When I was shopping in 2014 for a Compact these two cars were my finalists. In the end, I went with the Forte 5 EX model because, contrary to what the reviewer said, I thought the interior of the Kia was certainly superior and I could get more options for the money. Even bigger deal was the rear passenger space - the Mazda3's backseat was an absolute PENALTY BOX. The Kia, by contrast, consistently surprises my passengers with its roominess. Two years later, couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.
If my wife didn't have spinal problems that causes her constant pain I would have bought the Mazda3 back in January. It's just too harsh over bumpy roads. Ended up getting Kia's older brother, the Hyundai Elantra. I agree the Mazda has the fuel economy, quality interior, and sporty handling over most other compact sedans, but what car would you choose as your daily commuter car to live with the bumpy roads and stop & go traffic? Even if my wife wasn't a factor, I'd choose the Kia over the Mazda. I'd love to take the Mazda to a curvy mountain road or a race track but I'd hate to take it back and forth to work every day.
I test drove both cars and ended up going with the KIA Forte5 SX 2015 model. The turbo just trumps the Mazda in every way, and for $3000/less than Mazda3. Both are good cars, but one must compare the real contender which is the KIA Forte5 SX with the 201 hp 195 pounds of torque twin scroll engine. Also, I disagree with the reviewers on this video, the KIA interior is much better designed than the Mazda 3 and has a soft touch dash, compared to the hard plastic of Mazda 3. Plus, the KIA has a much quieter cabin and feels more like a man's car. Mazda is a mom's car, whereas the former Audi designer who now works for KIA really has done his best making this Forte5 SX feel like an Audi A3 through and through.
+Soulja Jackson You can't convince the Mazda lovers because they have their eyes closed and their fingers pugged in their ears. You give them first hand experience and facts and they just respond with "Mazda is way better dude".
That Kia has a Mom cars dashboard. It's too sloped and soft in appearance. It's the Mazda that has a better and more masculine appearance. Inside and Out. Funny enough, it's the Mazda that looks like it took design cues from Audi. Especially the touchscreen that is permanently popped up on the dash. More fun and way better mpg.
Sounds more like a Mazda commercial. I bought my wife the 2015 KIA Forte its quick, sporty and one smooth sweet ride all around. My wife is only 4'11'' she can see easily over the dash and steering wheel. I'm 6'1"and I have plenty of leg room for me when I get to drive. It also has a 5 star safety rating. She absolutely loves it and that's what really matters...
+john beasley I agree with you 100%. So many on here trash the car and company and I would bet they've never even seen one up close let alone driven one.
I have Mazda 3 1.6 petrol engine, My friend has kia cerato "forte5" 2.0 And guess what?! My car beated the cerato at speed of 60mile to 100 mile! In my opinion, Mazda give you the feel of sportiness with a less horse power in contrast, the cerato has much horse power but it doesn't give you the feel of sportiness at all. Not stylish also
The as tested price for the Mazda3 can't be $30365. That's the price for the fully loaded 2.5 S GT model. The Mazda3 shown in this vid is a 2.0 i Touring model, which is around $21k.
The Kia Forte is more comfortable and powerful even when it comes to spare parts in case of any accidents it is cheaper than the mazda's spare parts. Sure the mazda looks sportier and better but in the end you want a more reliable car to make use out of your money ! I say Kia = More reliable, Cheaper, more powerful, better handling and more comfortable Mazda = Sportier exterior, More economical, better interior design.
Of course the Mazda3 would win. It's your favorite car as quoted above. "The Mazda3 has become a favorite around the AutoGuide office." I would you were suppose to help us buy a car that would fit in to our disposition. "Help shop for your new car with informative car buying tips and car recall news, and be entertained with feature stories." The Mazda3 is good and all and I like it but it's you guys that I go to other channels. Not even worth calling yourselves a trustworthy channel.
i am sorry but you put that the car you are testing is 30.000... thats a lie.. thats the i not the s model.. and cant cost also with all the xtras 30.000 so wrong
The Mazda is sadly let down by hideously unreliable skyactiv technology. We get tons of broken down Skyactivs into our Mazda dealer because of stupid design flaws Mazda didn't think about. Such as things like a sealed transmission so the fluid cannot be exchanged and over time the fluid gets acidic and eats the metal cogs and sensors. If you plan to keep your Mazda for 5+ years, be ready for big repair bills...
Brandon Friesen you know mazda is not the only manufacturer that makes sealed in transmissions. You're making it seem like it's a mazda issue. They make super reliable cars dude.
madridtillidie They're one of few. Other manufacturers make proper fluid that doesn't break down and become acidic like the Mazdas. They used to make reliable cars. The old 2.0 non-skyactiv was bulletproof.
+Romband1919 Based on what? Korean cars are more reliable based on initial quality and after 5 year ownership according to JD Power which is a widely recognized marketing technology company. Is there a fact you can actually supply as to why you prefer Japanese to Korean or is it just a preference thing?
