Would only be fitting for a minutes silence to be held during wales opening six nations match next year, for me he was the voice of the 6 nations.
For all the openers I say
Agreed
Cold, crisp February days will never be the same again. RIP Eddie you legend and top notch work as always, Andrew butt.
Such a loss, most of these games I watched when I was a young lad and he’s been the voice throughout it all, my condolences to his family
You and many many others mate, such sad news, so many iconic rugby moments are burned into my memory with his voice narrating. What a loss. RIP
Same, it will odd not having him there this autumn or next sox nations. Gutted he's gone
His voice along with Bill McLaren's was pure rugby union genius. He will be sadly missed. R.I.P Eddie.
Bill McLaren is the voice of my rugby youth, never forgotten and much missed.
Butler and Moore was such a good combo. Butler was so articulate, melodic, not overly animated but above all passionate about good rugby. Rip
Did you see what Moore said? ""I am devastated by this news. Ed, I'm sorry I never told you how much I admired you as a broadcaster and as a man. Well, it wasn't like that between us, was it. Condolences to Sue and your family. Sport has lost an iconic voice, I have lost a very dear friend.
Goodbye Edward." My heart.
Eddie Butler will always be the voice of the 6 nations for me. Such a sad loss. Moore's twitter has been an emotional place this past few days
I just cant tell you how much of a blow Eddie Butler's untimely death is. Huge blow to Rugby, to Wales and to all us fans.
Absolutely spine tingling at times, he always had the tone right, transferred the atmosphere into your home. Butler and Moore were like a double act! Eddie’s introductions/stories/poetry on Scrum V were sporting journalism at its finest ❤
That’s so sad - for me Eddie was the voice of rugby on par with Murray Walker & F1. Massive loss for all rugby fans. Thank you Eddie for being there - RIP. 😢
Fucking devastated we’ll never heard that sweet sweet voice partnered with Brian Moore ever again
As a irishman it was so sad to hear his passing such a distinctive voice . Made rugby exciting
Good of you to get a compilation together so quickly Andrew. A tragic loss to the rugby community.
The least I could do - as a Welshman his voice became synonymous with Six Nations rugby. It only felt right to make a video like this.
@@AndrewDavidForde good man
@@AndrewDavidForde as an Irishman I completely agree with you. Grew up with his voice. Sad loss
Well said boys
Whenever you knew Eddie was commentating it somehow made the occasion brighter, funnier and more enjoyable
I savoured his levity and brilliance ..irreplaceable
That commentary for Elliot Daly's try. Has to be my favourite. Butler was a passionate Welshman, but he called England's late winner there with such poise and theatre, befitting of the occasion. A truly devastating loss for rugby.
Rest in peace, Eddie. Play hard up there.
Gave you a like, but Foxy needed bitch slapping for that piss poor kick ;-)
He loves the game not the player, hence no bias whatsoever. Rest in peace, Eddie.
An excellent, worthy tribute that does Eddie Butler justice.
Was my favourite commentator. That deep Welsh rolling voice is synonymous with the Six Nations.
Truly irreplaceable as a commentator. From an England fan.
Butler was a genuine poet. Much like another recent death, he had that air of mystique about him, that even though you'd never met him and didn't know much about him, he felt like a personal friend.
Well worded, completely agree.
His voice is so familiar after years of Six Nations coverage. So much so that you absolutely take it for granted. I’m gutted he won’t be commentating on the next battle between 🏴 and 🏴
He was like the David Attenborough of the rugby world.
I’m going to miss him so much.
The Six Nations will not be the same without Eddie Butler's voice. RIP legend of the game.
THE voice of the Six Nations. And a superb player. I'm so, so sorry you've gone. Please rest in peace. You were great.
Much like with the late Bill McLaren, when Eddie got excited, that's when he really came into his own. Hugely knowledgeable and a real servant of the game. Not everyone's cup of tea, but you knew he loved his rugby. He'll be missed badly!
February will never be the same without his iconic commentary. He will be missed greatly....
Rugby really will not be the same without him. RIP Eddie, one of the many reasons why I fell in love with the game.
He was a player from another time, classy and highly intelligent. As a commentator I'll always remember his voice.
Brian Moore must be devastated. They were such an elite combo
I'm so glad someone has made a tribute to him. he will be missed dearly by rugby fans all over the world
I cried when I heard he passed away, was gutted and I still cannot believe he has gone. His voice made the six nations . So many great memories. Sending my love to his family HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN 🏴❤️🏴 🏉🍺
The velvet voice of rugby. As a recent convert to the game I have binge watched hundreds of games and the ones I enjoyed the most were those he commented. You knew you were in good hands. Irreplaceable. RIP
The tournament won't be the same without that voice guiding us. So passionate about the game and he shoved that passion through the screen to us all! Spectacular career and a legacy that won't be forgotten.
RIP Eddie. Never forgotten.
