To keep your composure, to keep a smile on your face, when things are going awry is indicative of a strong mind and spirit. Good on ya Matt. Not sure I've ever been more impressed with someone who put up a high-80s score. You're a solid guy and we love ya for it.
So, the coffin bunker looks like a good time. Haha! Matt being a really good player, I can only imagine that I'd still be attempting to get out of it! What impresses me the most about you Matt, is how well you keep your wits about you when things start going wrong. Most of us would let it completely ruin our round at such a beautiful course. I know there is obviously frustration but you don't allow yourself to get "physically" mad and let it affect your round like most of us amateurs would! More than anything, watching your videos has taught me to stay calm because golf is hard!
Loved this Matty. I was fortunate to play there in July with my Mum. I was desperate to hit the Postage Stamp green but like you I hit the Coffin Bunker! I was so close to the lip that I didn't have a back swing and when I asked the caddie 'how do you play this?' he just laughed and shrugged his shoulders - will never forget it. I got out in 2 but I don't have your putting ability. Keep these up - there are some amazing courses to share with the viewers.
Budddddy....you keep your spirt up and make it to the finish line....well done. YES, without question, Royal Troon is a stunning course than will make you love it and at the same time tear your heart out. This surly was not your finest round, but WHAT a course to play and the memories that you have from it. I HOPE one day, I get to walk those grounds!
Thanks for posting this Vlog Matt. Your maintenance of composure and dignity under pressure was a wonderful example of what many of us strive for. (and not always successfully).
Thank you for a very entertaining round, all the invigorating commentary and humor. You’re a great player it’s just the course that is brutal. Look forward to more of your great videos!
I'm sure everyone watching that coffin bunker episode was feeling your pain, Matt. Yet, on another level, such features make a course. Having that challenge demanded of you adds to the experience of the day. Great vlog, enjoyed every minute of it.
Other coastal courses I highly recommend are Stranraer, Portpatrick, Wigtownshire and St Medan's in deepest SW Scotland, such a beautiful if underrated area.
dont worry matthew , you are still a better golfer than shiels ...lol ...and its tough playing a course like that first time ...i appreciate the honest and rawness of sharing it all with us ...could have just moved to another course and called it episode 2 and come back here another time but this is golf sometimes ...like life its how you deal with the bad that defines you and coming through with a smile is why you are one of the best .....that and i REALLY appreciate how genuinely appreciative of being able to play such course ...especially because i never will your humble and reverent approach is pure gold ...thanks for being matt fryer :)
Several videos back, Tubes asked if "Matty" is something anyone calls you and you replied that no one does, not even yourself. Following videos..."c'mon Matty" hits about a dozen times! lol I just wanted to have something to say because you entertain me so well. Keep swinging away!
That looked pretty tough - you can see why the course is used for The Open. Fair play to you Matt for keeping your composure; can't have been. As for The Coffin: I'd still be in there doing a new version of The Hamlet cigar advert.
Wow, that brought back memories. We were the first game out on Royal Troon after the Open in '89, Monday 6am. Front 9 was downwind, back 9 into. Got to the turn in 34, turned into the wind and started back 10 on the 10th, 12 on the 11th 🤦♂!! Finished with a 54 on the back 9 for 88 😂!! One of the all time great golf courses, but exactly as you said, any errors get properly punished. Great content Matt, thanks 👍.
Really feel for you Matt, after your start I was expecting great things, but this is golf after all. Great content as always, I am sure in the next round / blog you will be back to your best with back to back birdies and eagles. Keep it coming 👍
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for the best laugh I've had in a long time. Your escapades in the coffin bunker were priceless. I've been there and how you kept yourself from pounding your club in the ground I'll never know.
Really felt for you when your round got derailed by this nasty coffin bunker. Great job keeping your head up even though things only got worse after that. Looking forward to the next episode!
Gene Sarazen at 70 played the Postage Stamp twice - got a 1 and (the followiing day) a 2 (holing from a bunker!). This is the hardest course I've ever played - the back 9 had eight holes right into the wind & rain. But Matt you kept your commentator's cool though you did tell us all about those moments of pain. Recommend a round at Western Gailes - a great design
I do love how you appreciate the life you have too Matt. What a great place to play golf! Best of luck for your other break Pars. Check out the Darley course too!
I played in howling gale and rain. 7 from the coffin bunker, like woods. That hole is so narrow with a 40mph left to right wind. I was scratch to Plus 4. Scored a he'll of a lot!
Great start Matt. Glad to see you kept your cool under pressure and enjoyed yourself nonetheless. Some great bogey recovery shots in there too. Next time I go to Scotland I definitely want to try that one out. But I'll need to work on my bunker play first apparently!
Love this video Matt. Mr Carter playing with you too, loving his content since returning to the UK. Would love to see a video with you both, Pete and Rick.
