Comparing the looks doesn't make sense, it all comes down to personal preference. I personally think the Focus facelift is one of the best looking hatchbacks on the market. The classy daylight LED at the front is so beautifully done. And it's a damn good car to drive. So yes, it's the Focus for me!
Mazda3 is ofcourse the best looking and premium quality car in its class. It doesn't feel like a regular compact car like focus, civic and Corolla do. This car has a sporty drive and has perfect balance of everything. Go to gt model and things even get better. Infotainment system is one of best systems and I personally love the screen on the dashboard and it doesn't block your vision.
We have the Mazda3 i-touring and I have zero complaints. Yes the road noise is a bit much, but we have noticed that after putting some miles on it the noise has diminished some. It's a very pretty car as well. I do like their new styling language a lot.
LJ Ford prob owned Mazda and used their engines in Mazda products when you owned yours. If you owned a Mazda from the 90s to 2010, it likely used ford parts to a degree, that's why they were prob good.
155hp is a lot in Europe. Don't know about your speed limits, but "155hp is a bit reluctant" sounds a bit "I'm used to muscle cars". It's more than enough for a small hatch.
***** The large, straight highways and interstates coupled with the massive amount of much larger, more powerful vehicles is why it's considered more under-powered. They're spunky enough for darting around town, but for longer trips, the extra power is pretty much a necessity... for safety if anything. - coming from a former focus owner. 155hp isn't great when you have to accelerate from a stop light on a steep grade that is also a high-speed highway.
I'm not talking about remaining at speed or even top speed... I'm talking about being able stay with traffic which will slow down and speed up quite frequently... quite often on steep hills and mountains. Also... yes, trucks... and SUVs and rigs. Many of them are driven by people that think it a good idea to use all of the 350 lb ft of torque under their hoods. Getting onto crowded highways and interstates can be a very daunting task with drivers like that. It's also the american way... the bigger the faster the better. It's more of the thought of the old, large american cars against the old, much smaller euro cars. Roads are/were much narrower and curvier over there compared to our wide, straight roads. Euro cars were built for the roads. American roads were built for our cars.
Ben Strong "Euro cars were built for the roads. American roads were built for our cars." ... I agree with you almost fully except that some euro cars are a little underpowered for the highly hilly and curvy highways in Europe... I would expect a car in fifth gear on the cruise control at 135 km/h (84mph) to not go below 120km/h but several of them tend to go down to 90 km/h( 56mph) while my little Pontiac G5 doesn't even drop 1 km/h while on the cruise, on the highway at around 120 km/h - 125km/h (Canada).. The smart fortwo that we have here has a better motor than a lot of sub compact and compact cars in Europe...
Yeah. I don't doubt it. I was referring more to the city streets that have been in place for centuries that were not built for several lanes of (horse-less carragiage) traffic and parking. Yeah... when I still had my 2000 focus, it couldn't keep cruse going up any kind of incline. That's one highlight of my 03 acura tl type s. Won't nothing stop it. It boogies down the road nicely at 70mph (113 km/h) while maintaining about 28-30 mpg... which is good for down here for a vtec with 248000 miles (399117 km).
driven both focus and mazda, I found that they target totally different customers. focus is a more fun to drive car while mazda gives u a more luxurious thanks to its audi-ish design. focus has a more balance chassis, torque vectoring. but the ride at lower speed is quite harsh, and gosh that MFT is slow. the 3 have a better transmission and infotainment system, but window switches and light switches feel rather cheap.
I would buy neither. The 2015 Hyundai Elantra/Elantra GT wins both in terms of reliability and technology package. Go read the 2015 JD Vehicle Quality Study and Hyundai came 1st place along with KIA. Korean cars have overtaken their Japanese counterparts in terms of reliability. And for the first time in history, several Japanese brands have fallen below the industrial average.