Six nations is gonna be so weird without him, RIP Eddie your a legend of the game
One of my favourite commentators growing up in South Africa. Always enjoyed his commentary especially when the Boks played against Wales on the EOYT. Till this day I wanna go watch a test at the Millennium Stadium! Huge loss to Welsh and world rugby. RIP Eddie 🙏🏾
So sad, fantastic commentary, great man. RIP from an Irishman.
Great loss to rugby.
RIP from a Saffer
Great work on the compilation Andrew, that last clip left me a bit misty in the eyes. RIP Eddie, there won't ever be another one like you.
Get the chills re listening to this . Literally brought the stadium atmosphere to your arm chair . RIP Eddie
Such sad news and a big loss to the rugby community. A much loved and respected gentleman. We here in Gwent have lost a very good man. I had the pleasure of meeting Eddie on a few occasions and he was a lovely guy. RIP Eddie and my condolences to those close to him
RIP Eddie. His voice and commentary have been iconic for rugby and so many other sports. Always on the mark and one of the few commentators to commit any Colemanballs. Definitely, I will miss the sound of his voice the next time I watch the Six Nations. Thank you Eddie.
Loss for us all. A Wales supporter I feel it particularly keenly he's been an indelible part of some of my happiest days.
Great tribute. Loved his voice. The voice of the Six Nations.
Awh Man…. So sad to hear this :( I’m Irish, and used to love his voice watching the 6N… always made it exciting and knew exactly what to say and when to say it.. and always impartial. So sad. Condolences to his family and friends.
An absolute legend, the voice of rugby. Won’t be the same without you. RIP
Such a loss, a real voice of rugby and Wales, my sadness at the thought of no longer hearing his eloquent commentaries seems selfish compared to what his poor family must be suffering at this moment. Love and Respect.
“Michael Owens arm goes up!”.....still the best. Great bloke.
Was quite shocked to hear about him. Will be missed by many. rip.
Will be sadly missed, a great voice, joins those other greats in the big commentary box in the sky, Bill Mclaren, Eddie Waring, Peter Alliss, Dan Maskell, and more!
I had no idea that Eddie has passed away until I stumbled across this. I live not far from him too. Such a shock and a huge loss not only to rugby but his friends, family and the local community.
I miss him already. Iconic.
Vielen Dank für diese beeindruckende Zusammenstellung. Wie werden wir Eddies Stimme vermissen. Ruhe in Frieden.
What a man! What a voice!
Really going to miss his voice ..
a sad day for rugby
May he RIP
RIP Eddie, always liked his banter with Brian Moore
One of the absolute best. RIP legend
Clicked "like" during the ads... wasn't going to be an option for Eddie!
The voice of rugby plus epic voiceovers on other events and not all sporting. Six nations will miss Eddie on bbc.
Damn I'm going to miss his voice....his commentary as Morgon scores that try to win the GS still sends shivers down the spine, an brings back memories of the day o the green in front of City Hall...then singing all the way back to Merthyr on the train
Thank you Andrew. Really appreciate you being able to put up this fine compilation as a tribute to Eddie Butler. Fine player, fantasic commentator and journalist, rest in peace Eddie.
RIP to a legend and ambassador of the game. Much love and respect from South Africa!
Thank you Eddie, the soundtrack to many 6N's . RIP
His voice was synonymous with those Saturday nights in the Six Nations. Brilliant man who will be sorely missed.
Watching rugby won't be the same again. There was always something about his voice that added to the atmosphere of every game he commented upon. You were somehow never closer to feeling like you were there experiencing the excitement stands than when Eddie Butler was calling the game. RIP to one of the greats.
For all the completely justified talk of his distinctive voice and terrific passion, the moment where he flags the atmosphere in the ground as being electric then stays silent for a good few seconds marks him out as a great commentator, for me. Knowing when to keep quiet and let the images and sound speak for themselves is a highly underrated skill.
brought passion to the game again, goosebumps with his commentary
The world of rugby has lost one of its greatest Motorsport had Murray Walker rugby has Eddie butler the rugby World Cup and the six nations will never be the same again his enthusiastic commentary Brings so much joy to many people he will be sadly missed RIP Eddie
The Voice of Welsh players. Supporters. Young and Old alike! So polite of his Friend and Colleague Brian Moore to write what he did. Such a loss at such a young age. Sincere condolences too his Lovely Family. " Er Serchus Gof Am Eddie Butler "
Watching the 6 nations just wont be the same without Eddie commentating. Listening to him pronounce the French players names was just magical. Il miss him.
Rest in peace, sir. You were one of the great commentators of this wonderful game we all love. Hearing your voice erupt in passion when we lost against your boys made it somewhat more bearable. (Only somewhat, it still stung!)
Condolyto his family and friends. U til we hear that deep booming voice again.
