ever want a logo, or new designs for a fair price let me know! Keep up the great work!
@DeRon Reese Thanks, much appreciated. I'll keep that in mind ... although I currently am working with a company for a new logo. So maybe for my next "rebranding". :)
thanks Dale, looks like a cool expansion.
@Jessie Martinez I like the new card mechanics ... and the "unofficial" solo variant seems to work well too! :)
"This is our last turn!" --- proceeds to find a zero on a die. ;) I knew you were going to do that.
20 turns taken ... I think. :)
Great video! You could try the Crisis 1 expansion for some official solo mode that is pretty good as well
@118bone Thanks for the info! :)
Love this set! For solo, my starting deck is 8 Punch and 2 Weakness...also cut the main deck to 50, and you have a second timer.
@Steve Barnard Sounds brutal!! What's your average score with this method?
@@DaletheCasualGamer I don't score, it's a matter of winning by defeating all the villains or losing!
@@stevebarnard8580 That sounds interesting. Where can I find more details about the rules you use to play solo? Can you recommend any video to watch and learn? Thank you
This was actually fun to play solo.
Thanks for watching! :)
Played it yesterday for the first time. Now I gotta buy the core game and expansion......
@The-Famous-Davis Enjoy your new games!! :)
6:38 I can’t believe you got rid of Dream! 👀 so busted IMO
@Mai Dixie Normus lol I show the basics of "how to play", showing good strategy ... not so much at times. :D
I would've dropped Carter Hall. Since I can't attack anyone.
Hey Dale, revisiting some oldies but goodies :) What sleeves do you use for the DC DBG?
@Michael Wages At the time I used Fantasy Flight Sleeves for everything ... now, I'd be using Dragon Shield clear matte sleeves. I used FFG for over a decade, and now I can't go back. lol
Dale- great playthrough. Thanks! Any idea of what score would be considered a "good" score? Kind of like how they break it down in a game like Roll Player? Thanks again!
@Scott Sirota This is what I found for "scoring" ...
50 and below- Cities are destroy. Casualties are extremely high. Several heroes loved ones are within the dead or unaccounted for and the government has issued an arrest warrant for the heroes and villains involved in the battle.
51-60- Cities is badly damaged from the battles. Casualties are high a few low level heroes are looking for lost loved ones. The public has lost faith in super heroes and are calling for a change in policy.
61-70- Sever damage has hit several large cities. Casualties have been lessen by the publicly recognized action of the heroes. The rebuilding process has begun and the public is thankful but hesitant to trust these heroes.
71-80- A few cities have taken moderate damage. Casualties are manageable. The heroes and public have begun rebuilding. Still leery, the public is beginning to believe these heroes can make a difference in the defense of Earth and their everyday lives.
81+ Minimal to no major damage to the 1 or 2 cities. Minimal casualties. Heroes earned a greater trust and respect of the citizens, media and government.
Dale the Casual Gamer Thanks! The idea of location damage might make for a cool way to set up a campaign type situation.
The Barbados attack is Unavoidable, so you shouldn't have used the Flash card with Defence...
@Steve Barnard Maybe they should have used all caps on the Unavoidable for me ... oh ... they did. Thanks! :)
Dale - is the hero capture mechanics from Dark Nights Metal, or a variant of the solo rules you linked to?
@Paul Aceto It is a mechanic of Dark Nights Metal. :)
@@DaletheCasualGamer I was almost afraid you'd say that! Your video inspired to get my core game off the shelf, and it may soon be joined by DNM. I found the Rebirth game a bit meh.
@Paul Aceto Glad to give you a reason to get the core game off the shelf! I liked what they tried to do with Rebirth, finding a way to make hero's not use villains in there deck for a more thematic feel ... but it took the quick and easy set-up away which is what I love about this game, along with using it to teach the deck building mechanic to new players. As for Dark Nights Metal ... I like the captured mechanic and ability to get multiple heroes on your team, and what they did with the weakness cards is neat too. I'm glad I got this for my collection. Enjoy!! :)
Are the crisis packs compatible with this?
Hi, which sleeves do you use there? Are they matte on back and clear on front?
I use Dragon Shield clear matte sleeves, which are matte on one side and clear on the other. Love the feel of them! :)
I just got this game. I like it. Plastic man is confusing to me. I don't get his special power
@Purni Nayak Hope you're having fun! The Plastic Man Super Hero card lets you make a card a specific type, like Starter, Hero, Super Power, etc. This sometimes will help trigger other card effects. Hope that helps! :)
What sleeves are used?
@EJRZ Thanks for watching! I had been using Fantasy Flight Sleeves for about a decade, and that’s what I had for these cards. But those sleeves have been discontinued, so I have switched to DragonShield clear matte sleeves. Hope that helps, and happy gaming!
Cool game but I'm not sure it's worth the $40 price tag on Amazon. I got the core game 5 years ago for only $17 and change on sale. If this one came with a game board or play mat, would be worth it.
@TheRmm1976 It's a new release ... hopefully it drops in price a bit. :)
hey Dale... do you need me to send you a 20 sided dice? really 4 dice to keep your timer going... that's crazy...
d20's betray me ... and easily get knocked over, causing me to lose track of time. :)
When a villain enters the line-up aren't you supposed to suffer the attack effect if it has one?
No when it's destroyed you suffer the attack. However if you refill your hand and have a defensive card you may defend yourself.
@@The-Famous-Davis Thanks!
@@dirtydwarf69 🖖🏾
How exactly do you lose. Do you lose if you can't beat barbatos in 20 turns?
@zech lape Yep, it's a timer do go through all the villains. You can read more of the variant at the following link: boardgamegeek.com/thread/895451/solo-variant-first-attempt
You can’t avoid the last super villain with a defense card it literally says unavoidable
@Legendary567 Well they should have used all caps ... oh, they did. Guess my score would have been a little worse then. Thanks for watching! :)
@@DaletheCasualGamer np I made the same mistake too
@@Legendary567YT Indeed Barbados is UNAVOIDABLE.
