All legends. Chuck may not do many podcasts/interviews but when he does it is all more special. Thanks Dave and team for putting this chat together. And thanks to all participants to let us mere mortals a glimpse into your experience at Westside.
What these guys are giving in this episode alone is enormous. Some of these are much lesser heard voices. God bless all of them. Dave - thanks for sharing the platform with these guys.
I have a 2 hour drive to my lifting partners house later, can't wait to listen to this on the way up and back, thanks EliteFTS for all that you do for the lifting community!
@@Bret_Frost he is my best friend from high school, we both have home gyms, but we text multiple times a day from lifting to life and career. I get to go up there ~4x a year and we always have great training sessions and try and peak to PR then too. He got me into lifting 5 years ago when we were 37 and the bug bit me from day one. Great guy, raising great kids, and we both have the most supportive wives! Loved the listen up and back, especially about having someone who is like a brother and as passionate about pushing each other and the other person's success!
16:55. Kenny Patterson-“Yeah I don’t claim to be a big squatter, but when my squat went up to 881 that’s when I started training up in Cleveland.” Dude eight HUNDRED-EIGHTY-ONE pounds is astronomical 😂😂😂
In multiply terms 881 at the level of these guys is low I mean most guys at that level are squatting well over a thousand regularly. Every time I've squatted with one of my training partners when he is in process of circumax is well over a thousand pounds sometimes 1100. But what Kenny lacked in squat he obviously made up for in bench!!
This is so awesome for somebody like myself who is an equipped lifter. For me to hear guys like this talk about lifting and also equipment is awesome!!
I know Dave doesn’t drink, but this is the kind of thing where you sit back, drink your beer and just listen and try and take all the knowledge in spoken by those who have been there and done it. Mouth shut, ears and eyes open. Thank you.
It must have been hard to get Chuck on the podcast. He does not seem like the kind of guy that likes to sit and chat too much, especially in front of an audience.
Chuck has been putting out a little bit of content on IG which is cool... maybe he'll start gettin more comfortable and embrace passing on his knowledge like the late great Mountaindog
This podcast is awesome Dave. Thank you for doing this. I was all about Elite FTS in 07-2012. I was in the Navy and had a monster friend that got me into powerlifting. I had no idea what I was doing, and only later realized I was training like a geared lifter, but whatever, I got stronger. I always dreamed of an elite total, but that wasn't in the cards. I still love powerlifting though. It's so cool to hear these old stories from the best ever.
Is it just me , chuck looked like he was gonna kill something . Lmfao the intensity in his face and body movement is extremely intense. Fucking Legend Freak 🙏
That comment on loving to strain. I've tried to explain this to people that there is something neurological that happens, and some people truly get something very positive from it. I don't know if it's an endorphin thing or what it is, but I tried to walk away after very bad spine deterioration only to come back about two years later and start up again (far more technical and healthy approach) primarily due to that feeling of being under heavy weight.
What an amazing old man chat about the younger days. I mean that in the most positive way I can. Some serious knowledge and lessons in this. No preaching just sharing experiences. No ones got an ego. No ones bigging themselves up or talking over anyone else. Some real bonded gents who shared an experience you can tell. Best of health to you all. Most enjoyable podcast I've listened to this year.
Honestly I think that would be hard to do, just because he’s clearly not that comfortable on camera unless he’s got a few people he knows or is friends with like he did with the west side podcast. Don’t get me wrong that would be fucking awesome to have him come back on.
If you have never seen Chuck Vogelpohl squat in competition you have no idea what Focus commitment and intensity is! The videos are good but to be within a few feet of him on the platform is to feel what I can only describe as violent Waves of intensity!
Most impressive thing: WHO squatted 1100lb? I've listened about 30 times and I can't make out the name 🤦🏼♂️ to y'all it might be obvious but I have no idea who these people are, so I can't wrap my head around what's his name. Somesome kagen? Kaugen?
Is there a sense of privilege or pride that comes with having been a part of this group with the shared experience of being in this crew? Knowing that you’re such a select few that’s been able to experience this, and nobody will ever be able to experience it again?
@strongmansam289 to answer your question very simplistically, yes. Being a part of this group to me is like being a Super Bowl Winner, it's something that no one can ever take away from you.
First we had Chuck on the Westside Podcast, now this one. This has been the best month for podcasts!
2 chuck appearances and 2 chuck disappearances!
@@MeanBob_Games haha. Well he did the entire westside podcast
@@MeanBob_Games I’ll take whatever Chuck I can get!

This is so f’n cool. Westside inspired everything we did including Bigger Stronger Faster*
Appreciate your work, my man!

I’d like to see Kirk Karwoski on an episode 👍
Same!
Good luck getting him on, he's become very private
Duuuude yes
@@aa7x3why? Interesting

Chuck on TableTalk...YES!!! This is what I've been waiting for!
I have never been so excited for a podcast, chuck is finally in the house 💪💪

Haha its just silly isn't it, how far apart they were from *normal* people
It's all relative. Compared to his partners, they wasn't a world record level squat so it wasn't shit
In multiply terms 881 at the level of these guys is low I mean most guys at that level are squatting well over a thousand regularly. Every time I've squatted with one of my training partners when he is in process of circumax is well over a thousand pounds sometimes 1100.

Chuck just seems so genuine. It’s funny how he’s so intense he’s always moving around even when he’s just sitting there.
The pride of being a part of what they did is undeniable. Dave and Chuck especially.
The experiences and knowledge you guys had there will never be duplicated.
Can’t believe this is happening! Been waiting on this group of guys. Thanks Dave!

Missed this live, glad to be able to watch it back now.

This is solid gold. So many legends. Favorite episode so far.
Great to see these guys are still friends and sharing their stories.

I LOVED this! Glory days revisited, stories told of those no longer with us, legends enjoying cigars around a table shooting the shit.
So glad this happened, infinite source of knowledge and experiences
Great job!
So what's planned for Episode 225? 315? 405?
I see what you did there😂

Solid racing. I couldn’t believe the gap in Glasgow, impressive way to start off!
Terrific 💯😊 👍 Thank you gentlemen ..fascinating memories n stories !! On On !!
This is great. Even with as much wisdom and experience there is at this table, it's still old buddies just bullshitting and reminiscing.
These stories are awesome, thanks for sharing!
GOAT EPISODE!!!

Thank you Dave for these podcasts.
I'm only 30 mins I but I already know I'm going to listen to this at least 3 times this year

All Legends right there
2 most exciting lifters ever,
1. Ed Coan
2. Chuck V.
If u never saw Chuck lift you have no idea what intensity is.
Heavy hitters!
People don’t realize the legends that are talking here.
If only Matt Wenning and Mark Bell were at that table...
Great episode non-the-less!

Why did Chuck leave?
Edit: Why did he leave the Table Talk early?
The first time is talked about in Westside vs The World, check it out and support it. The second time was his retirement from what I know.
