The 2017 remake of "Beauty and the Beast", was not about improving the story, it was about setting up key explorations for the origin stories of Belle, Beast and Gaston that has set off the main story from the start of the Beast's Curse; plus it was a good key notable that the bow and arrow thing in the animated feature was a movie mistake, because this Live action film makes it clear that the Disney versions of the story was supposed to take place in a time period where the use for such simple ranged weapons would be outdated to firearms.
At first, I was surprised the Maleficent movie wasn't up here, but thinking of this, I would agree that it also appears more "origin story" than remake. I'd love to see more villain origin stories, tbh. Though if it's one of these more realistic movies, that could kill the style of characters like Scar, Dr. Facilier, and Jafar - all of whom have distinct animations and designs.
@@OverbossZero Maleficent eing called a remake annoys me. Because it's not a remake beyond taking a few scenes from the cartoon. There's barely any actual remade parts. It's mostly original and reads as a fanfiction, nor does it take place in the same universe. Yes, I was waiting for that one too. I think they purposely left it out because it doesn´t fit either group. Where is the Maleficent love? It was SO GOOD. The story subversions were clever and added some much needed depth like Cinderella did, and Angelina Jolie killed it in the title role. That one worked for sure.
*Cinderella is definitely the best, and maybe the only good Disney live action. Disney needs to not do this anymore. It’s killed more legacies than actually making it work. It’s unnecessary.*
It's quite fascinating how Cinderella is probably the only Disney property that the legacy hasn't been killed. Yes, there were some weakest ones but it didn't put them in a bad reputation as a whole. Especially when it comes to the live action remake which came out in the exact correct time when Disney was atleast trying to do something with remake rather than just cashing in with a soulless quality
Cinderella and Cruella definitely worked. I disagree with you about Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo, I loved those two. I would also say that Little Mermaid worked. One remake that didn’t work was The Lion King, because there are no humans in that movie, so it was basically more of a CGI remake. If you’d ask me, the Disney animated movies that don’t need live-action adaptations are the ones that don’t feature any humans.
I agree with you about The Little Mermaid...I think it was great how they furthered Ariel and Eric's relationship...I can't tell you how giddy I was when I found out they were doing a live-action of this movie...Ariel has been my fave princess since I was a kid...I am 36 going on 37 and The Little Mermaid will always and forever hold a special place in my heart.
_The Little Mermaid_ DIDN'T work. They ruined Eric and turned Ariel into a murdered. Killing another sea creature. WHAT THE FUCK were they thinking when they changed who Ursula's killer is.
I don't think The Little Mermaid worked that much. In the original, Eric saved Triton, Ariel, and everyone from Ursula at the end of the movie. That made Triton realize that not all humans are bad and that Eric is good enough to protect her. In the remake, Ariel did it. Letting her go made absolutely no sense!🤦♀️
None of the remakes ruined the legacy of the original movies. You can always go back to the original movies and enjoy them whenever you want to. The remakes take nothing away from the original movies.
When I heard about a Chip & Dale movie being made in the context of Roger Rabbit, I was seriously worried that it would be bad. But I was so relieved to be wrong after watching it. That film hit all the right marks and made it overall entertaining.
Cinderella is the best remake in my opinion. It has the charm that the original had and somenthing else. Cate Blanchett did a phenomenal performance and Lily James and Richard Madden look so good together. And even if it wasn't even worthy of being mentioned, I loved the Aladdin remake. Obviously the voice acting performance that Robin Williams did is one of the best in animated history and nobody was gona be as good as he was, but I really liked the movie, Naomi Scott was great as Princess Jasmine
Surprised that the 1999 101 Dalamatians Live Adapation wasn't mentioned on this list nor in the Cruella De vil Entry. As it is pretty good in my opinion and gives the original story a bit of a modern update to the classic story.
I honestly don’t think Disney should remake any of their projects. I think if they’re going to do a live action adaptation of a previously animated movie, they should at least tell a story that hasn’t already been told. Movies like Maleficent & the sequel, Christopher Robin, Cruella, Dumbo, and Alice In Wonderland all are stories that have been presented in a way that doesn’t seem like a copy of the previous versions. All the others are just a waste of time
I'd definitely love to see more villain origins, tbh. Though idk if these live action/CGI models would do them justice. Like, I know The Lion Guard gave a somewhat story behind Scar's name, but eh...I feel like it's probably a lot darker than that and it just came up with "snake on face" to be more kid friendly. Or they just slapped it in to give some form of origin. The show was actually good, though, and not just tailored to little kids like one may think; It had potty humor, but it also had a few dark moments, and even one episode gives a warning prior that it contains aspects of "accomplishing the circle of life" (aka: death) and I liked the wording for that and how they handled it.
I agree with all your picks except Beauty and the Beast. I really liked it! Also liked: Alladin, Alice’s both movies, both Maleficent, 101 and 102 Dalmatian (Genn Close at her best). On the other hand The Little Marmaid terrible casting, Mulan a disgrace! Lady and the Tramp a tragedy
I personally think that the only good thing that came out of the lion King remake was the “I just can’t wait to be King” song. That I liked, but everything else not so much.
Facts! Out of all the Disney remakes the internet has booed at (side eyes to Pinocchio and Little Mermaid), Mulan's the one that *ACTUALLY* deserves it
‘Cruella’ was more of an origin story, but it’s great and Emma Stone is clearly enjoying herself. ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Pete’s Dragon’ also worked on every level. Who doesn’t love to watch a dragon howl like a wolf?
Honestly, this might be an unpopular opinion, but I ADORED the Aladdin remake! I think will smiths charm brought it to life as the genie and I loved how Jasmine got her gorgeous im powering solo. The acting and casting was top tier and I like the beginning a lot! It’s a very good movie and it focuses on jasmine’s independence a lot more than the original. ❤
I have mixed feelings about it, I loved that Jasmine got her own I want song and they fleshed out some bits. Jafar is too hot tho 😂 But the big elephant in the room. Robin Williams. He is synonymous with the Genie, while Will Smith was great as the Genie, bringing his spin on the character; (Which is the only way to do it, otherwise it would always be a mediocre impression of Robin William's Genie.) I don't understand the choice in making him preform 'Never had a friend like me' the exact same as Robin Williams (it's never going to be as good) especially as Will Smith did his own version, used in the credits. This version should have been in the movie 🤷♀️ It's just a weird choice, when its our first introduction to the character, one they are pushing as different to the original, they have let Will Smith do his shtick the whole movie, but this song they do EXACTLY like Robins. Was just odd choice. I really liked Will's (credits) version and would have been a great introduction to HIS Genie 🤷♀️