Dude you got a BMW badge on the profile PIC but from your opinion it makes it clear that you haven't driven German Cars , or Japanese for that matter , I agree Japanese have become crap but no good with the Koreans either . I live in the middle East and we have Koreans over taking the japense for value of what gizmos ?/who cares how the car drives what is needed and what is not. by the way 1.6 L Mazda 3 offered here is made in Japan and equally proved to accent so why not a Mazda ? basically you are off topic on the section with getting Korean crap here
+Frostystudio I say Ford is better because I've been around Ford cars a while I like them. I love Mazda so much as well. and frankly I'm going to buy a car soon and don't know what to get focus or Mazda. it all depends on the deal I guess. I love them both. Both are equally good in their ways.
Focus styling is way better than the Mazda when put side by side. I find the Focus felt more solid and the steering more engaging. Also like the interior feel and plastics better in the Focus. Test drive both and see for yourself.
Two things I don't like about the Mazda.. That stupid looking screen and the excessive road noise for a all new car. The focus is really starting to show its age, even with the latest update.
I've owned it for just about a year now and I have to say, it is an amazing car. Specially the interior, gearbox, driving position and engine sound. It's just me, my wife and a dog so couldn't care less about the boot and rear leg room. I just like that everybody says the car feels like a 40 grand car. At first they all though I had won the lotto and bough a super cool Euro..
So that reluctance that people talk about in Mazda's has more to do with American crappy gas. Since Mazda is running such a high compression rate in their engines, they had to make a change with the hard acceleration on low octane gas. If they did not change it, the engine would be prone to knocking. (This is why the new Miata has the same engine, but not any issues since it runs only on premium and is tuned like the Europe Sky activ. )
Not a ford guy, but I recently rented a 2015 focus hatchback and I loved the damn thing. I was throughly impressed with the car's interior and handling. Speed, not the fastest but it did the job of hauling a mountain bike and some luggage very well while returning an avg of 37 mpg.
I thought they were based on the same chassis? The last models were, at east in europe, same as Mazda 2 being based on the Fiesta, and 6 on the Mondeo.
the mazda is a better all around package definately but the focus probably handles better and looks better outside. The focus with a manual transmission and without myfordtouch is the way to go if you want the focus or wait until sync 3 next year. (the mazda3 hatch looks better than the sedan though). I have a friend who owns a focus with the dct and I woudnt recommand it. He's not happy with that transmission.
mazda 3 has an optional active grille shutters usually seen in expensive sports cars. More on this www.edmunds.com/car-news/active-grille-shutters-are-latest-way-to-improve-fuel-efficiency.html
I hate how some japanese manufacturers dont wrap the window frame, so you can see the exterior paint on the interior bits. Ford and GM both do this. Cant be that expensive. MB doesnt do it on their small cars either. Cheapens the car to me.
+Garrett McKie No kidding, I think the Focus is much better looking. It reminds me of an Aston Martin in the front. Mazdas always look like they are trying too hard to be cool.
+265justy Totally agree! While styling it's a matter of personal preference- and I think this 3rd gen. Mazda3 it's better looking that the current Ford Focus; what it is undeniable is that Mazda Kodo design (of course, not including the MX-5) it's much more original than Ford's Aston Martin wannabe style.
