I played Final Girl several times in May; I never get tired of that game! I also tried the solo mode of Libertalia: Winds of Galecrest, and I liked it a lot. I'll definitely be going back to that one.

A Wayfare's Tale reminded me of another solo game I have been playing: Dungeon Pages.

Your content is very solid! Really enjoyed the video. I started playing solo last month and was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I played Expeditions (the sequel to scythe). Wow. The Automa is sooo easy to use and works excellently well.
    Cheers!

Wayfarer's tale is a great little game! This reminds me I should do another campaign of it soon 😁
If you're looking for more solo deduction, Turing Machine is solid

I remember seeing Wayfarers Tale and really wanting it just by the looks. Now after hearing you discuss it a bit I think I’m gonna need it 😂 Looks cool!

Highly recommend the Crisis expansion for Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition, because it adds so much to the solo mode and also a great co-op mode.
Discovery is compatible to Crisis. It adds upgraded cards and is also very fun.
Foundation is unfortunately not compatible with Crisis and adds mostly 5-6 player material. So basically you could just skip it unless you really want to play with more than 4 players.

ROVE is my first Button Shy Game and it is amazing, there are few expansions for ROVE, one collection of 3 different expansions, 1 that has new modules (brain 2.0, motor 2.0 etc) with different one time abilities that you can mix and match, and another 6 cards expansion that gives you new patterns to make and have "refresh" of the one time abilities if you have the module in a certain pattern when playing the card. I found out that some of the expansions are making the game way harder for me and some make it a bit easier, regardless I love both ROVE and the expansions! Indeed a great game!

Within the last month or so I’ve played Nusfjord, Ark Nova, Legacy of Yu, and Gloomhaven solo.
Legacy of Yu is interesting. It had a great first impression despite my first couple games taking almost two hours. After a couple more games I figured out a winning strategy/play pattern and, with that and the consolation from losing two of my first three games, the game became trivially easy and mechanical around halfway through the campaign. I got the game length down to around 40-45 mins towards the end of the campaign but I only finished out the campaign for the sake of completion, the last couple games were just going through the motions and making sure not to do something dumb. You can modify the difficulty with the promo card and whatnot but I feel like it’s not enough to keep me engaged since it’s still mostly the same patterns and if you survive the early turns (which can often come down to luck of barbarian draw at higher difficulty) then it’s smooth sailing. Glad I backed it but sold it after that first campaign play.
Agreed Ark Nova is really fun and snappy solo. Nice that it has a clear win-con unlike many other Euro solo modes. Only played it once so far solo but might do it more now that it’s on BGA.
Nusfjord has been a hit with my group recently and I don’t usually like Uwe games solo, but someone has been posting a monthly solo challenge for it on BGG which makes it quite fun to compare games with other players when playing with identical setups.
Gloomhaven is great solo on Steam since it cuts out all the tedium of physical.
I had been *really* into Spirit Island solo but I didn’t play it in May because of the aforementioned games (mostly Legacy of Yu).

ROVE's expansions are wonderful! Especially the more you get comfortable with the system as half of them add some pretty challenging twists into things. Though it can feel a little silly playing a buttonshy game with a deck of around 30 cards. Such a wonderful puzzle though that'll never leave my collection.

I didn’t get to play as many games solo as I usually do, but when I got Legacy of Yu, I burned through that campaign fairly quickly with 10-11 games haha. But I agree that it’s probably better played at a slower pace, but still enjoyable. I’ve really enjoyed Spirit Island solo, and might pick up an expansion soon for that. But the game I am playing the most is Dice Throne Adventures, which is a dungeon crawler with the characters from the 1st and 2nd season (and marvel). I’ve already gone through the campaign with 5 of the characters and plan to at some point go through DTA with all of them. I think it’s a game Francis would like more, but a great game because I love player variability. And the art is amazing.

Thank you so much for your excellent videos. I thoroughly enjoy the way you present the games. I was wondering if you could explain in detail what a campaign is and how it works. I think I would love to do one, but have no clue what it even means.

Ark Nova's also my current focus. So much joy and satisfaction in this game! A friend introduced me to it very recently, I bought it a couple of days later because I just couldn't stop thinking about it! The "vanilla" solo mode is fairly good, but it's more like a puzzle. ARNO, on the other hand, is utterly fantastic! When you try it, make sure to use the app, which vastly simplify using it (or them - you can play with multiple ARNOs!)

i think i have bought more games in May than I played! my collection is growing. but in May i played: dice kingdoms of valeria, rolling realms, next stop london, fleet the dice game, motor city, cascadia, tiny epic zombies, wok and roll, welcome to, wingspan and metro x. all solo. of course i like my roll and writes! and... i am setting up for my first game of Hadrian's Wall. so excited for that.

I bought a special tray for the player, for Ark Nova, a game I enjoy a lot. I'd love to play it more often, if I hadn't those terrible pains in my lower back when I'm seated (well, when I'm standing, it's excruciating). This prevent me to play a lot unfortunately, especially big games, it's so so frustrating.
I think that one day I'll have to try Hadrien's wall! Your enthousiasm is contagious!
On the other hand, I don't like one-shot games, so Legacy of Yu is not for me.
Dog Park is a very very light game but I like it as well! The game is very quick. It's my comfort game !! (and the material is awesome). I also love dogs, cats, all critters in fact. I'm happy to learn that an expansion is coming, maybe new rules will be added.
Well, I don't remember which game I played in May as I don't keep tracks. There must have been many roll/flip and write and small games.
I ordered a game called "Birdwatcher" because, well, it's about paradise birds! It's a set collection game, push your luck...and I don't know more!
And, I learned that a solo variant is possible for "In the Footsteps of Darwin" ! That's great, I think I'm going to get it. Not such a big game as "Darwin's journey"! I'm going to watch videos of solo play through so as to make up my mind.
Have you heard about those games :
    - "Your best life", a roll (or flip?) and write game, which looks like The pursuit of happiness (a game I enjoy a lot)
    - "Portals", an abstract game
thanks for the video Jenna! Have an excellent week

Nice video, Jenna! In May I played the following games solo: Cascadia, Earth, Next Station London, Welcome To, Doom Machine, and The Red Cathedral. And, speaking of The Red Cathedral, have you played it solo? Would love to see you tackle that one!

I love Ark Nova! I've only played it solo and only the solo variant in the box. I'd love to give it a try multiplayer and then maybe I'll see if I want to try ARNO.
Ares Expedition solo was vastly improved for me with the Crisis expansion. Base solo VPs are basically pointless (sorry, bad pun), but Crisis includes mechanisms to make them very useful! I also like how you start with the planet terraformed and you're saving it, base solo felt daunting to me to terraform. Lastly, I have friends who love TfM and one of them loves coop, so I look forward to trying Crisis with him. TfM isn't my favourite, but I do really like AE and space themes.
I was so tempted by Bark Ave on KS... never have I wanted squishy poops more! I just couldn't convince myself to go for it price wise at the time.

I recently sold Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition. Part of my culling. I love the game itself and played it only solo however for the life of me I could never win in solo mode despite multiple games and beginner difficulty. Perhaps I just don't know how to play my cards right but got tired of losing to the point I house ruled to make it 6 rounds instead of 5 and only then did I win. The victory wasn't so sweet though. I have recently been enjoying playing Switch & Signal. Perhaps you can try it! It's a great coop game that can easily be played solo.
