CCBO Peru: Reducing Ocean Plastics through more Sustainable, Resilient Cities

Like many cities around the world, Mancora, Peru, has been challenged to keep up with rapidly growing populations and the waste they produce. The city has also been faced with intensifying typhoons and flooding as a result of climate change-complicating logistics further. With the support of USAID’s Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program, the city has improved its waste management services-expanding its waste collection to reach more residents, while reducing related costs and emissions-and is better prepared for extreme weather events with new collection vehicles and equipment provided by USAID.