Absolutely loving this series as it brings back so many great memories. Ayreshire is a fabulous area with many, many great courses. Hopefully see the Darly or Lochgreen. 👍👍
I know it wasn't the score you wanted matt but I have absolutely loved this 18 hole vlog on a course I'll be lucky to ever play. Please do more of these for us because it's made absolutely fascinating watching. 18 hole vlogs on courses are what we want to see. Feel free to get Carter involved for one of these. Who cares if it's a 1 hour video? Extra free golf!
Feel for you Matt, had one of those days this weekend too with a few holes that ruined the score. At least you enjoyed the walk around though, looked gorgeous out there. On to the next!
Matt your striking is so good we are glad your not on tour or we would miss this. like the videos keep this going , i watched a video from JAMES ROBINSON in DALLAS on a 9 HOLE COURSE with 2nd hand clubs the greens were a laugh , like putt rolled to the hole was just short and ran away , have you ever played a course like that.
Lucky to have played it maybe 5/6 times. I can confirm it has the toughest back 9 of any course I have ever played. And that is a hell of a lot here and abroad. It is brutal and usually always in the wind all the way home. 😮
I had a laugh at your expense on the coffen hole. Another great vblog from you and your team. One thing though can you put your playing partner(s) score on screen
wow dude Holy cow. This reminds me of a course I played for one of my budd birthdays. It was Glen Ivy in California. That place is narrow and hard. If you go out of the fairway its out of bounds most of the time. There was bushes and random trees center of the fairway as well. I was constantly hitting from penalty boxes.
Great video Matt shame about the score, you can’t win them all. The production quality of the video and all the different angles were superb really enjoyable watching, showed Royal Troon in all its glory! Keep up the amazing work, I’m sure you’ll beat the course next time you play it.
I feel your pain, was -1 through 6, played the last 3 in -1 under.... shot 6 over. Postage stamp puts doubt in your mind then the into out of the left wind wrecks a spinny ball coming home.
Just wondering if it was distracting to have the bagpipes concert 🎶 playing while teeing off on the 1st hole? And was that Andy Carter playing the bagpipes?
Instead of keeping score, just revel in the beauty of the course, the set up, your rescues, magnificent greens n the gorse !! When I get the chance to play a course above my talent level, no scores just enjoyment !
As painful as it was to watch the struggle it was also encouraging to see the struggle. We'd all love to be consistent and shoot level par, or better, but seeing someone that is capable of hitting level par struggle to hit in the mid 80's makes it more relatable. When it's not your day it's, it's not your day. And seeing your frustration and non-verbals "scream" trying to pinpoint what's wrong in your game when nothing perhaps "feels" especially off was insightful.
Was in Troon today not golfing just a spot of lunch with my wife. Their municipal courses are top class I play them often it’s only a 45 minute drive from Glasgow motorway all the way.
Great video Matt, the course looks amazing - and terrifying!😆 Some of those holes, I don't even know how you would go about playing them! Crazy how you were playing well and a couple of slight misses just killed you. Unlucky dude, keep up the great videos though 👏🏻👏🏻 Just out of interest, how did Carter get on?
Wow. Tough day at the office. If the putter had been on your side you could have knocked 6 or 7 shots off easy. Hopefully things can only get better now. Course looked amazing mind.
It’s a pleasure watching you play I had to have a chuckle when you were in the coffin bunker but you kept calm the sun would have been going down bye the time I got out of there. It was still a reasonable score that most people would be delighted with in the end What did your playing partner finish with I’m looking forward to your next one in Ayrshire 🥃🥃
aye the coffin sorts the men from the boys, luckily last time I played Troon I decided to hit out to the front of thee green from roughly where your ball was lying after tee shot. ended up with a 5 after 3 putting.
I know it was brutal but you kept plugging away so well done matt. I would love to play Royal Troon. I would need 50 balls and lots of alot of good luck but would be great.
Fair play to you Matt, coulda just not bothered posting this… it’s all about levels as you know,I’d love to go round RT with the score you just posted 🤷♂️😁👍🏻
Oh my gosh, guys. I'm trooning out! I'm gonna TROOOOOON!
To keep your composure, to keep a smile on your face, when things are going awry is indicative of a strong mind and spirit. Good on ya Matt. Not sure I've ever been more impressed with someone who put up a high-80s score. You're a solid guy and we love ya for it.
I shot 87 a couple of weeks ago and was walking on clouds for about a week. It's all relative.
That’s no arran ffs that’s the heads of ayr ,,arrans now where close to that 😂

That was one of the most brutal bunker escapes UA-cam has ever seen! Great content as always Mr Fryer
I love hearing Andy pissing himself while Matt’s building sandcastles.
