    That is a very easy driveway to pave. Straight, plenty of pitch, no walls on either side. You did a lot of things right. Seems like you are on the right track. Tamp shoes are a must. You will wear out a lot of screeds on your paver using it to grade gravel. We were a small outfit back in the day and we used to do two like these in a day and maybe get a third graded. We also did all of our driveways in two coats, binder and top. Good luck to you.

    Beautiful work!
    3:16 Is there a way to keep from chucking out the adjacent / street asphalt?
    That drive looked to be about 20 x 120 or 2400 sf
    - 4 loads of old asphalt out
    - one load, or 12 tons, of stone in for leveling
    - 35 tons of hma in, 2.5" compacted to 2"
    Customer cost: $7200 to $9600 US
    Do drives generally sink first at garage slab cause ya can't get your roller close?

    • @asphaltcontractors
      @asphaltcontractors  8 місяців тому +1

      no, usually the driveway always separates at existing foundations or where it meets the road. A lot of times we will put tar where it meets the road and the end of the new asphalt to help keep that from hap.pening but around the house or objects you can't really do much about that.

      @@asphaltcontractors so it's not actually gravel as a base. I'm in the process of building a new driveway, literally brand new (no driveway there before). I want to use the correct base material so next year when I hire a Asphalt company to come in that they don't have to remove anything and hopefully they can just lay the asphalt down or at the work add to the base first and they pave it. I don't want to put a gravel base in that will cause more work in the end. The base material is Crushed stone? or something called 2a modified?

    have a contractor that has a paver that lays down the asphalt, and while the paver is sitting in my driveway waiting for the rain to stop, I notice a layer of oil in the bed of the paver where the asphalt is going to be. Is this going to create a problem for the asphalt to asphalt to adhere to itself and maintian a quality layer?

    • @asphaltcontractors
      @asphaltcontractors  Рік тому +1

      no, if you are talking about diesel fuel, any paving company uses that to lubricate either tools or the paver to keep the blacktop from sticking to it. Does not hurt the Asphalt because it is a petroleum-based product.

    I seen some conractors use ground up/recycled asphalt that was pulled up from other work sites. Instead of using crushed stone or other aggregate, they use this reclaimed asphalt. Is this an alternate way of putting down a base for new asphalt to sit on? I use to deliver construction materials of all kinds, and every job site that waited to get my turn to unload, I watched dump truck after dump truck, unload stone. My question pertains to residential building, not commecial. Great site by the way.
