They separate them sometimes but they live together in pods all the time in the wild anyway, that's actually quite a large pool compared to some, there's room for them to be alone in there

Because as trainers their job is not to control the animal. This is not Jurassic Park. These animals are put on display merely to show people who may never get to experience them in the wild may have a chance to witness how truly majestic and beautiful the ocean that we as humans are destroying. These animals aren't kept here for cruel purposes. SeaWorld is the world's leader in research and rehabilitation of beautiful animals such as these. The government won't step in and shut places like this down due to the research and educational aspect of the park. So please fact check yourself before posting.

Heartbreaking 💔 all cetaceans should be free, not imprisoned in concrete cages, preforming for dead fish. If Sea World really and truly cared about orca and cetacean welfare they would be making huge efforts to ensure that a programme for an ocean sanctuary was being set up.
First of all a sanctuary is just a center that doesn't make money out of visitors but donations (something hard, almost impossible to keep for cetaceans) and the word "sanctuary" doesn't really means anything else (it is more use as a marketing strategy because it sounds better than saying zoo or aquarium)... What you are talking about is a sea pen enclosure. This type of enclosure have an important enviroment impact that needs to be consider, plus not all whales would enjoy such a sudden change of environment (the fact that is a more "natural environment" doesn't necessarily means they would be happier there, that's a fallacy). We are already seeing difficulties of this proyects with baltimore aquarium cancelled sea pen proyect, the beluga whale sanctuary in Iceland (already 2 years keeping their belugas in quarantine pool because they had problems to adapt to their sea pen), the dolphin proyect sanctuary in Indonesia (some dolphins have die and no information of cause has been done public), etc.
Those whales born in captivity would likely die, and the money they bring in allows sea world to save millions of animals over the planet. I’d happily live in a fully caged environment and everything I wanted all for the help of saving millions of children. It’s these comments without logical thinking that need to go lol.

Keeping orcas in captivity (unless rescued as injured or orphaned) is inhumane. Captive orcas live less than half the lifespan of wild orcas. Dorsal fins commonly collapse. Nutritional deficiencies, lack of adequate exercise, insufficient pod interaction, no hunting education all lead to neurotic behaviors. Breeding them for this life is sick. International law should ban all orca & dolphin captivity except for rehabilitation of injured individuals. This 60 plus year exercise in greed, not science should be ended. There is nothing we can learn from captives at this point & captives don't live long enough to help save their species either.

Their natural habitat filled with variety is vital and essential to their quality of life. Can we as humans truly say with absolution that this new form of living arrangement is best for these animals? Yes I think it was a good decision to stop waterworks at least for shows. It puts too much pressure on trainers and puts them under a high risk because it doesn't matter how friendly the orca is, it will always be a huge animal that can just kill you by mistake.

There's a reason Sea World is a LOT of walking. From my last visit in 2016, much of Sea World is open space with little to do or see. Sea World is a dying park that has no place in the 21st century. These animals are not appropriate for captivity.

I believe these Orcas are beautiful. I believe there's a reason for them here. I do believe they need bigger pools to swim in & live in. I think it's cruel people want them to not live in any way naturally at SeaWorld as ending their breeding and letting them suffer one death after another and no new babies to their pods. It's horribly sad. I believe they are beautiful creatures and deserve to live as pods here as well. They do teach many people to see them as the Beautiful Creatures they are. My beef is with the hunts on the open waters. Most baby Orcas die within 6 months in the wild so why bash SeaWorld? I'm not wanting a battle on here but I love animals and love that people can see them and learn how awesome they are.
Right and I'm glad they finally got the attention of everyone because they're not supposed to be inside of a pool for show. They need to be out in the ocean. We don't need circus entertainment from orcas. Rotate them out every 3-6 months. No show just ability to see them up close. People are made more aware when there is something tangible.

Trainers are not allowed to swim with the whales anymore in case you haven’t heard .. they train the whales from outside the tank .

Their natural habitat filled with variety is vital and essential to their quality of life. Can we as humans truly say with absolution that this new form of living arrangement is best for these animals? Just imagine for a moment, that these two “trainers” were suddenly abducted and sex trafficked around the world for the rest of their natural lives. Held and used against their will, in a controlled environment, for the entertainment of some and financial gain of others. Certainly we would conclude this is wrong, …yet are we not doing similarly to these lovely creatures?
Just think a few years back those trainers would’ve been expected to get in the water with those Wales right after all that shit just went down

Yes I think it was a good decision to stop waterworks at least for shows. It puts too much pressure on trainers and puts them under a high risk because it doesn't matter how friendly the orca is, it will always be a huge animal that can just kill you by mistake.
A good thing would be to close the aquariums!

Why can't they build good sea pens with big pools, let these animals feel the ocean again and let them live longer. MAYBE you would be able to do waterwork with them again in a pool and than let them out in a sea bay. It does not always have to be black or white. When did SW or any marine land do something for the orcas the last time.like more space and so on??

Killer whale pods have to cooperate to survive and that’s often achieved through the matriarch’s discipline. Or think of them as a pack of wolves-Takara is the alpha female.
Problem with sea world is they often put orcas together and call them a pod. This would never naturally happen in the wild.

I agree, I used to visit the zoos but seeing all the animals looking sad and the sad living quarters they are penned up in. It's not right to keep a wild animal in captivity. Like a prison for just being a species. I say ban all aquatic shows and zoos. There are other forms of entertainment.

There's a reason Sea World is a LOT of walking. From my last visit in 2016, much of Sea World is open space with little to do or see. Sea World is a dying park that has no place in the 21st century. These animals are not appropriate for captivity.
We went this past August and yes- a lot of open space. Not much going on.

Whales live in pods but each pod speaks different so called “languages” so when they bring whales from different pods they don’t understand each other what so ever. In that case they don’t get along and try to over rule each other.

I believe these Orcas are beautiful. I believe there's a reason for them here. I do believe they need bigger pools to swim in & live in. I think it's cruel people want them to not live in any way naturally at SeaWorld as ending their breeding and letting them suffer one death after another and no new babies to their pods. It's horribly sad. I believe they are beautiful creatures and deserve to live as pods here as well. They do teach many people to see them as the Beautiful Creatures they are. My beef is with the hunts on the open waters. Most baby Orcas die within 6 months in the wild so why bash SeaWorld? I'm not wanting a battle on here but I love animals and love that people can see them and learn how awesome they are.