Koreans like to offer very long warranties (7 years or more). The Japanese warranties and service intervals are now similar to German cars and can even be more expensive to repair than German cars. Korean cars are the new Japanese!
The hosts had they mind set on saying the Mazda3 is better than the Kia because it's a Mazda I personally don't like Mazda at all the mazda3 design is boring to me especially the sedan I like the hatchback design much better than the sedan the interior design is Boring to me I feel like they played the Kia because if they would have put this Mazda head to head with the Kia Forte5 SX turbo with the better exterior styling and the light package and the better interior I think it would have won hands down just because the fuel economy on the Mazda3 was good it won hands down they should do a redo of this because I disagree you get better features for the buck with the Kia Forte that's why summer 2k17 I will be putting a down payment on the Kia forte5 SX turbo but i will say if I had a chance to buy a Mazda I will either buy the mazda6 or the CX-3 or even the CX-5.
my mom has a mazda3 and I absolutely hate it. I'm only 5'9 and it's too small for even me. I hate driving it. But what's the other thing a Kia. Yeah mazda wins. Even though I hate the car.
+James Whyard LOL, Mazda have NEVER used CVT in any of its cars. Mazda3 >>>>> Kia Forte5. I have not seen any reviews out there that would recommend Forte5 over Mazda3.
Yeah.. Ofcourse MAZDA Cars are Over rated. But in Real Life and Daily Use, KIA FORTE5 is Better than Mazda 3. In the Philippines and U.S, Kia Forte is appreciated by Many Car enthusiasts.
+Quang Lam You have no idea about which you speak. Hyundai and Kia have luxury cars that can compete with Mercedes and Lexus but with a much cheaper price tag. Hyundai has been around since 1967 and is the fourth largest vehicle manufacturer in the world. Do more research and drive one assuming you're old enough to have a licence. In 2004 Hyundai tied Honda for initial brand quality and then went on in 2006 to surpass them earning a third place behind only Lexus and Porsche. I would say that doesn't sound like cheap now does it? You sound like you don't know any automotive history at all and only gather what you know from the encyclopedia of " fast and the furious".
I totally agree with Carlos. There are just too many asian boy racers only knows about Japanese cars. You know what? That's about to change. Japanese cars are not the best quality, reliability and value anymore. As for me, I would buy Hyundai over Japanese cars any day.
Carlos, you are wrong. Hyundai and Kia are not on the same level as Honda, Mazda, or TOYOTA. They just started making decent cars in the last few years. They used to make cars like the one on the Rodney King video. No one even consider them. They've got growing pains. This video also shares my view. You have no fact to back up what you're saying.
Quang Lam Mr. Lam, you are right about Korean cars are started a little late making awesome cars than Japanese. But Koreans are sure coming along really well and ready to surpass Japanese brands in very near future. And it's always a good thing to have a challenge and a game changer!! Thank for your thoughts.
I"m a fan of both Kia and Mazda. My father has a CX-5 with the 2.5 and we both agree, it"s a great car. I have to drive it every time I visit him. I like what Mazda has brought to the game dynamics-wise and honestly, I think their entire lineup is great save maybe the CX-9 but I never think much about larger SUV's. Across the whole range, I"d tell anyone to test drive a Mazda first, then compare from there. I cannot afford a new Mazda 3 and the ones I wanted were holding too much value, so I picked up a low-mileage '14 Forte 2.0 EX for a steal, and LOVE it. The GDI and 6sp Auto work very well together, pulling way harder than you'd expect yet still always cracking 30mpg on a tank. Sure it's a bit behind a Mazda product in dynamics, but it still beats a similar Civic or Sentra for driving fun, and KIA can offer a ton of features due to their favorable exchange rate. And hey, just look up the Focus's transmission unreliability...lol. the KIA had exactly what I wanted when I couldn't quite afford the Mazda, and since I do a fair amount of city driving, the Forte might have just been the better choice.
+DoubleD 613 That's an option. A 2012 Kia Forte5 sx is a nice handling fully loaded reliable vehicle with 6 speed transmission, paddle shifts, 17" rims, good sounding audio system with bluetooth, sunroof, heated leather seating , front window deicer, steering wheel controls, power windows, auto headlights, four wheel disc brakes, 173 horsepower etc. Faster, better handling with more features , and cheaper than same year used Toyota Matrix. Thank all the Kia naysayers for the great deal you can get on a used one.
Japanese vs Koreans I'll take Japanese anytime...i have mazda 13 years kia can't t last long ,my friend have she have to see mechanic every 4 months i have my 13 years no fixing
ok sorry pitting a Mazda 3 against a Kia Forte is like seal clubbing. Its dirty, bloody and not something anyone wants to see. Pit the Mazda 3 against something better please.
+Mahgwa Every Mazda I see more than 2 yrs old is a rusting piece of walrus shit. Reviewers love the Mazda 3 for 5 minutes then they backpedal in their admiration for the car. Overall the Mazda 3 is not the better vehicle and unreliable as well. It is a lease not own vehicle. Drive a Kia Forte5 SX and you will change your tune and 5 yrs down the road drive it again past the Mazda 3 rusted flower pot in your front yard.
"as hatchbacks" and you guys test the sedan version of the mazda 3 ...
When I was shopping in 2014 for a Compact these two cars were my finalists. Oh, and the Mazda warranty sucks
Hatch vs. Sedan???