brady M It will easily compete with the S GT version Mazda does have lot of downsides which a lot of buyers cant help ignoring Like super stiff ride at speeds below 20 mph Worst , absolutely crappy cabin insulation, it feels like a chep shit Chevy sonic inside at speeds excess of 50 mph, so loud and drone unlike quiet, composed,Focus Boot space, Mazda gives slightly better legroom but sacrifices boot space in doing so, but Focus gets better boot space and less rear seat room, since most compact car buyers seldom use rear seats but use the boot more Focus gets the tick Whatever people might say the voice activated SYNC is light years ahead of BMW copied system used by Mazda Focus costs less
Sick and tired of all the people complaint at the road noise. I don't even bat an eye when I drive mine and it's not even that loud acting like its a rocket ship, are you 70+ on hearing aids? Get over it, The bigger engine keeps focuses in the dust as well
Brandy M I am a person who leans more on feel, its not the perception of touch, alone that eeks quality, how it sounds matters, I am 25, I drive a Fiesta ecoboost, I had a choice between Mazds 2 new one and Fiesta as well but again just like Mazda 3 tge Mazda 2 s crappy shit tin can sonding doors unlike solid"thud" sounding Focus And once I get past 50 mph it feels like I am driving it at 70 mph, cuz its noo noisy ans makes one feel the speed, Have U been in any luxury cars, If not U wont understand it, Mercedes E class is a car that I drive a lot as well its a w202 gen one and boy despite being a big brawny 2.2l diesel under the hood it sounds quiter than the gas Mazda at speeds excess of 70 mph
I recently had a Mazda 3 for a week as a rental. Great fuel economy but low on power. The interior leaves a lot to be desired, the fixed infotainment screen really bothered me, but the rotary dial interface was user friendly and the stereo sounded great. Wierd nonsporty styling, slow, and poor interior design are all reasons why I'd never buy one, even at 17,000 definitely not at near 30 grand!
stop asking me to change my name! Wow, don't get your panties in a bundle because he said something negative about a car you like. He said it was low on power because it is; it's one of the slowest accelerating cars in its class. He never mentioned a "higher end car" or a mid size car with a V6. He mentioned it's non-sporty styling because its styling is not sporty. It's a very reserved design. And there's a difference between sporty _styling_ and actually be sporty; one he mentioned and one he didn't but you pretended he did. Basically, he said that it was slow and didn't have sporty styling and your takeaway from that was that he was comparing it to higher end cars with a V6 and saying that a Civic and Corolla are sportier. Completely put words in his mouth.
Imma Turkey Its a Ford..... lol my dads 2002 has 170k no issues you dont even work on cars like i do the Focus is also American made in Deerborn plant i didnt say the 3 sucked there great cars.
Ever heard of the Ford 9 inch rear diff? Ask any Drag racer runs Ford i inch rears even chevy guys and you say Ford sucks but the Mazda B series was the Ford ranger you dumbfuck lol
Americans, sticks on what they know for a long time so thats why on the comments it's always ford ford faster faster stylish, stylish, faster, ford, false, stylish, opinion
Mike V. Well I didn't think it was hideous until I saw this review.. also, the only focus I have ever been in is a Focus ST so I was curious as to what both these cars were like.. The Focus is definitely the better of the two, looks better, nicer interior (aside from the retarded steering wheel with only buttons on the left side).. As for the Mazda 3, I saw the new Scion concept based on it and thought to myself, wow that looks terrible.. so I was curious to what the 3 looks like... and well, not much difference.
Hi Guys , just for the better infotainment system you are ranking Mazda to be a better car ? I have driven both cars and Mazda just feels like an upscale Hyundai accent , low gauage of metal used on the body with cheap paint which feels the paint is not even on a proper primer . road noise on long trips is annoying on the Mazda. the rear seat on the Mazda with it rear window design comes up to the neck height makes you extremely clustorphobic and the car has horrible body roll compared to the focus. Fixed infotainment is always on the risk of theft.
are they not the same car, same platform and same engine, just different sheet metal? and different interior parts? what the hell is this video saying? the engine tuned different, probably in the cpu
They are definatley not the same car. The cars use totally different platforms and engines. Remember, this Mazda was built several years after Ford sold them on.
I like them both but I'll take the Focus over the Mazda. Even though the Mazda 3 debuted for 2014, it looks dated already. Its an ugly car from all angles except the front. The interior is too plain and the pop up HUD is a joke. To each his own, I guess.
The 2019 Ford Focus is catching up to a 2014 Mazda 3 with stuck on screen and plastic HUD. LOL However, in 2019, Mazda is moving away from the plastic HUD to directly project to windscreen while Ford just putting the plastic one on...
