went from going 1-3 for two drafts in a row to going 6-3 two drafts in a row after watching your vids, really helped me with learning what to pick and prioritize. thanks!
Just drafted my first 7-win deck thanks to your content!! I appreciate how you try to show off each set archetypes which allowed me to draft an amazing lizard deck!! Thank you man!!
Just finished my ~5th draft and went 7-2 🥳 only started drafting with bloomburrow and this is the first draft i've really had success with. (Even somehow managed to come on top against a Beza/Viper deck with my Raccon/mouse) Cheers to Jim for being my drafting coach throughout lol
In one of the last games (ended around 1:12:03) you picked mouse with the banner, but I wonder if you should have picked bat there, then again there were some big mouse blocks down the stretch.
I think you caught the mouse lane for sure, but I think the open bat lane was there as well... I didn't see an outstanding deck in any direction though. Hoping you pull it together. BELIEVER
I haven't watched arena in a few sets. First consequential change I noticed was the (what I thought was obnoxious) changes to the reach visibility. I thought to myself, "surely, this will prevent any complaints about 'sneaky reach'..."
BELIEVER. I think we missed out on the bat lane and that’s probably where I would’ve personally gone because I think it’s a much better deck than mice but I think our deck ended up pretty solid anyway.
Pack 2 pick 1 I’d take the wicks patrol over the mouse. Manifold mouse doesn’t seem great outside of focused valiant decks which wasn’t going to happen for you at the point you took mouse, you’re already too far outside the archetype. You see you have some white bat cards, so pivoting into black would be on my mind. Then you have the life creed duo, thought stalker warlock came in the next few packs, a couple wax wanes, sonar strike, you get the idea.
And he passed so many late fountain port bells and the great city land that can make a treasure every turn. This would have been a JUICED builders talent deck
Almost looked like a monowhite deck could have come together here. It would be interesting to see a monocolor deck in this format which is so "two color"
"and as I say that there are no more mice" he says as he opens a pack with literally two mouse cards AND a crumb and get it which is great for mice. I think this was a challenging draft, but i didnt understand that commentary hahaha
NONBELIEVER, I think it could win games but other decks are just gonna do whatever the hell they want for too long to see us to 7. It’s not as bad as it seems though, Jim made a decent deck out what he had to work with
Believer, card quality is high, but this feels like a core set draft in format that rewards drafting the most cohesive deck possible. I think it you still go deep, thanks to swinging 4 and 5 drops. Not the best, definitely not the worst.
seems like BW was the lane, but i don’t think you could’ve known that until pack 3. feels bad but is what it is. i think this deck could still steal some big wins though
Deck does not look great. This kind of draft has happened a lot for me in this format, where a lane just never really seems to open up. Usually ends in a trainwreck!
i feel ya, though in this case bats was very open but it was hard to tell at first and he realized that too late. all that being said the deck ended up being kind of an ok mouse deck. the only bad cards he has to play are actually not bad in WR so i dont think its that bad
I think this deck would have been much better if he took those builder talents and two of those fountain port bells. With four banishing lights and the banner, he'd easily block most early aggro damage and outgrow most board stalls. This would've been a juiced builders talent deck 🤌🏾
Once again Draftsmith showing it has no idea when it rates the Sunspine Lynx as a 45... Like what are they basing the ratings off?! We know it's a statistically bad card, and Jim correctly identified that its pretty meh as a card and more for constructed.
Alright I think I'm unfortunately starting to sour on this series. You punt waaaaaay too much. It was good for hearing you talk about general principles of limited when I wasn't super familiar with MTG-specific limited advice, but as a veteran card player it's frustrating to see these just super obvious mistakes. And it's one thing when you acknowledge it, but sometimes you don't even acknowledge the mistake you just move on, or say something like "it's not clear which one was better", when IMO it was very clear which one was better. Or if you don't think so, I'd at least like to know why, because obviously I acknowledge that you are a pro player and I am not. But when you're only explaining the most basic things and yet not explaining the thought process behind a single thing that I would've played differently, I'm not getting any educational value out of the video. Best of luck but I think I've grown out of this content.
Like even with the final game: your hand is a 1 drop, and 3 4+ drops. I'd like to at least hear your thought process behind refusing to play the flowerfoot swordmaster as a 1 drop. You've obviously repeated multiple times that the card "isn't really a 1 drop, it's a 3 drop", but that's just an arbitrary heuristic that you've decided based on a couple draft games and never actually playing the card as a 1 drop. In this particular moment, what is the reason to greed and hold it till turn 3, when it's very likely that by turn 3 you've drawn a better 3 drop? And if you look at how the game actually played out, you drew a feather of the flight that you could've used as a flash on the flowerfoot, potentially trading up with the moonrise cleric on turn 3. That would've also served as a cantrip getting you the nettle guard a turn earlier and potentially removal when you needed it, instead of sitting in your hand dead the entire game until you were forced to use it with your opponent having all their mana up. You talk about these principles of using your mana efficiently and making sure to do something on your early turns, but when these heuristics collide with your other heuristics about specific cards, you refuse to explain why you pick one to follow over the other. That limits the educational value of these videos, even if we accepted that you're playing optimally in the situations you don't acknowledge a punt.
I would not put that red land in your deck btw, it only casts 4 cards in your deck properly, and paying 2 mana just to give something haste is not great even in a mouse-y deck
So your first pick is a banner (which I seriously don’t get) and then you follow up with 5 creatures that have about no overlap in creature types!? Your 6th pick is a mouse soldier of which you both have none! I like your videos but your drafting skills are quite poor. The reason you’ve done so well earlier has to do with your opponents, not how great the deck was (and you’ve also made quite some bad plays). I don’t think this deck will do well, and I hope you’re able to take away some stuff so you’re doing better in the next :). EDIT: you end up with 12(!) different creatures types. I predict banner being an awful play most of the times.

