- In this video, we take you behind the scenes of the historic North Wilkesboro Speedway's paving project. It's a look at the paving work in progress.
Witness the contractor Summers-Taylor from Johnson City, Tennessee, in action as they give North Wilkesboro Speedway a fresh racing surface. The pavement contractor for the original and 1981 paving, Carl Rose and Sons, provided the asphalt, and Dale Rose, who operated a paving machine during the 1981 re-pave, visited the site and engaged with today's workers.
The old pavement was in dire need of repair due to the wear and tear from racing action, and Speedway Motorsports made the decision to ensure great competition by opting for a complete re-pave at a cost of just under $1million.
Want to hear more about the process and insights from Steve Swift, the Speedway Motorsports official in charge of the re-pave? Click on the video link at the end of this one to listen to his perspective. Stay tuned for a deeper dive into the North Wilkesboro Speedway's rejuvenation!
There was alot of history on that old pavement
Thanks Chris For The Video Great Job
Ok glad to see that there laying new asphalt
Im from massachusetts and we were excited to get a nascar date for Loudon but not at the expense of this track.Im sure a date could have been added if they tried.I knew this was the short sightedness of Nascar by alienating us true short track racing enthusiasts. We had and have had all nearby Riverside park, stafford and thompson which kinda reminded me of this place a little.high banked 5/8 mile with two grooves.love watching the mods here.so glad they brought this track back to glory!
And PAVE the campground. For the camper’s And RV’S.
WOW 3 transfer machines feeding 2 pavers that is really impressive.
Well it's about time',, i use to run on that tract years ago. never understood why they closed it down to begin with,
Good job Chris I enjoy the video.
Going to be interesting.
Hopefully it improves things.
Nice
And Dave moody has said for the last 10yrs that this track would never return
I would really like to see how they relate Daytona or Tellegaga.
I'm not understanding why there are so many machines that hop (convey) the asphalt from the Dump-truck to the actual Paving machine. Can someone explain to me why the Dump-truck can't just back-up to the Paving machine?
Good question; Because they're paving 2 lanes at once side-by-side and have the extra machines feeding new asphalt across and over the inside line to the machines on the outside lane. This process is called eschelon paving and bonds the two lanes together with a hot joint that won't separate later in the life of the surface and end up needing that messing seam filler you see on old tracks. It's explained in this other video - the link starts with at the point where he explains it but there's a lot more in the whole video - ua-cam.com/video/qR_ucVdVvnU/v-deo.htmlsi=PzUjehUD105o60s6&t=625
👍😀
It's going to be a one groove race track now, only bump and run, like dale ser like it
They need to make the track wider.
At 1:25 look at the guy's underarm sweat😮must be pretty hot?
It was a warm day and he had bee out by the hot asphalt machines. He also may be the hardest working SVP at Speedway Motorsports.
What a dumb thing to do BECAUSE ALL OF THEM OTHER'S OLD DRIVERS BACK IN THE 1960 1970,1980
Dale Jr. Ain't going to like this
It was his idea 😂
@@piedmontrailfan81 My Bad.