The Mazda is just plain awful , the dash looks like something from the '80s , no temp gauge , just a speedo and fuel . The Nav tablet in the centre looks like a last minute addition . 👎🏻😝
I have to laugh. This is nothing but Asian vs American. The chassis and frames are one and the same. It's all about cosmetics and feel when driving. Add a few hundred dollars in upgrades to the focus and they drive the same too. And without the higher insurance rate of the mazda Congrats to all the Ford haters. How do you think Ford survived the economy crash?
Mathew Hamel Don't get the ford hater morons started. They'll tell you the only reason everyone drives ford vehicles is because they're cheap. That's why the fseries and explorer are the most expensive in their segment right? Yeah cops, paramedics, fire fighters , business owners and casual consumers care about reliablity, ford knows this and they make reliable cars to suit their needs. Lol someone said the reason cops use the explorers and not like Honda pilots, is because ford gives them discounts and they said Toyota and Honda never discount their cars, was laughing my ass off.
Not sure why you would compare a sedan vs. hatchback, when each of these comes in both versions.
Comparing the looks doesn't make sense, it all comes down to personal preference. I personally think the Focus facelift is one of the best looking hatchbacks on the market. The classy daylight LED at the front is so beautifully done. And it's a damn good car to drive. So yes, it's the Focus for me!

The Mazda3 is the perfect hatchback.
Great interior, sexy exterior, drives like a dream and is fuel efficient.
Why didn't you compare hatch tho hatch out sedan to sedan? AutoGuide.com
That's like what? 3 years in a row? Go Mazda!
Mazda overall has value for money. Owned 3 Mazdas and never failed to impressed me.
LJ Ford prob owned Mazda and used their engines in Mazda products when you owned yours. If you owned a Mazda from the 90s to 2010, it likely used ford parts to a degree, that's why they were prob good.
Ehh. The way he says Mazda is like nails on a chalkboard . Since when is it Mehzda
I believe they pronounce Mazda that way in England. The host may have some roots from there.
I think he's a mexican immigrant
R like your mom
Cristobal Torres i love ur mom
So does my old man

why compare a sedan to a hatch? mazda 3 hatch is available.....
I think that the Mazda3 has retained its fun DNA which puts it a step ahead of the Focus
Why do they do these tests with the automatics? The focus's dual clutch is a pile that breaks all the time, but the manual is solid and works great.
The screen on the Mazda is like the ones found on the Audi n Mercedes also BMW ford focus is great but I put my money on the mazda

+Achtung! And your very well informed sentence is based on.........?
If you like constant recall notices, get the Focus.
Get manual transmission
The 2015 Ford Focus is superior over the 2015 Mazda 3.
Although, with my money, I bought the 2015 Hyundai Elantra instead.
MilanoFootball The 2015 Hyundai Elantra is definitely the best quality car in this segment.
MilanoFootball Korean cars are the most reliable cars in the industry.
Shirazi That's because Korea is the most technologically advanced country in the world. So it's no surprise they make the best quality cars too.
MilanoFootball The 2015 Hyundai Elantra is the superior choice.
RealMadridSuperiority The designs of the 2015 Mazda's look outdated and old. I like the 2013 look better.
Focus st is my pick. If I was ever to drive a compact car.
DevPack I'll get the rs instead.
true, but its going cost close to 40grand if not more
DevPack wait till the new Mazdaspeed3 comes out in 2018.. that'd be my choice.
DevPack Keep waiting on the Mazdaspeed3, still another 3 years away! It has NOT been around since like 2013. What's Mazda thinking.......
I freaking love MyFord Touch, even despite its gripes. Sad to see it go...
Mahzduh 3 is a top competitor and i'd take it over the ford any day!
+Frostystudio I say Ford is better because I've been around Ford cars a while I like them. I love Mazda so much as well. and frankly I'm going to buy a car soon and don't know what to get focus or Mazda. it all depends on the deal I guess. I love them both. Both are equally good in their ways.
There is a CT170 label in my 2003 focus wagon under the tire
after some searching it was something to do with Volvo S40 frame
Where is 0-60 compare ?
