- Since it's our first time in Malaysia we are still learning so much about this country. We just arrived to the famous paradise and jewel of Malaysia, known as Langkawi. We were surprised when we arrived that we recently just found out THIS about Langkawi island in Malaysia... it really is a backpackers paradise and an underrated travel destination in Southeast Asia! Here's our first impressions of Langkawi and what you should expect when you visit as a tourist or budget traveller.

Langkawi is my paradise, when I'm in Malaysia, Langkawi is the first that I go before go to another city.
Langkawi is huge. Many beaches to explore!
Next you should try Nasi Kandar with mixed curry or known as "curry campur". They mix around 5 type of curry and that's how locals usually eat
Try roti canai with blackpepper sauce...nasi dagang pak malau and visit dayang bunting island
the best is naan cheese
try n experience the Cameron Highland cool nice n beautiful scenery..try n go there
Unfortunately some of the most beautiful beaches are located at private resorts such as the Datai Bay, only can be accessed by The Datai Resort guests, for the public beaches I would say Tanjung Rhu is among the best beaches in Langkawi

you should drop by to Sarawak and Sabah, Malaysia, great city with great culture

the laksa and kolomee is the best in the world in Kuching Sarawak. and the local Chinese Coffee shop
Forget to tell u guys, theres a proper homemade local skatepark that can be use for public by the rice field…we skaters collected funds all over malaysia to build it. Visit it

That treehouse place is called Mali Best. If you like a little mild adventure of limestone and mangroves sea kayaking, plus bat caves, you can try Langkawi Nature Guide conduct by Wendy. She's very experienced and super informative about everything you want to know. It's a chill relax half day session which I always enjoyed it when I'm in Langkawi. Welcome to Langkawi. Pantai Cenang is very much famous for tourists because of the beach. For the locals, we go there once in a while to "play" tourists. You can try visiting Yellow Cafe or Hidden Cafe. There is fire show on Pantai Cenang just right after the sunset, sometimes there is one in Hidden Cafe. For the "kampung" ambience, you can try the restaurant in Laman Padi (opposite Casa Del Mar). Someone below recommended Nasi Dagang Pak Malau, and I couldn't agree more. Go there for breakfast around 8am. Their mutton and chicken rendang run out quickly after 10am. Having your meals in Kuah town will be much cheaper comparing to those in Pantai Cenang. For better beaches, Tanjung Rhu and Pantai Pasir Tengkorak (skull beach) are much better with lesser crowd. I personally like Pantai Pasir Tengkorak more but it is far from the town, though worth visiting. Zoe and Simon shared about Pantai Pasir Tengkorak on their channel (ua-cam.com/video/HhUTJ_Pw4o0/v-deo.html). Don't forget to take a picture with the iconic eagle statue at Dataran Lang. You can try McDonalds' McCafe or Instea in Cenang for coffee. They are opposite each other near the Underwater World.
Agreed with you about Pantai Pasir Tengkorak (skull beach). I went there when visited langkawi and it was so beautiful.

For a nice breakfast. Go to Pak Malau nasi dagang. It a nice restaurant in the central of Langkawi overseeing padee field. The best Malay food in Langkawi should be cili kampung. It serves authentic Malay good but it's very spicy and pricey. Don't miss out the gulai panas near the airport. For Chinese food , go to teo Langkawi. They fried noodle has so much work hey ...

I went to Langkawi back in Jan 2017 for 1 week, stayed in Pantai Cenang and loved the whole island
It's good to rent a motorcycle here, you can explore the island without time limit.

if you would like to have good swimming, you may visit Pantai Pasir Tengkorak (Skull beach). From Chenang, about 20 minutes by car. I bet you will not be disappointed.

Wow you came to Langkawi.. Welcome to my hometown.. if you want to swimming, better go pantai pasir tengkorak but a little bit far from pantai cenang.. pantai cenang more for water activity such as jet ski etc.. one more thing, pantai pasir tengkorak also near to temurun waterfall..