+Soulja Jackson You can't convince the Mazda lovers because they have their eyes closed and their fingers pugged in their ears. You give them first hand experience and facts and they just respond with "Mazda is way better dude".
haha MAZDA 3 MUCH BETTER you better find good mechanic ill never get KIA IS CRAP

So it does a good job Smoothening?
Sounds more like a Mazda commercial.

How the car lasts after three years? I am considering trade-in my wife's Mazda2 to a used Forte 5 door..
Kia has the nicer grille, longer warranty and available turbo! 201 hp!
I wouldn't doubt if that guy makes a lisp on purpose based on the way he likes to pronounce Măzda and Elăntra.
From the title i thought it's the mazda3 hatchback. Any way mazda3 ftw.
+muhammed abbas I test drove both and bought a KIA.
in my country kia forte full options cost 1k less than mid trim mazda3 . I don't know which one to buy
I have Mazda 3 1.6 petrol engine,
My friend has kia cerato "forte5" 2.0
And guess what?!
My car beated the cerato at speed of 60mile to 100 mile!
In my opinion, Mazda give you the feel of sportiness with a less horse power in contrast, the cerato has much horse power but it doesn't give you the feel of sportiness at all. Not stylish also
Dhme Janbi Youre silly.
buildmorefarms100 hi silly!, my name is Dhme :)
Hi Dhme, how are you?
Easy win for the Mazda3, the best in its class.

