Topwater Roosterfish From Shore

- PLEASE READ! I was told there were Mahi Mahi (Dorado) jumping near shore, so I used a topwater lure to target them, but ended up hooking a surprise Roosterfish instead! My plan was to release the fish, but as the release was unsuccessful, we ended up grilling it instead. Hopefully, from this video, other fishermen can learn the correct (and incorrect) way to hold these fish in order to maximize safe releases

It's a bad habit to talk about the fish while it's dying in your hands. I like your content. Good work, my dude. Just get the fish back in the water and THEN talk about them, please.
super cool of you to educate people about the way to handle the fish, even though you're speaking in hindsight. we can tell you really care about the fish. keep it up :)))
Boom, we were on. Great video keep it up my man.
Nice fish! I saw you on the beach with it. Hope it was good eating!
Thanks! It was delicious! Grilled 👌
Nice fish never even heard of one until I watched this.
Yeah its not common in the US, only place is occasionally san diego i would assume
Nice vid, hope u can get some of those Mahi Mahi. Easily one of the best tasting fish when eaten fresh
Thanks! Hope to get some too, been seeing a few jump but they are well out of casting distance
Super cool! Nicwe job Ilan!
Gracias! More coming!
that was my dad he keeps on commenting from my account smh
good video, weird but i was always told touching the gills would injure fish and they get oxygen when water flows into there mouth and out of there gills and not visa versa
You are right - that's what I meant by "getting water through it's gills", sorry if unclear. For a lot of species (smaller species), holding by the gills is fine as long as you measure your strength, but I believe as fish get better, it harms them more, so for big fish you really want to grab the underside and tail
Damn bro you killing it over there ! Nice fish
Thanks! Much much more and bigger fish are coming ;)
Wow. That is a beautiful fish and you said those fish gets a lot bigger! Can you imagine the fight they'll get you? Possibly bend all your hooks
Yeah, in May - August, the roosters around here are hitting around 60 lbs! Thankfully the lures we use out here have some really strong hooks, but if you were to use a swivel it would bend it out in a second
Were are you at fishing ? In frount on what beach ?
No idea about this fish but it looks big
Bigger fish are coming 😉
Are you in frount of playa grande ?
Yep!
fucking epic vid, good shit yo
How did it taste?
Really good actually! Some people don't like it because it's a dark meat, but grilled it was delicious
Do you need a Mexican fishing license to fish the shore in Mexico?
Nope! Just a rod and reel or handline 😁