I don't care what nobody says. I enjoyed ALL of the live action Disney remakes. I even got them on DVD. Enough said. And I love the photo realistic The Lion King. Enough said.
As long as you guys didn't mention The Little Mermaid remake, I'm okay. Besides, the "positive reviews" were fake. While not as bad as the trainwrecks (Pinocchio, Mulan, Lion King, Dumbo, ect), it's still not good. Although the romance is more genuine and realistic and Prince Eric is more developed, it still suffers from bad CGI effects, bloated pacing that drags, unnecessary new songs, and changes to the story that either hurt the narrative, or came off as pointless and unnecessary.
I’d like to dispute Beauty And The Beast. I loved how Gaston’s backstory was better developed and also how you learn about what happened to Belle’s mother. Emma Watson’s ACTING was fantastic as Belle but I hated how her singing was auto tuned.
There was no proof and evidences that Emma Watson's singing performances was autotuned, and that autotune facts there was all a complete lies, total fake news, phony & made-up stories, as well as complete misinformation and disinformation; all of it.
I would include Maleficent and its sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil in this list as ones that worked, as it gave an interesting twist on the original Sleeping Beauty, as well as giving us insight into the motivations of one of Disney's most iconic villains. I've watched the 1st one nearly 5 times already, since Angelina Jolie portrays such a brilliant Maleficent in them!
Maleficent was pretty good ❤ so much they even made a second movie. I loved it when it came out and it was first on the trend of redeeming a bad guy, before Cruella
I vote Aladdin that Worked because it's my Disney Movie starting w/ the Animated Classic that came out in my birth month November and birth year 1992. This is my opinion
My ranking Good: Cruella Alice in Wonderland The Jungle Book Pete’s Dragon Neutral: Maleficent Alice through the looking glass 101 Dalmatians Bad: Dumbo Peter Pan and Wendy The little Mermaid Pinocchio
It got canceled, Iger doesn't like the original. A shame the adaption was gonna be like the live musical which is closer to the book (the new songs Menken made are stunning)
The only live-action Disney adaptations I ever really liked are "The Jungle Book" and "Christopher Robin". I wish Julie Taymor directed the 2019 movie remake of "The Lion King" and have all the songs from both the original animated film and the Broadway musical. I would've loved Beyonce to have sung "Shadowland". And fix up other problems like the CGI facial expressions. Then it would have been just as of a masterpiece like the animated movie and the Broadway musical!
Cinderella and the 2 from the 90s (101 Dalmatians and The Jungle Book) were the only good ones. I remember liking the Pete’s Dragon remake, though I don’t know if that would count as a live-action remake since half the original is live.
I would say the Aladdin remake worked really well. Granted, they committed to the sin of copying and pasting the female lead and adding token feminist traits that don't add to their character, but the movie overall added more to the world building that made it feel fun to watch
Very very great epic list I like it a lot very very great job mis mojo and i like all the Disney live action movies a lot they are some of the very best movies ever 😊❤
Disagree on Beauty & the Beast and Pete’s Dragon. B&TB did marvelous work with their characters more in-depth, making Belle both an inventor & a more assertive feminist, & added music & pacing that built great chemistry between Belle & Beast. As for Pete’s Dragon, sorry not sorry to say that this live-action version doesn’t work for me. I get their intentions, but it doesn’t spark the same excitement & heartwarming story from the OG movie. 🤪
Cinderella is the best disney live action. Everything about this movie is PERFECT: the cast, the costumes , the story, the messages. It's practically perfect 😍😍😍😍I watch it any time it's on tv. And I tell this as someone who doesn't like disney remakes at all
For me it's with Beauty and the beast and Aladdin live actions that I loved I didn't care for The Jungle book live action I respect your opinion though I feel that's how things should be I always try to really respect everyone no matter what we are all people living beings after all have feelings and opinions.
I kind of asked for a live action Pinocchio because I wanted to see how the puppet could come to life. however! the little mermaid did surprisingly well for live action.
@supermariomellish Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast are okay on my end. I didn't see every single one of them but the least I still wanna check out Cruella and Pete's Dragon that folks said were great.
@@AshParth560 those were alright in my opinion. I will say I was pretty excited for pinocchio even though that one didn’t get a lot of praise. I still wish that robert zemeckis would’ve had pinocchio turn into the actor who portrayed him as the real boy of pinocchio and have his nose become a actual tree branch
MsMojo---You will pardon me if I respectfully disagree with you about the live-action "Beauty an the Beast" movie. I really enjoyed it. I think it's a nice balance between being true to the original movie while being it's own thing. It didn't kill anything. Except inspiring Disney to make a lot worse live-action remakes.
MsMojo had made a lot of lies, misinformation, and disinformation of referring the live-action Beauty and the Beast as "the movie that killed the legacy", for the whole truth is that the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast did not killed its legacy of the animated 1991 original. MsMojo have that fact entirely wrong, all of it.
I kinda wish that Bill Murry would stick to the the whole "Bare Necessities" number instead of repeating the two verses that weren't supposed to be repeated, I like the rock jive flavor he added but I wish he at least went with the entire song and not just repeating the two verses that has the words, honey and bees and Ants.
Forgot to mention the Maleficent movies, especifically the first one!! And what about the Lady and the Tramp remake?? Do you think it worked or sucked??
Way to hop on the hate on Beauty and the beast band wagon. We loved the original, and the live action was beautifully filmed. We all have opinions though.
This "hate band wagon on the live-action Beauty and the Beast" are built on a web of lies, misinformation, and disinformation, and what MsMojo have done is misleading the public with this video are all based on these lies. And clearly, MsMojo and UA-cam should be sued for libel, misinformation, disinformation, and defamation.
I honestly thought I heard a TON of praise for Beauty and the Beast, tbh...Or maybe most of the comments were about a gay man in a scene. Idk...Maybe it was Cinderella. xD I'm not interested in either one (not fond of most romantic fairy tale trope stories) so I don't know. Personally, I feel like Mulan should've been up in the "killed" list...They totally removed everything about the animated movie that made it great; The fun songs, MUSHU!!!...And Mulan was just a "perfect hero" stereotype that didn't really have to work to get where she was - she was already in the know of everything. Even the villain was less memorable, and I can't even recall if it was Shan Yu or if they changed that up too! I was so bored I didn't even really bother with much of it. :/
I had hopes when they announced Mulan. I was like yes, finally they bring Mulan, Mushu, Li Shang and the rest to live but it was so horrible. When growing Mulan was one of my fave Disney films and it literally broke my heart when it came. Disney can't make 90's films without ruining them
I think Ella Enchanted is a very underrated adaptation of Cinderella. I also think that the Aladdin remake was not good, and should have been honorable mention!
I'd say Mulan killed even more than the Lion King remake...I couldn't even bother watching most of it after it started; The lack of Mushu already ended it for me, and then there weren't any songs from the movie - I think I could only hear faint music playing "I'll Make a Man Out of You" during one scene, but that was it. I liked the movie for the animation, the silliness, and the songs; Live action lacked all of it, imo.