I say
Kia = More reliable, Cheaper, more powerful, better handling and more comfortable
Mazda = Sportier exterior, More economical, better interior design.
How do you turn on the drl (daytime running lights) on the Kia Forte??
Auto on the stalk...
Mazda3, the Forte can't even compete.
kia have better guality and options. and turbo with less price. I dont know why most of people like mazda3? just because of looking nice!
mazda symbol, kia symbol! oh my my.
Aha. Three versus four tay five.
Of course the Mazda3 would win. It's your favorite car as quoted above. "The Mazda3 has become a favorite around the AutoGuide office." Kia and hyundais base and mid trims all have awful infortainment units where as most cars have a nice large lcd screen
kia forte is called kia k3 in korea
Get the forte, The Mazda will only bring headaches
Ohhh it's called Forte5 cause it's a 5 door! I'm not a smart man
+Mejevoli Would you like a box of chocolates?
i am sorry but you put that the car you are testing is 30.000... thats a lie.. thats the i not the s model.. and cant cost also with all the xtras 30.000 so wrong
This isn't even a competition who in their right mind would choose the Kia?

You're on every mazda video with the same comments lol dude
madridtillidie Im giving a buyer beware. Mazdas already sending TSB's and free extended warranty programs because of this
Brandon Friesen you know mazda is not the only manufacturer that makes sealed in transmissions. You're making it seem like it's a mazda issue. They make super reliable cars dude.

Why are these reviewers so fixated on Mazda it seems like every comparison test I see they pick the Mazda above all else
there's no way that 2.0L Mazda3 is priced at $30k.. tops out at around 25k without the 2.5
Love them both.
Lol at calling that Mazda a hatchback, that is clearly not a hatchback
if u didnt like the review ,, just watch the ending ,
man ,,,
30k for a compact Mazda? Crazy
Another silly comparison. Why not compare the Mazda hatchback instead of sedan? This stuff shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.
kia forte os called kia k3 in korea
Did any one else notice how he says Mazda
If i was looking for styling, it would be the Mazda 3. If i am looking for quality, it would be Honda Civic. Would never buy Kia or Hyundai.
my mom has a mazda3 and I absolutely hate it. I'm only 5'9 and it's too small for even me. I hate driving it. But what's the other thing a Kia. Yeah mazda wins. Even though I hate the car.
DAT ENDING THO! :D
HEY WAKE UP! That's a sedan.
lisp is back
Wow. Less headroom and cargo capacity and 20 less horsepower and more expensive and the Mazda wins? Horseshit
KIA Please.
K to the I to the A...
kia kiraly
Mazda has CVT! Emphysema on wheels, whereas the KIA has a real auto 6 speed. No contest, no belt drive on the KIA...
+James Whyard
LOL, Mazda have NEVER used CVT in any of its cars.
Mazda3 >>>>> Kia Forte5. I have not seen any reviews out there that would recommend Forte5 over Mazda3.
+JoshL All M3 autos in Australia have asthma matic CVT...
No it's not. It's conventional 6-speed automatic.
www.mazda.com.au/cars/mazda3-hatch/features/performance-and-fuel-efficiency/
Yeah.. Ofcourse MAZDA Cars are Over rated. But in Real Life and Daily Use, KIA FORTE5 is Better than Mazda 3. In the Philippines and U.S, Kia Forte is appreciated by Many Car enthusiasts.
It reads "continuously variable and dual clutch transmissions"...
That was predictable!
Once again mazda 3 wins another round.
Only Mazda!
The forte is not even in the same class as the Mazda. You got to be crazy to compare these 2.

Mazda>Kia
what's wrong with this channel?
Did you really have to have this comparison? You don't need to watch it to know that the Mazda beats the Kia
motormusique Kia is a better car than Mazda. Maybe 10 years ago, Mazda might have been better but not in 2015 and up.
*****
Ha, you're funny. The Mazda is such a better driving car it's apparent.
+Estrading Co Not even 5 years ago was Madzda3 better. I'm not talking about the Mazdaspeed3 versions as Kia has no equivalent.
compering mazda vs kia LOL WOW mazda is much better car
1234Krug you think.
Japanese vs Koreans I'll take Japanese anytime...i have mazda 13 years kia can't t last long ,my friend have she have to see mechanic every 4 months i have my 13 years no fixing
