Wow you are going to be one busy boy next year. That is a fantastic selection of books and I really look forward to hearing your thought on them (especially the Chandlers as they are also on my list for next year). Great video as always. Thank you (and good luck).
Now I have to read L.A. Confidential haha. Glad you found some new indie authors this year, Mists and Megaliths and Nocturne are both excellent. Sinister Mix is great but it's definitely extreme horror and very dark. Looking forward to hearing how your 2022 goes!
Thanks! That amount sounds pretty reasonable and realistic. These books are such a time and emotional investment that I'm still worried I'll be reading too many
Good luck with your reads! I usually make myself a more ambitious tbr even though I know I'm at about 60 or so a year as well. I tried so hard to get through WoT, but finally threw in the towel at the end of book 5. If you like the slower classic fantasy like Tolkien and Tad Williams, then you'll be just fine, but I needed more concise writing, deeper characters, and faster plot progression. I absolutely love everything Abercrombie though. I wasn't sold on the first book, so if you're not sure, keep reading because he gets so good! I liked Kings of the Wyld but haven't read on yet. I'm not usually a fan when the sequels follow different characters. Red Rising is a lot of fun - it's more accessible than most scifi with simpler themes to start out with, so I think that's why people say it feels YA. I would more say it's a good transition novel from YA scifi to adult.
Thank you! I can definitely see what you mean about the wheel of time. As a huge tolkien fan though, that stuff hasn’t been too bad for me. And that’s great to hear about Abercrombie and red rising! I’m really hoping that I like those books.
@@BetweentheLinesJulian That's good. I've been meaning to give LoTR another go. Blasphemous as it is, the extended movies are my all-time favs, but I couldn't get into the books. Perhaps enough time has passed for another go. Looking forward to your journey with both those other series.
This is awesome Julian! I may get back to Wheel of Time next year, but I’m staying flexible on it. First Law is amazing, and I hope you enjoy it. I’m hoping to read Kings of the Wyld next year. I eventually want to read the Robot series too. I’m excited for you to read more Poirot. I’ve been wanting to read Raymond Chandler, but never have. I’ve also been wanting to read Arthur C Clarke. I saw Stranger in a Strange Land in your pile, and I thought that was good. It’s very different lol. I definitely want to read Eyes of the Dragon. I actually DNFd Neuromancer, so not sure if I will ever read anything else by him lol. If you’d like some fantasy short story collections, you should check out the Unfettered collections edited by Shawn Speakman. I’m also hoping to read the Dune series this year, but I agree it’s a daunting task. I’m excited to see where 2022 goes for you.
Thanks! I'm very eager to start the first law but want to wait until I'm more settled into the wheel of time. Heard nothing but great things about it. I can definitely see why Neuromancer isn't for everyone, there were definitely some parts in that book I struggled with but was totally captivated by the world. And thanks for the recommendation! I'm very interested to read more fantasy short story collections as I've only read the witcher ones.
I just finished the Red Rising trilogy myself! Definitely agree with the sentiment of your family that it isn't YA and sets itself apart from Hunger Games nicely. Personally, I was not a big fan of the original trilogy, but Iron Gold was quite excellent and I am loving Dark Age (about halfway through at the moment)! Solid list, I can't wait to hear your thoughts on several of these :)
Nice list. Black Dahlia is great, but it’s not a standalone. All of Ellroy’s books have connections. The LA quartet are all amazing. I especially like White Jazz. Try to find some of Leonard’s earlier, Detroit based books. Something like Unknown Man #59. His westerns are really good too. Really hard to go wrong with Leonard.
Thank you for the advice and recommendations! I didn’t know the Ellroy books were connected, I’m curious to see what links The Black Dahlia has with LA Confidential.
Red Rising is definitely not YA. It's brutal even in the first book. To me if you really want to know someone's character look at them in high school. That is effectively Red Rising point in really getting to know the characters. The next to go much bigger. Morning Star is currently my favorite book. I'm in my late 30s.

Very busy indeed! I'll definitely be talking about the Chandler books. Thanks for the good luck! I'll need it to meet these reading goals.

LA Confidential is worth the read! Even if you’ve already seen the movie. Can’t wait to get into more indie books in 2022.
great video! I am also going to continue with the wheel of time! I think for me it's more realistic to try to read books 2-6

Great list! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on these.
Thanks! I really think it's going to be a great reading year.
Love Poriot stories! He one of my favorite fictional detectives. I would love to hear your thoughts on the King books. Nice 2022 list! Happy reading!
He's really starting to become my favorite as well! I'll definitely be talking the King books as I get to them. Happy holidays!

Audiobooks help. I listen in the shower. That 10 mins over the course of the year adds up especially with driving time.
Definitely! I started getting into audiobooks this year with the dresden files and it's helped a ton
@@BetweentheLinesJulian Haha. I'm listening to Turn Coat right now.
@@carlosandino5524 No way! Turn Coat was great, I hope you enjoy it
@@BetweentheLinesJulian So far so great. I'm nearly finished. Should be able to finish today. Stayed up last night listening to it.

Sounds like a good list to me
Thanks!
