    Ive been doing medical billing and coding for 3 years. I did a year of online school through CareerStep but did not get my coding certificate but I did graduate so it helped make my resume pretty lol. I started working from home January 2022 which was my goal! I spent two years working hard to learn the "language". My goal is to have my own company that is based at home and create a program for single parents to start with no experience needed and be trained by me. Great career!

I loved when I could get equipment for our patients paid for but on the flip side was very frustrated when the surgery and device were approved but the daily supplies to use the device was routinely denied. I also worked and seriously enjoyed my time as a ER unit secretary (about 15 years) but now it is time to complete my CPC training. I know that I just want to stick to the coding side of the business. Thankfully I have some great mentors. I am an empty nester that wants a bit of a career change.

Unless you know someone you can trust who says their certificate is accepted by employers. It will take just like 2 years. But it depends on the school you go to. In a community college, or any college, there are usually counselors who can guide you through the process. Good luck!

    Thanks for this video..I have the RHIT, CCS, CPC but am not really loving coding as much as I thought. I'm more interested in the claims and revenue cycle side. Now just trying to figure if I can get hired with my above certifications to become a biller and get on job training or should I get another certification in billing.

      Unless you’ve already taken a medical terminology and anatomy course, I would recommend doing that before doing the pre prep course on AAPC, they also recommend that you do that as well.

      I can if it's okay that I don't really show much of the book when I talk about it. Since it's copyrighted I can't show substantial portions.
      Would it be helpful if I did a video on the 2021 book and did sort of a "work along" and turn to this page and that page and explained the layout of the book verbally?

    Hi there! I'm new to the world of coding and billing and have opted for a career change. I purchased the bundle coding and billing from the AAPC. How do I go about it? Where do I start? I've been at the coding portion for well over a couple of months and now feel as if I have neglected the billing portion. What do you suggest?

      You're welcome! Yes, medical billers are primarily responsible for submitting claims and following up to ensure payment is collected from insurance companies for healthcare services provided. Your accounting experience will be a valuable asset in this field!

    Do medical billers call "customers" or "patients" or do they just call insurance companies? My personality would fit more into a Medical Coder from what you explained, but it seems like you have to be a Medical Biller first ..right? I am trying to go into a different field/career where I don't have to be on the phone as much. I have been trying for the past 5 years or so to get into a "back-end" type of job that does not require me to be on the phone. For the past 13 years of my life I have been in 4 different jobs where I am basically customer service and I HATE IT!

    I’ve worked in claims for an insurance company for 20 years. I’m looking into taking a course , and possibly changing careers. What do you recommend to start with? Billing or coding ?
    I’m hoping my years in an insurance company will help with a new job once certified.

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  3 роки тому +9

      It really depends on where your interests are. Do you want to work with the insurance companies following up on denials or do you want to work with reading medical records and converting them into codes. The pay is a lot better in coding, but it's often easier to start with medical billing.

    What kind of math do you use in the billing and coding jobs and do you need a degree?

    • @ContempoCoding
      @ContempoCoding  3 роки тому +11

      You don't need a degree, but a lot of coders still like to have the safety net of having a diploma or an associate's. There's some occasional addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication but nothing major.

    Is it ok to become CPB certified if you haven’t worked in a medical billing position before? I currently work in a patient registration job and didn’t know whether to go ahead with the AAPC online course or wait until I have experience working in a medical billing position?
    I’ve also heard some people say CPB certification isn’t necessary because you will learn everything on the job but I figured it would make one a more marketable candidate. What are your thoughts on this?