You found " Low Speed Shuddering Issues" please explain?
ayokarlos Ive driven a focus before. Its awful. It jitters when you accelerate of the start. Horrible car.
I know everyone that has one including my mom says the same thing. Would not recommended the focus to anyone period.
ayokarlos can confirm. There is clutch shudder between 1st and 2nd gear changes. The shutter get more noticeable during stop and go traffic.
smh.
I like the Mazda 3, but it seems to be hard to get it in anything but black interior. I'm not a huge fan of black interiors.
I would take the Mazda.
I like both cars and it will come down to which one I get the better deal at purchase time
DCT's need a Torque Converter.
Focus styling is way better than the Mazda when put side by side. I find the Focus felt more solid and the steering more engaging. Also like the interior feel and plastics better in the Focus. Test drive both and see for yourself.
+Vincent O are they not the same car built on the same platform?
wow your lisp has really gotten less noticeable. keep practicing!
Two things I don't like about the Mazda.. That stupid looking screen and the excessive road noise for a all new car. The focus is really starting to show its age, even with the latest update.

Yes, the screen is kind of weird.
But it is becoming a trend now.
The road noise, like I said is not bad...
Way better than my 2010 Lancer GT
mazda 3 ist the perfect compact car.
I agree, Mazda is best!
Quality, but way too short of a review guys!

Mazda all the time

I bet that there's spit all over the dash of that Maaaazda.

I was looking to buy one of these exact cars few months ago. I decided to buy the Ford.
+Marush “Luci” Denchev me too, are they not the same car built on the same platform, with different sheet metal? and other small differences?
+Richard parnell Mazda and fitted separated a couple of years ago. Mazda and Ford use totally different platforms
The 3 is a lot better than the Focus. ❤️
Your vs videos are the best!!!!👍
Why do you say Mazda like that?
You can tell which guy is Canadian by the way he says mazda
2:54 even CC can't figure out what's in your MOUTH...
ok, this should have been the battle of the hatchbacks. Get the Mazda 3, Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra GT, VW Golf
the usability of my centre knob is great too! Just ask my GF!
I hate how some japanese manufacturers dont wrap the window frame, so you can see the exterior paint on the interior bits. Ford and GM both do this. Cant be that expensive. MB doesnt do it on their small cars either. Cheapens the car to me.

Do you really like the vagina inspired infotainment system of 2010+ fords?
Mazda3 hatchback all day...
lol someone has the Peter puffer wisp when talking and he drives the Mazda..
should've compared the titanium to the s gt version
Yea, the focus can't compete with the sGT
Exactly
brady M It will easily compete with the S GT version
Mazda does have lot of downsides which a lot of buyers cant help ignoring
Like super stiff ride at speeds below 20 mph
Worst , absolutely crappy cabin insulation, it feels like a chep shit Chevy sonic inside at speeds excess of 50 mph, so loud and drone unlike quiet, composed,Focus
Boot space, Mazda gives slightly better legroom but sacrifices boot space in doing so, but Focus gets better boot space and less rear seat room, since most compact car buyers seldom use rear seats but use the boot more Focus gets the tick
Whatever people might say the voice activated SYNC is light years ahead of BMW copied system used by Mazda
Focus costs less
Sick and tired of all the people complaint at the road noise. I don't even bat an eye when I drive mine and it's not even that loud acting like its a rocket ship, are you 70+ on hearing aids? Get over it, The bigger engine keeps focuses in the dust as well

And once I get past 50 mph it feels like I am driving it at 70 mph, cuz its noo noisy ans makes one feel the speed,
Have U been in any luxury cars, If not U wont understand it,
Mercedes E class is a car that I drive a lot as well its a w202 gen one and boy despite being a big brawny 2.2l diesel under the hood it sounds quiter than the gas Mazda at speeds excess of 70 mph

mazda best
I want this car
I got a question is Mazda the same company as ford
That Lisp Gets You every TIme How did he get that job
My dad has the Mazda 3 and it's good, someone ran into the side of him and we got the Ford Focus se as a rental and its shit.
