Hi man, love the content, but in the last match if you used the assault on the equip artifact you would have got him good I think... Good luck on the climb, the next one you are going to smash it for sure!
I love drafts like these. Not every draft will be on rails and to do as well as you did with this one was fun to watch. I had a similar draft with UW, I got knocked off G but blue was flowing, couldn't give up my white, ended up with a cool UW tokens with Daring Waverider casting Rabbit Response and Eddymurk Crab as top end tempo, got 6 wins in low plat
It was so much easier to fall into a color pair for the first couple weeks. Now, it seems like everybody is trying to stay open in pack 1 and it's sending weird signals. You think you're locked in on an archetype only to be passed two completely blank packs. Also, the last half of every pack just ends up being shitty blue/red cards because nobody wants to play otters. I just hope everybody else's decks are as messy as mine have been lately.
Commenting after pack 2: I understand that UR is the "worst archetype" but you mentioned a lot that its very important to just find your lane. Getting a pick 13 izzet otter in P1 means UR is so open its funny, and you already had some good red spells and creatures. I feel like often times in B2M, whenever the format gets "solved" and the worst archetypes are revealed, you prioritize the "better" archetypes over finding a lane and staying in it. I hope you are able to elaborate more on this dichotomy in later episodes :)
This draft reminds me of how I'll draft good removal in one color (usually black) but then not draft enough creatures or synergy for the rest of the deck.
I think the shape of the food/treasure icons should be changed slightly. Instead of a round curve at the top of the token, make a squared-off place at the top where they could make a little label that says food or treasure, respectively. Nothing huge, but a small, useful tweak.
NONBELIEVER. Wick's Patrol got you good. To be fair, the signals did say 'black is open' with the end of pack 1 just having powerhouse after powerhouse, so I'd fall for it too.
Go easy on me, new to BLB and returning to mtg after a 6 or 7 year break. In game five, last turn at 1:24:21 when we draw the Fountainport, couldn’t we use it to sack the token in play to get a shot at a kill spell for the 7/7? What am I missing?
The Jund mirror match against EntropicEnder is exactly why I am cultivating an interest in draft. An enthralling match. Hoping that I start to improve my form in BLB: GRN: 0/3 GRN: 0/3 RNA: 2/3 WOE: 0/3 Need to jam in more Magic whilst I prepare for BLB draft.
This set is difficult to draft for sure as we see here. However the late wandertale was def the key imo. We didnt see any rb mentors, gev, or core lizard payoffs until much later. Also, Teapot slinger, steampath charger, and cutthroat are all fantastic together and help the rg raccoon or rb lizard deck get there. i have more trophies with red black than anything else so far.
Needed to take the Bandit's Talent there. It was perfect for our deck that wants to grind out the opponent and needs a hard-to-interact-with win con/card draw engine.
Jim, maybe I am seeing it wrong, but if you just killed the one thing stifling your cards in game 1, let them get one huge creature, and then open up all your other kill spells, you turn the gas on right?
I think ignoring that first super late wandertale mentor was a big mistake. Looks like Raccoons were open and they are a very forgiving and flexible archetype if you had a rough draft.
Wow man, this draft looked like how a lot of mine end up going. Pack 1: catch some pretty defining signals late. Pack2: see none of that color or arch type. Pack 3: see the same signals as the first pack, but already hedged to jump ship, leaving the deck super tight with a lot of off color cards.
Non-Believer. But you are making up the best from this melange. Didn't see that win in game one but take what you can. I honestly think you could have picked R-B early - lots of removal there and not trying to pick green. They were better cards, but not really in a focused type (say, squirres) that would have drawn away from Rakdos and just trying to push through with the burny lizards.
A player like Jim doesnt need untapped; I'm not even that good of a limited player and I could tell you 95% of what that ap does just because I've watched the set reviews and know what is important in limited. It is helpful because it gives you more time to think about the good cards rather than identifying them, and it helps the audience see what cards are good without them having to study the set. But it's just wrong to say that Jim did significantly worse in the draft because he didn't have a helper ap.
I definitely see why you took the black cards early But I think when I saw that first red green mentor I would have speculated and picked it up when raccoons is open and you can get one or two of that mentor the deck is very very good I've really been enjoying this season of Bronze 2 mythic much more than all the previous ones this format is very skill testing which is why I see a lot of people complaining about it
NON-BELIEVER for once in the Jim Davis special (Green/multicolored pile of cards). Weird draft to be sure, but a really good Izzet deck was WIDE open, bud.
I spent 5 hours on MTG Arena, and it was nothing short of infuriating. I used two different decks, but no matter what I tried, I lost every single match. It felt like the game was out to get me-every time I chose a deck, it would pair me against its perfect counter. The same frustrating pattern repeated when I switched decks. No matter what I did, I was up against impossible odds. I gave into the hype and wanted to get back into MTG, but right now, MTG Arena feels like a scam.
No one enjoys the soundboard more then Jim himself
Not for my lack of trying :D
I kinda even dislike it 😂 it is annoying
As much as I love the MtG content, I can't be completely sure I don't keep coming back for the Ska.