Thank you for a very entertaining round, all the invigorating commentary and humor. You’re a great player it’s just the course that is brutal. Look forward to more of your great videos!

12:57 'this is your chance to hit a great shot' - best laugh I had all day 😂
Keep going Matt. Your frailties gives us all hope. It's like a chess game around Troon. You'll be back! Paul, Scotland
dont worry matthew , you are still a better golfer than shiels ...lol ...and its tough playing a course like that first time ...i appreciate the honest and rawness of sharing it all with us ...could have just moved to another course and called it episode 2 and come back here another time but this is golf sometimes ...like life its how you deal with the bad that defines you and coming through with a smile is why you are one of the best .....that and i REALLY appreciate how genuinely appreciative of being able to play such course ...especially because i never will your humble and reverent approach is pure gold ...thanks for being matt fryer :)
I laughed waaaaay to hard at your the coffin bunker experience 😂 great vlog, course looked stunning!

A great example of taking it in stride! Much respect for keeping with it, even when it wasn't your day!
Thank you for the video! That bunker was priceless! Brutal, but lived to play another day! I watch everyone of your videos and enjoy them all
This video shows how critical good driving is.... well done Matt. Great look at a famous and beautiful course.
Wow that's a great hole. Never had that perspective of the postage stamp and the coffin bunker. Great job Matt
Really feel for you Matt, after your start I was expecting great things, but this is golf after all. Great content as always, I am sure in the next round / blog you will be back to your best with back to back birdies and eagles. Keep it coming 👍
And it was going SO smooth. Great job keeping your exterior composure because I’m sure you snapped your wedge in your mind after the coffin bunker.
Andy’s face @20:25 kind of summed up the video 😅😅😬. Enjoyed ever second still! 👏🏽 great quality btw!!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for the best laugh I've had in a long time. Your escapades in the coffin bunker were priceless. I've been there and how you kept yourself from pounding your club in the ground I'll never know.

Beautiful golf course, well played Matt, really decent round except for about 5 holes, loved watching it, special part of the world.
You never gave up. It could have been worse. We have all been there. Can't wait for the next video.
Videos like this really show how the tour pros are playing a completely different game to every other golfer out there
The bunker at 12:30 looks like a slit trench from WW2
And fun to watch you try and get out - LOL! Hilarious!
I played in howling gale and rain. 7 from the coffin bunker, like woods. That hole is so narrow with a 40mph left to right wind. I was scratch to Plus 4. Scored a he'll of a lot!

Love the “new” Matt, lots of positive vibes👌👌 golf is brutal 🙈 keep pushing 💪
Lucky enough to have played RT a few times. I think the course really starts at 5. Then the fun begins!
Absolutely loving this series as it brings back so many great memories. Ayreshire is a fabulous area with many, many great courses. Hopefully see the Darly or Lochgreen. 👍👍
Going right around my local area, Ayrshire. Keep them coming 👍Dundonald and Turnberry next?
I know it wasn't the score you wanted matt but I have absolutely loved this 18 hole vlog on a course I'll be lucky to ever play. The Coffin Bunker was only a foot deep when they built it. Everyone taking 4 shots to escape now it's 3ft deep :D
Great video Matt.
imagine in another 100 years it will be 10ft deep...
Lucky to have played it maybe 5/6 times. I can confirm it has the toughest back 9 of any course I have ever played. And that is a hell of a lot here and abroad. It is brutal and usually always in the wind all the way home. 😮
I'm so jealous!
@@Reffitt2 yeh had a friend who was a member paid £10 to sign on. So lucky for those opportunities.
Matt I'd love to see you tackle this course again! I reckon now that you've played it once, you'll have a better crack at getting in the red!
Maybe playing from the red tees you mean? 😏
Your worst round is equal to my best…welcome to my golf game…loved the coffin bunker play…nasty!
I had a laugh at your expense on the coffen hole. Another great vblog from you and your team. One thing though can you put your playing partner(s) score on screen
Great video. 👍 golf is a brutal but wonderful game! Looks a great course. Keep up the good work 👏
wow dude Holy cow. This reminds me of a course I played for one of my budd birthdays. It was Glen Ivy in California. That place is narrow and hard. If you go out of the fairway its out of bounds most of the time. There was bushes and random trees center of the fairway as well. I was constantly hitting from penalty boxes.
That swing just looks so simple and easy. Irons...driver...all look so simple easy
Great video Matt shame about the score, you can’t win them all. The production quality of the video and all the different angles were superb really enjoyable watching, showed Royal Troon in all its glory! Keep up the amazing work, I’m sure you’ll beat the course next time you play it.
Tremendous putt on 9 after your horror show in the bunker there Matt, great vid, very enjoyable, keep 'em coming ⛳️🏌♂️👍👍
I feel your pain, was -1 through 6, played the last 3 in -1 under.... shot 6 over. Postage stamp puts doubt in your mind then the into out of the left wind wrecks a spinny ball coming home.