From South Africa 🇿🇦🏴
Great compilation Andy, I was there for the England/Ireland games in 05 and France in 08. What a voice, I'll miss his voice that's for sure. Brillaint tribute
Like Bill McLaren his voice was rugby, RIP Eddie you will be sorely missed
Thank you. A few tears. My age, 48,, he was always on the International Match program as E.T. Butler. Say no more. He will be missed badly by Pooler and Wales, and RUGBY!!!
Great word Andrew. I lovely tribute. Six Nations wont be the same again
Great tribute Fordey! RIP Eddie. A true rugby voice
Gone far, far too soon. RIP.
Great people learn from the best and find their own voice! Learning from the great Voice of rugby he took his own path and became the voice of his generation. His voice and thoughts will be missed. Bill and Eddie will sit and commentate from the stars this 6 nations and wouldn’t we all love to hear that poetry in motion. RIP x
I'm more choked up by this news than the Queens passing. R.I.P you absolute legend. Watching the 6 nations will not be the same, hearing your voice gave me goosebumps and gets the adrenaline pumping during the game. Thoughts are with the family.
Sitting at Druidstone Hotel where he loved to come. Missed sharing breakfast with him this morning - always a true gent and wonderful humble conversationalist. Much missed down here and in the rugby world.
Goosebumps watching this. Rugby will never be the same without him.
Jesus. I watched the video, have always liked Butler. Then I thought it was a lovely touch at the end of the video, to see him playing and scoring a try for Wales.
Then I saw Eddie Butler 1957 - 2022.
I can't believe it. What a loss for rugby. He had a sooting, reassuring voice. And I always felt he was impartial, as an Irish person anyway.
RIP Eddie, Godspeed.
Rest in Peace Mr Butler, teams ebb and flow, players played and retired, the game changed but you where always the voice, the game will not be the same without you. Thank you.
I don’t really know how I am going to cope watching international rugby from now on. Honestly one of the earliest voices I can recollect hearing as a child, iconic and forever to me the voice of sport
Rip Eddie. I will miss the commentary throughout the six nations.
Voice of the six nations. Great video and very touching adding him scoring a try at the end.
Tears and laughs from me watching this video. What a legend. RIP
RIP Eddie Thank you for your great commentary, insights, humour and love of Rugby, the 6 Nations will not be the same without you
Great upload.... EDDIE was the definitive voice of rugby... He conveyed evey emotion of the game... Missed but definitely never forgotten.. Rest in peace sir...
Rest in peace Eddie being the main commentator on bbc throughout a vest amount of years growing up watching six nations Eddie was a massive influence throughout everything making so many memories six nations won’t be the same anymore without eddie😢
RIP Eddie Butler. He always seemed to find the right words for the right occasion at the right time, his timing was so uncanny. Little wonder that to my ears he was essentially the Poet Laureate of BBC Sport. And the double act with Brian Moore goes without saying.
Really nice touch with the tribute, especially with the final clip - he walked the walk, and he talked the talk.
I'm going to miss him.
Andrew Forde that was so well put together and rounded off with a clip of Eddie playing too. Superb.
Gutting. He knew my mum and dad and I had a good chat with him after my dad passed away a few years ago. Lovely bloke, will be sorely missed.
The speed to get this together really is amazing. Some fantastic moments. Special shout out to the Ireland v ABs in 2013. As an Englishman I love the England v Wales 2017, along with a number of Wallabies v Oz games like 2012...
RIP Eddie, will miss your commentary, great montage of some of eddies commentary
My favourite Eddie commentary moment is when Farrell slotted a kick and he said ‘that man is a superb striker of a rugby ball’
Well done Andrew. Brilliant compilation, even by your high standards, and to get it done so fast is incredible. Nice touch with the try at the end (amazing pass from the winger by the way! 🤩)
Butler was a brilliant commentator in his own right, but I particularly loved his double-act with Brian Moore. One of my favourites was England v Italy - Toby Flood kicked for the hundredth time and Moore lost it, shouting and presumably swearing as his next words were cut off by the producer! Eddie was absolutely pissing himself laughing and did well to hold it together to carry on talking normally.
The one piece of Butler commentary that always sticks in my memory is George North running through three defenders to score in the corner (I think v England). Butler growling “the POWER OF NOOOORTH!!”
Anyway, wonderful tribute mate. 👏
This man should never be allowed to retire👌🙌❤
Damn this is so tragic. May your soul RIP old man. You won't be forgotten.
I'm just glad I got to hear both Eddie and Bill McLaren commentate on our wonderful game.
A poet. RIP Eddie.
Can't believe he's gone. As integral a cop to the Six Nations set-up as the rugby itself. RIP.
Loved eddies voice for all these games, but always especially loved the romance he put on his pronunciation of the French players!
The voice of a generation of rugby fans,so sad…………..Great tribute montage
He was as big a giant to the commentary of Rugby Union as was the great Eddie Waring to Rugby League, RIP
Rest In Peace, Eddie ❤