Excited to see how your drafts change once you get to platinum. I cruised through silver and gold, but it's been a lot harder to find my lane now.

i don't think p1p13 mentor means anything. that card is bad even in the otter deck.
Should've stayed BR control imho, with Bonebind Orator and black Village to recur the Wick Patrols. 9:53
I think the late Gruul Mentor duped him more than the 2 patrols.
@@doormatt72 Mentor is a very rare case of a signpost uncommon that's more for Constructed than draft.
Woah the ska intro
This draft reminds me of how I'll draft good removal in one color (usually black) but then not draft enough creatures or synergy for the rest of the deck.
nonbeliever, but can’t say i haven’t had drafts exactly like this this format. seems either you find the lane or fumble around in chaos, no in between
I agree that the token art isn't that clear, for Food and Treasure
I think the shape of the food/treasure icons should be changed slightly. Instead of a round curve at the top of the token, make a squared-off place at the top where they could make a little label that says food or treasure, respectively. Nothing huge, but a small, useful tweak.
Hooked by the Patrols. Fantastic jazz band. NON-BELIEVER but if the mana gods smile, might do the trick.
NONBELIEVER. Wick's Patrol got you good. To be fair, the signals did say 'black is open' with the end of pack 1 just having powerhouse after powerhouse, so I'd fall for it too.
I agree that treasures and food are hard to tell the difference of
Workin' on it!

1:08:00 Oppo seemingly doing everything they can to throw the game
game 1 was a banger
So glad the ATHF I recommend got used, so sad I had to go to bed and didn’t see it live.
Grats on the new setup!
Hahaha that's the first time I've heard you play the Meat Wad clip. Outstanding work Jim.

set up tour?
Needed to take the Bandit's Talent there. It was perfect for our deck that wants to grind out the opponent and needs a hard-to-interact-with win con/card draw engine.
BELIEVER there's a slim chance, we'll have to be smart, tenacious, resourceful and most of all lucky!
Jim, maybe I am seeing it wrong, but if you just killed the one thing stifling your cards in game 1, let them get one huge creature, and then open up all your other kill spells, you turn the gas on right?

DONT BELIEVE! i never do more than 3 wins with decks like this
FIRST WOOOOOOO 😂
Believer - haven’t even seen draft just blind faith 😂

Tough draft, I am not sure about the strength of this deck. NONBELIEVER

I think that you are too dependent upon that untapped thingamajig.. But it does keep track of your drafts. Hmmm these games were quite silly.

Noticing synergy beats card quality. Non believer
NONBELIEVER. Green was a bad call, a focused Rakdos deck would have been better
NON-BELIEVER for once in the Jim Davis special (Green/multicolored pile of cards). Weird draft to be sure, but a really good Izzet deck was WIDE open, bud.
I dunno... I don't see it for us. Hoping to be proven wrong. NON-BELIEVER
NON. Too much waffling.
Luckiest player in mtga

I feel the EXACT same way, a lot of the time. Sometimes I go on some tears but my winrate is pretty inconsistent
Just hang in there. Draft is king for that reason.
Get good
Play bo3, thank me later
This is a you problem, and blaming external sources won’t help. Always concentrate on how you can improve.
NONBELIEVER. We had a really tough seat, got lost in the sauce, and the deck came out unfocused