There was what looked like a decent bat deck in there, boo. Hope to see some bat decks.

"Duo is really good." When there are 3 duos in the pack.
Haha yeah I've noticed a few streamers/youtubers making this same mistake haha

Workin' on it!
Believer, i think we missed out on the bats and we missed a good 3 drop mouse in the roughshod duo but you got a decent amount of great cards!
This is like the fourth draft I feel the bats were overlooked. Had really good bats pack one with no other black could have cut into bats hard
Just finished the last episode and saw this in my feed. Great timing Jim! :)
BELIEVER. I think we missed out on the bat lane and that’s probably where I would’ve personally gone because I think it’s a much better deck than mice but I think our deck ended up pretty solid anyway.
roughshod duo is a mouse! nonbeliever this time jim

"That damn bow and arrow isn't big enough!" 😂😂😂😂
I think, black white bats looked good open here
The Builder's Talents would have been sweet with so many Banishing Lights. Triggers our valiant cards, too.
And he passed so many late fountain port bells and the great city land that can make a treasure every turn. This would have been a JUICED builders talent deck

BELIEVER. Missing card-draw, but has an aggressive enough curve, great removal options, and quality top-end.
Tilt at the end was rough to listen to. We all punt from time-to-time, and you always have to account for 'opponent has the stones' along the way.
NONBELIEVER, I think it could win games but other decks are just gonna do whatever the hell they want for too long to see us to 7. It’s not as bad as it seems though, Jim made a decent deck out what he had to work with

Two turn 5 kills? That's pretty efficient for some little rodents!
let's hear it for toddler moms!! lol we're the best
46:41 Would you say it's a surprise tool that will help us later?
seems like BW was the lane, but i don’t think you could’ve known that until pack 3. feels bad but is what it is. i think this deck could still steal some big wins though
How do i sign up to play against your first 3 opponents
Non believer today, hard to find a lane earliy makes the deck a little wobbly
that bow and arrow animation needs to GO. Catching opps with the sneaky reach is so satisfying

Normally you teach to stay open but it seems to work against you in bloomborrow. Would it be worth it to try a draft where you lock in earlier?
Patchwork banner first pick lol
Once again Draftsmith showing it has no idea when it rates the Sunspine Lynx as a 45... Like what are they basing the ratings off?! We know it's a statistically bad card, and Jim correctly identified that its pretty meh as a card and more for constructed.
B E L I E V E R and 1st, yay !
6 or 7 wins imo, so I'm on the fence.
this was one of the sloppiest drafts i've seen. i can't believe the games went as well as they did. it looked like a 2/3 deck to me.
I think u underestimate veteran guard mouse, the scry in agressive decks help u keep the gas flowing. Non believer
NONBELIEVER, some very sketch picks.

non believer. not enough Blacksmith's talent ;)
