The recording engineers did a fine job here. I can hear much of the nuances of the pedal tones come through, the recording captures their thunder and majesty. Very satisfying, it is as if I'm there.
What awesome an awesome this organ can produce .I was listening to this on my cellphone with my BOSE EARBUDS I could hear the rumbling sound of building shaking from the Wanamaker organ. Awesome sound
I love Swinnin's Aria, especially between 7:00 - 8:07, which if I were playing a wedding, I would start there to announce the arrival of the bride and her father in the back of the church just before they commence their walk down the aisle because it is so delightful.
Thank you Peter and all the tech team who are putting these together. Very fond memories of my visit, and continue to enjoy building my own "Wanamaker" imitation in my home.
Many thanks to all involved in producing these videos. These are technically flawless. I love the split screens and overlays. The playing is the best, and we have an archive of the organ we can enjoy over and over.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. If you enjoy these enough to be motivated, a donation link is above. The Friends of the Wanamaker Organ is a non-profit that uses donations like yours to make these videos possible. It's not easy or cheap, but we really think it's worthwhile!
Just watched a documentary on the World's Greatest Fair (1904 Louisana Purchase Exposition) and the mention of where the exposition organ ended up inspired me to search for a recent recording of it and I am happy to have found this channel! This concert really helps emphasize why the organ was so popular in the early 1900's, and still is today with some.
Dell, really glad you found our videos! Be sure to subscribe. We don't post videos very often (this month is an exception), but we will be posting more in the future. Thanks again for watching!
@@thewanamakerorgan 5 videos in 5 years. I'm very glad you have decided to fix that. Due to changes in church music especially, the pipe organ is dying a slow death by unfamiliarity in many parts of the world. It needs to gain as many new friends as possible, and this channel can help that happen.
@James Bowie - We hope to do more in the future, but we really depend on monetary gifts. I know it seems silly, but it takes a lot of time, money, and effort to put these videos together. We're hoping that someone sees these and offers to underwrite more!
Beautiful concert. The Gershwin medley is pure gold. I didn’t realize “Someone to Watch over me” was originally a Gershwin tune (song?) but the ethereal echoes sounded particularly striking with that segment, though that entire medley was just beautiful. Thank you for sharing some sampling of this magnificent instrument!
I have had the great privilege of helping to maintain two 37 rank theatre organs containing 9 ranks of strings. This organ has hundreds of ranks of strings. WOW!
Johnny - from a technical perspective, it's not too different, just scale of the whole thing! If you look at 18:32, it's a little dark to see, but the grey 'boxes' above the organ are actually the string division shades. The division is that complete width + (almost) the same depth as the rest of the organ core. We think it's the largest organ chamber (by ranks) of any organ..
Thanks! Yes, this organ is at Macy's Center City. And yes, they are recorded after hours. The conditions for recording are much, much better than during the day!
Overture to 'The Yeomen of the Guard' by Sir Arthur Sullivan, transcribed and played by Peter Richard Conte. This piece was also used for 13 years on "The Wanamaker Organ Hour" on WRTI as a theme song.

Wow, astrel projection Giga Chad of an instramnent.
Excellent concerts as always. Just curious, are these being recorded after retail hours at Macy's Center City?

@@thewanamakerorgan Thanks! Was wondering why the 'sounds of retail' weren't there like other recordings. Keep up the great work!
What is the name of song at the end (closing theme)?