Honestly Cinderella is boring as f*ck
It's not the only. Both Maleficent movies were good and I enjoyed Cruela
You're right. Animation has improved over time. They should do just that
You wrote 101 Real Dalmatians wrong
Cinderella definitely my favourite, no question Bout it
Aladdin: AM I A JOKE TO YOU?
I took my little cousins to see "Cruella" and was NOT disappointed 😊.
Killed?
unpopular opinon but i love both the animated and live action version of Beauty and the beast. Cinderleaa and cruella live actions ate tho!!
Forgot Alice in Wonderland. That movie was top tier.
Agreed
Through the LookingGlass was one of the few Disney sequels that was even better than the original, is my opinion. 😊
@@kentslocum That’s fair.
None of the remakes ruined the legacy of the original movies. You can always go back to the original movies and enjoy them whenever you want to. The remakes take nothing away from the original movies.
THANK U 🙏
💯
Thank you! The best comment on this video! Amen!
wrong, they sure the hell did kill the legacy of the original movies.
@@metalbutterflygaming1544 I feel sorry they ruined the originals for you.
When I heard about a Chip & Dale movie being made in the context of Roger Rabbit, I was seriously worried that it would be bad. But I was so relieved to be wrong after watching it. That film hit all the right marks and made it overall entertaining.
So what are your thoughts on Aladdin, the Little Mermaid, Lady and the Tramp, 101 Dalmatians, Mulan … ?
Cinderella is the best remake in my opinion. It has the charm that the original had and somenthing else. Cate Blanchett did a phenomenal performance and Lily James and Richard Madden look so good together. And even if it wasn't even worthy of being mentioned, I loved the Aladdin remake. Obviously the voice acting performance that Robin Williams did is one of the best in animated history and nobody was gona be as good as he was, but I really liked the movie, Naomi Scott was great as Princess Jasmine
I like cinderella and beauty and the beast both were good
The live action remake of Cinderella is aesthetically pleasing ✨️
Aesthetically pleasing and *believable* Not a fantasy world stereotype or a parody. The movie is a visual masterpiece.
I still love the Aladdin Remake and it’s still great for me personally even to this day!
I agree with all your picks except Beauty and the Beast. I really liked it!
Also liked:
Alladin, Alice’s both movies, both Maleficent, 101 and 102 Dalmatian (Genn Close at her best).
On the other hand The Little Marmaid terrible casting, Mulan a disgrace! Lady and the Tramp a tragedy
Same. BATB was solid
My only thing with BATB was I think Hugh Jackman would have been a better Gaston, but Luke Evans was still decent.
They forgot The Little Mermaid 2023.
Yeah but it’s five for five
It worked for me
That one killed it for me
@@lonellfletcher The live-action Little Mermaid did not worked at all.

