Not really? Military spending is bloated with horrendously expensive millstone contractors and projects that have gone nowhere. We're spending almost twice as much on the military now as we were when we were simultaneously fighting wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Most of that money could be spent on basically anything else, like infrastructure, healthcare, retraining for displaced markets, education, etc. The money for the F-35 alone -- seven years behind schedule, an unambiguous failure on all counts, and *still* sinking money -- could have been a massive break for extortionate college debt.

The funny thing is, global warming actually began 18,000 years ago, at the start of the current interglacial period. About every 100,000 years (based on extrapolated ice core samples collected by scientists in Antarctica) the earth experiences rapid warming. This is due to natural variability in earth's tilt, orbit, etc that you all can research on your own. These warming periods last anywhere from 15,000-20,000 years. We are around year 18,000 since the beginning of the interglacial warming. That means, we are close to a next ice age!
Now, within these large time scale cycles (warming periods of 15,000-20,000 years) we have smaller ones.
Exhibit A: Earth's climate was in a cool period from A.D. 1400 to about A.D. 1860, dubbed the "Little Ice Age." This period was characterized by harsh winters, shorter growing seasons, and a drier climate. The Little Ice Age has been blamed for a host of human suffering including crop failures like the "Irish Potato Famine" and the demise of the medieval Viking colonies in Greenland.
My point? Earth undergoes both small-scale cycles of warming and cooling, as well as large scale cycles (ice ages and interglacials)
Yes, humans are perpetuating this current warming cycle. Yes, carbon into the atmosphere leads to higher temperatures. Yes, we need to invest in cleaner energy. However, to use a singular natural weather system as a way to push your agenda is just plain ignorant.
"Strongest hurricane on record" our hurricane database has been relevant since 1850. Who knows the magnitude of storms before this.

Having lived in a small island nation I have first hand experience of climate change and its effects. We used to have major flooding every 10-20 years decades ago but since 2013 we have them every year. Temperature has extreme variations and high rate of mosquito born deceases follows that same trend. These deniers should be sent to these island nations to get first hand experience of climate change.
Trevor, I love you. But, hurricane Irma isn't the strongest atlantic hurricane ever recorded, that's hurricane Patricia. Irma is definitely up there, in the top 5, for strongest/lowest central pressure/and duration as a category 5 storm. But, it's not the strongest on record, that was not correct. Still correct about the climate change correlation though.

Its not just climate change people... for decades states have been building miles of urban sprawl resulting in paved over wetlands. Odds are, if you are Amerian, you live in a suburb and anywhere you take a drive the chances of you driving past wetlands or unpaved land is low. Everything is paved over. Instead of building multi-story parking garages people build paved parking lots that take up a lot of space and prevent water from sinking into the ground. So when shit floods, dont just say it was a lot of water. It is worse because of the fact the land is paved over.