Hi Matt love this series of links videos, keep it up!
The other side of the railway line is Darley, a wonderful public course. Oh and two others...
Just wondering if it was distracting to have the bagpipes concert 🎶 playing while teeing off on the 1st hole? And was that Andy Carter playing the bagpipes?
The initial optimism on the coffin bunker shot was excellent.
Instead of keeping score, just revel in the beauty of the course, the set up, your rescues, magnificent greens n the gorse !! When I get the chance to play a course above my talent level, no scores just enjoyment !
That’s one of those rounds where I’d laugh, cry and get angry 😂
The way Matt says "Oh Jesus" after going in the coffin bunker like he knew what was coming after. Lol.
My favourite Open was Stenson vs Phil. Amazing battle. Such a high standard of golf.
I guess Andy wasn’t allowed to say something. 😮😂
Great video Matt.
You are a good golfer - but I sympathise with the played 13 holes well, but 5 card wreckers; happens to me all the time!
As painful as it was to watch the struggle it was also encouraging to see the struggle. Loved playing here last week, unbelievable venue, coffin bunker was great fun to be in 🤣🤣
Such beautiful courses over there. Thanks for the video, Coach!
Loving the series Matt. Thanks for the consistently stellar content.
Thank you so much that you are "alone" in the video, the other guy is a nuisance. 👍🏽
A Legend Playing the course and another Legend filming
IMHO score doesn't matter that much when you have the chance to play the courses you're playing. Looking forward to the next one.
I was pointing to your left when I saw your ball in the coffin. That being said, I would have gone the flop out as well :D
Hi matt loving the red videos keep up the good work and I can't wait until the next one ⛳👍
Was in Troon today not golfing just a spot of lunch with my wife. Their municipal courses are top class I play them often it’s only a 45 minute drive from Glasgow motorway all the way.
The postage stamp bunker shot - should have just ensured it got out the first time even if it's not close to the hole.
Great video Matt, the course looks amazing - and terrifying!😆 Some of those holes, I don't even know how you would go about playing them!
Crazy how you were playing well and a couple of slight misses just killed you.
Unlucky dude, keep up the great videos though 👏🏻👏🏻
Just out of interest, how did Carter get on?
I want a series on “The most Iconic bunkers in golf” - with tips on how to approach them.
Wow. Tough day at the office. If the putter had been on your side you could have knocked 6 or 7 shots off easy. Hopefully things can only get better now. Course looked amazing mind.
That's the game.
Giveth with one hand, and taketh with the other. Always a next time to get "In The Red"
Really want to see the quartet get together again for some course vlogs now that you’ll all back in the UK
Love this series! Can we try a new top tracer skills comp too?!?
Cheers
lovely composure...beautiful course cheers 👌
One course that I will take off my bucket list. I would still be out there in the dark with 15 holes still to play!
It’s a pleasure watching you play I had to have a chuckle when you were in the coffin bunker but you kept calm the sun would have been going down bye the time I got out of there. It was still a reasonable score that most people would be delighted with in the end
What did your playing partner finish with
I’m looking forward to your next one in Ayrshire 🥃🥃
Some days you never see the rough others you it takes 4 to get out the bunker that’s just the joys of golf.
I simply have to do a golf vacation in Scotland. It would be a dream to spend a summer golfing all those amazing courses.
Welcome to the world of “normal golf”. Great vlog 👍. Thanks Matt
Wonder course. The 3-4 hole brain fart: now you’re playing MY game, Matt! Love this series!
aye the coffin sorts the men from the boys, luckily last time I played Troon I decided to hit out to the front of thee green from roughly where your ball was lying after tee shot. ended up with a 5 after 3 putting.
I almost turned off at the first tee … first rule of UA-cam, always driver! 😂
Good honest round Matt. Unlucky with a few lies and putts. 👍🏼
I know it was brutal but you kept plugging away so well done matt. I would love to play Royal Troon. I would need 50 balls and lots of alot of good luck but would be great.
That was a relatable video.😄👏👏
Nice video Matt. Thanks.
that coffin bunker! LORD!!!
Beautiful golf course I'd love to go to Scotland one day . Ps should of put a gopro in the coffin bunker camra spot lol
Matt, great video thanks. However to be a bit of a pedant, we have ‘bunkers’ on our golf courses not traps....😂
👍keep it in the red,
Plus Andy Carter on the mic 🎤 👌
Loved it, course looked amazing.
Fair play to you Matt, coulda just not bothered posting this… it’s all about levels as you know,I’d love to go round RT with the score you just posted 🤷♂️😁👍🏻
Man I tell you you guys have so many beautiful courses over there we have nothing like that