They said for them, not everyone.
My favorite one is Cruella! My worst one is Pinocchio!
I told Disney to let those kids go back to normal, but did they read my comments! 😒😒
I personally think that the only good thing that came out of the lion King remake was the “I just can’t wait to be King” song. That I liked, but everything else not so much.
I actually like both versions of Beauty and the Beast equally. Say what you want about the live-action.
No judgement there.
Funny I love any variation of Beauty and the Beast despite some having flaws.
(Guilty pleasure, it be. 😏)
I'd rather the 2014 French-German production
@@盧璘壽로인수 The 2014 French-German foreign language version of Beauty and the Beast is a poor version.
It's becoming appareent that somebody at Watch Mojo has it in for that movie. They trashed it before and their reasoning doesn't hold water.
The remake of Mulan was a TERRIBLE one
Facts! Out of all the Disney remakes the internet has booed at (side eyes to Pinocchio and Little Mermaid), Mulan's the one that *ACTUALLY* deserves it
I'M SURPRISED I DIDN'T HEAR ALADDIN, THE LITTLE MERMAID, MULAN AND ALICE IN WONDERLAND ON HERE
Some remakes work like Cinderella some remakes blow like Pinocchio some remakes are in between like the little mermaid
In between?
@@dylansharp8471 means it had good bits and bad bits whereas Cinderella was all good