Yes, choc, cig, beer n alcohol r very cheap on duty free islands. Besides Langkawi, Pangkor, Tioman n Labuan r also duty free islands.
Extend your exploration to d secluded Tanjung Rhu beach, one of d beautiful beaches on d island. Also visit d pasar malam, open night markets on d island.
Just try all d delicious local Malay food on d island, with d Island vibes, those dishes taste much, much better.
Another island that is fully duty free is Pulau Pangkor in the state of Perak.
Seafood and accommodations is cheaper

U guys can go to Kopi Jebat Langkawi, they sell brewed coffee ☕..If u want to swim n snorkeling, u can go island hopping to smaller islands like Pulau Payar.. But mostly tropical islands with beautiful beach n crystal clear water are on the East Coast like Pulau Kapas, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Tioman🌴

Go to Tanjung Rhu beach at the northern side of the island for the best, quiet & beautiful beach. From there you can take boat tour that cost RM200 per boat which is very cheap. Just avoid eating seafood at any of the floating restaurant
The most beautiful beaches are in tanjung Rhu langkawi.
there is also a small cool restaurant run by a Frenchman along Chenang main street

Langkawi is a tax free island. You should get all the chocolates you like.. just remember - once on the lips, forever on the hips.
And about grinded coffee... try to look for kopi 434 which is pretty popular down south especially Muar, I the state of Johor.

Hi guys, for lunch i suggest "restoran Kak Yan". Near airport. There got some dish that originally from langkawi (they said).
For dinner, search for "chilli kampung". Really authentic negeri sembilan dishes. Ask the chef to customise the level of spicyness. They will happily make it for u.
Explore pekan Kuah, i think there got coffee grinder machine😁😁

You should try the Mangroves and KLIM boating tour. Its feel jurassic if you like nature
Give a road tour by motorbike round the island you will found other beautiful beach eg pantai tengah, pantai kok near datai ,tanjung rhu near 4seasons etc. Other then that you can capture beautiful scenery of mountain and padi field and much more .
Come to Terengganu
Langkawi is duty free island which bring the liquor price down, not to forget the chocolate paradise for chocolate lover. Not sure about the food there but you should look for ''ubat gamat'', sea cucumber local traditional medicine.
Then Penang, Malaysia... 😊👋🇲🇾
Stayed at Pantai Tengah before, south of Pantai Cenang, its much quiter though you would need to stay along the hotels/resorts along the beachfront.
Some more attractions in Langkawi that worth visiting:
-Kota Mahsuri (where Mahsuri's Tomb is located)
-Ayer Hangat Village (natural salt water hot spring)
-Galeria Perdana (Memorial dedicated to Tun Dr Mahathir former Malaysian's Prime Minister)
-Langkawi Craft Complex
-Beras Terbakar (Field of Burnt Rice)
-Kubang Badak Geopark/Geotrail
-Langkawi Geopark Discovery Center
-National Art Gallery Langkawi
-Laman Padi (Rice Museum and paddy field near chenang beach)
Pulau Langkawi is not well maintained like JEJU Island in Korea.
For good coffee in Langkawi you could try Smiling Buffalo located not far from pantai chenang… and the resort it self is also awesome which is called Panji-panji… recommended

Langkawi has always been the number one choice of tourists attractions both for locals and travellers. The island gets pretty hectic during school holidays. You guys got there at the more relax time of the year 👍🏻👍🏻 Penang falls at number two. Facts.
Most tourists are local. But Langkawi still gets that international vibe since there are a lot of foreigners here.. just like in KL. But islanders style. Chenang beach is the right place to be. Check-in in one of those cute hostels and see other travellers like yourselves.
Fresh seafoods here. And those might be pricy. Langkawi is pricy. Except chocolates and alcohol.
If you guys still looking for local places to go, i recommend Cameron Highlands. For the gorgeous nature.
And 'Borneo' generally speaking. Two hours of flight hours from the Peninsular.

When we were in Penang the ferry direct to Langkawi wasn't running, but it might be now. If you book a cheap flight though it can actually work out as a similar cost and saves time.

@@TravelsonToast Monsoon has already started and it has been raining towards the evening for a bit. Island operators told us they'll start to lock up their tours end of this month. Plan your journey wisely. Otherwise it's The Best place for Cheap Food (Nasi dagang, Nasi kerabu, keropok lekor etc) and accommodation!! 👍🏻
You should try Nasi Kandar in Penang. There is a lot of restaurant out there with Penang Original Kandar but i bet u it's taste different in Penang. Nasi Kandar. Deen Maju, Nasi Kandar Pelita Chai Leng Park, Nasi Kandar Bawah Pokok cheri, Nasi Kandar line Clear, Nasi kandar Beratur this are the place where you can get the original taste... Hope it's helpful
