I haven’t been to Koh Samui in many years and it looks like it’s changed quite a bit. Especially the price of meals! But it’s not fair to complain about the beaches and trash as you guys are there during the rainy season. Which is when the seas are rough, trash washes in, and the water isn’t clear. All tropical places have a wet season and you probably should of known that before you traveled there❤
Omg that’s exactly why I was going to say, about the time of year. rainy season bring storms and a lot of the cases with storms come garbage unfortunately. That plus dirty tourists. Anyways to them I say try again in February.
Yes, I was JUST about to point that out. I was there in July 2022 and all the beaches I visited was calm and clean and clear. If you go during monsoon season all the heavy waves bring all the trash and debris to the shores. Thats probably why the tickets were so cheap to fly there during the month you went.
The three of us eat regularly multiple plates of amazing food for 300 to 400 baht (9 to 12 US). I don't know where this guy is eating but he paid very premium price.
Wow, I really don't know where to start. As a professional photographer I've explored Thailand extensively and consider Koh Samui to be one the the jewels of S.E. Asia. First of all, if you travel around the island there are dozens of beaches that are not part of the mainstream tourist scene and are quit beautiful and pristine. Koh Samui's best attraction isn't so much the bars, restaurants and tourist hot spots e.g. Fisherman's Village, but rather it is the beautiful nature you can discover there by exploring the island and "taking the road less traveled'.
Well said! We love Koh Samui, IF you can be bothered to really try. I'm leaving this channel as they expect too much without putting real effort in. Shame.
Well the trash comes from the sea. It’s dirty because people throw trash to water and leave their own trash which is either taken by the sea or stays there. Instead you could help the planet a little and pick up some trash. Travel with some bags to help clean such places. Those resorts can do that also but as humans who want to live on Earth and get our children better perspectives we can also do that 😊
I subscribed because I'm sick and tired of youtubers telling fibs about how wonderful everything is. You told it like it is. You've gained my trust. I look forward to checking out more videos on your channel. Thank you!
Hi!! Thank you! Yes! Se really want to make it real! It happens a lot you go with a very high expectation and then it’s not exactly what you thought it would be! But … Koh tao … you should go!!!
I went there because of cruise ship stop. Koh Samui is busy and Taxi is very expensive comparing to the mainland. Went to Four Seasons Koh Samui for lunch. Very beautiful place.
Unfortunately the beach on the East part of Koh Samui received the dirties from the sea half of the year whereas the West cost is nicer. I hope the government have seen your video to take care of this problem. Sorry that you didn't try the other part of the island which is pretty nice and quiet. Also you miss plenty of nice view point that are not tourist attractions, nice temples and so many things.
Good tips to know. It seems like i would satisfy at the vibes around there rather than Phuket, where I was concerning which one to go btw them. Your video clip helped my decision.
How’s the weather there in December? Is that when you were there? I have been reading that it can still be raining in Koh Samui in December and I’m planning to spend the last two weeks of December in Thailand.
Thanks for the video! I see your comment towards the end saying you recommend staying on the north part of the island. But I didn’t see you travel anywhere on the south part of the island. Why do you recommend the north part? I have a upcoming stay on the very south part at a nice resort, so I am just curious your perspective.
We went as well to the south part and we prefer the north as we felt it was less crowded. But if you are going into a nice resort it is always a different experience. Enjoy your stay!
Taxis are controlled by a mafia on Samui (also on Phuket), and foreigners always have to pay rip-off prices. There is no Uber/Grab/Bolt, when they started to operate they were intimidated out of the market by the taxi mafia. Songthaew drivers are also intimidated by the taxi mafia so they are very reluctant to pick up foreigners for the "bus" price - that has been my experience for several years, although some people seem to disagree. If you are staying on Samui for any length of time and want to get around you must hire a scooter (not very safe) or a car.
Hi! You do need an international driving license to drive in Thailand. But no one asked in Koh Samui and no problem with the police. We got a find in Phuket though.
@@mennyossi I would get an international driving license. I got stopped by Thai police riding a scooter. They took my license (which showed I have a valid motorcycle permit). After 4 trips to the police station, 5 days wasted time, after I paid the ticket first day. They finally “found” my drivers license. And I speak Thai. Good luck if you don’t speak Thai.
I've been there last may. I had an international motorcycle driving license but have not got stopped by the Thai police officers not even once. Sorry for your story and wasted time...@@GotoHere
Now, this might be due to the language barrier: but please dont call a beach 'not so beautiful' just because the Sand isn't perfectly white. That just comes off as disrespectful. Also the trash is there because of rainy season. Storms bring in garbage from the sea so much it doesnt make sense to clean it up until you get to dry season. And also, tourism is a big part of why the beaches and sea are polluted. So please also keep that in mind.
Thanks for your input. January is actually high season and not rainy season anymore. But probably the trash came from the rainy season and nobody cleaned it up. The beaches in Koh tao were much cleaner and we went there right after Koh Samui. But I am sure that the beaches can be very beautiful when the weather is perfect!
Thank you for this surprisingly candid appraisal. I will be sure to lower my expectations. Any recommendations for where to get authentic Thai food in Koh Samui?
I live in Koh Samui for 20 years so I can tell you that the beaches are 80% of the year without any trash and in December 2022 there was a lot of storms and rain which brought in a lot of trash from out at sea. Unfortunately for you guys, it was bad timing.
@@alexanderagranov1292 Best time to visit is between December Christmas time to April 15. And the best month for perfect weather temperature and tides is February.