How i got 40.1 mpg going 70mph with hills Your lying how was it shit?
It's a ford... It's transmission was shit, it felt cheap and felt small.
I would pick the Ford over the Mazda.
Hell yea
Who hit Mazda without even watching!
Toyota Auris 7speed.
Ford _exterior_ is better looking, Mazda _interior_ looks better. To me!
They are so biased towards the Mazda. They both hate Fords'.
I prefer the Mazda myself but this review feels so bias to the mazda.
It shudders because you shifted too soon
ew, american cars are the epitome of garage Mazda FTW
but can their be a third option, maybe a Ferrari La Ferrari?
or a pagani.:D
Mister mood i'd rather drive a boat
Wildman really i would rather a turtle :D
Your dumber than a rock.
Revv match1996 rocks are pretty smart.
Mister Mood That explains why they don't move
The screen in the Mazda looks like an afterthought.
Americans, sticks on what they know for a long time so thats why on the comments it's always ford ford faster faster stylish,
stylish,faster,ford,false,stylish,opinion
Focus wins hands down these guys are taking shit. It's there choice which is shit
I've been right on all the picks in the bracket so far, free stuff coming my way yet!? lol :P
I had to stop watching because of how the guy with the glasses pronounced Mazda
For $30, 000 you get cloth seats on the Mazda? That is quite expensive..
That was the bear base model...
Man, that was the super base model...
And the cloth seats are actually very good
I find the Mazda 3 hideous.. I'm not particularly fond of the Focus either..
Sigrafix Good for you
Sigrafix Perfect review for you to watch, then.
Sigrafix The Scion concept is based on Mazda2 NOT on Mazda3, yea I do agree it looks bad as a Scion.
Mario K I didn't even know there was a such thing as a Mazda 2.. I thought the 3 was their small car.
Thanks for letting me know.
Why the fuck does beardo mispronounce at least one car name in every video I've seen him in? Its not mAHza... stop emphasizing the A.
+Richard parnell ex the chase in the mazda is perfect.... they have the same chase. kind of like the vibe and the matrix. except Toyota doesn't own GM
+Richard parnell The 2015 Mazda3 is an all-new car developed in-house by Mazda. It no longer is related to the Ford Focus.
+AutoGuide.com sorry meant to say heck not hell, buy they look the same
mazda and ford split so nope, they are entirely different
They are definatley not the same car. The cars use totally different platforms and engines. Remember, this Mazda was built several years after Ford sold them on.
At the end why do i like more the Focus? Yes Mazda is a nice car, but i do like Focus sorry
imo mazda makes really ugly ass cars rivaled by toyota. lol
IMO, Mazda used to make tacky style cars, when the company was owned by Ford. But now Mazda makes the most beautiful cars in its (mainstream) segment.
Just that idiotic name "skyactiv" eliminates the mazda for me. Ford for the win.
$30,000 for a compact car lol I don't think so lol rip off no matter whats in it
Learn how to say Mazda dude.
I cringe everytime he says mAAAzda!
+ericj305 I'm not your buddeh, gah!
Mazda for sure!! Ford suck badly
how is the mazda looking better XD...
LOL
However, in 2019, Mazda is moving away from the plastic HUD to directly project to windscreen while Ford just putting the plastic one on...
The Mazda is just plain awful , the dash looks like something from the '80s , no temp gauge , just a speedo and fuel . The Nav tablet in the centre looks like a last minute addition . 👎🏻😝
Ford all the way
Ford owns Mazda, dont they?
No! Why people doesn't search on google just for a few seconds, before to make this kind of commentaries/ questions?
he said "mA-z-duh". It's pronounced, "mah-z-duh".
Gtfo!! The Mazda3 really?
I have to laugh.
This is nothing but Asian vs American.
The chassis and frames are one and the same. It's all about cosmetics and feel when driving. Add a few hundred dollars in upgrades to the focus and they drive the same too. And without the higher insurance rate of the mazda
Congrats to all the Ford haters.