I personally enjoyed The Little Mermaid. Visual and music wise it was great and it gave both Ariel and Eric a bit more depth than the original did
If I had a penny for every original idea Disney has had since 2019, then I would have 25 cents.
That's a lot in 5 years
Cruella nailed it so much I really love re-watch again and again and perfect option for me a
‘Cruella’ was more of an origin story, but it’s great and Emma Stone is clearly enjoying herself.
Jafar is too hot tho 😂
But the big elephant in the room.
Tanya is definitely understandable and agreeable 🫱🏽🫲🏻

Same here. I like how it has real live animals that don't talk. That and Jasper (1 of the hence men) is played by Hugh Laurie.
I love those movies and Glen Close performance as Cruella is my favourite 😄❤️❤️
As long as you guys didn't mention The Little Mermaid remake, I'm okay. Besides, the "positive reviews" were fake. While not as bad as the trainwrecks (Pinocchio, Mulan, Lion King, Dumbo, ect), it's still not good. Although the romance is more genuine and realistic and Prince Eric is more developed, it still suffers from bad CGI effects, bloated pacing that drags, unnecessary new songs, and changes to the story that either hurt the narrative, or came off as pointless and unnecessary.
Visual and music wise, it was definitely great. I quite enjoyed it
Cinderella, Pete’s Dragon and The Jungle Book absolutely WORKED. I may have to give Cruella a shot after this video.
chip and Dale has a roger rabbit feel alright, while it features cameos you don't expect from a Disney picture
ALADDIN is my favorite live-action Disney remake.

Beauty and the beast live action was our wedding theme! I love it very dearly and nobody can change my mind about it.
Acutually I would say Beauty and the Beast is one of the best remakes to me...
I’d like to dispute Beauty And The Beast. I loved how Gaston’s backstory was better developed and also how you learn about what happened to Belle’s mother.
Emma Watson’s ACTING was fantastic as Belle but I hated how her singing was auto tuned.

I love Cinderella. I think it worked so well because they leaned into the full fairy tale of it. Bright, colorful, and magical
The only thing I agree with on this list is The Jungle Book being considered Worked and that Pinocchio failed!
You’re saying beauty and the beast worked? 😂😂😂
@@SomeSadRocks Yes! It gave us the story of Belle's mom and the Beast's solo song that we needed!
The Jungle Book live action remake and the Live Action Remake of Cinderella really did indeed work and changed things for the better.
Hardcore disagree with Beauty and the Beast. The live action is so much better and improves upon the story. It’s not flawless, but it’s great!
What bout Aladdin though? I enjoyed the live action
God, just watched the jungle book and i wasnt even here for the animation version and it was magical! How could i not meet it back then in 2016??
Why do we need more off all theese disney live action remakes

Live-action Disney remakes are a dime a dozen waste of time, money and talent. It's like Disney hates animation almost as much as the Oscars do.
I think The Jungle Book is Disney’s best live-action movie

'Cinderella' definitely worked. One film that wasn't mentioned here is 'Mulan. That movie' left me asking, "Why?"
I'll give Jungle Book a thumbs up just for changing the original's "Mowgli gets girly-whipped" ending.
Cinderella and 101 Dalmatians worked. The rest, yuck. (With special places in hell for Maleficent abd 2017 Beauty and the Beast.)
I immediately fell in love with live-action Cinderella. Lily James looks like an angel, who rightfully deserves her own prince Red Ranger, namely me.
I liked the little mermaid but I wish they would’ve let Eric save Ariel like in the cartoon version
Don't forget to include the Mulan remake as one of those remakes that "Kills the Legacy."
The 1998 movie is better than
Well although its hated so much I was impressed by the giant battle fiel scenes which can hold up to Lord of the Rings.
So the lady who speaks in this video liked some live action remakes for some factors and others remakes she didn t for factors
