Thank you. This video was exactly what I needed. I was trying to use a WAV with a Bit Rate that was too high! I resampled it in Audacity & all is well now. A-Game!!!
Another great vid, the bit at the end about fps was usful. I tried to make a 12fps animation with audio but it didn't work. I had a crazy idea to speed up the audio then export the animation, thinking it maybe could stretch out the audio. It didn't work, I figured. 😅
@@NobleFrugal Funny you should mention that. I nearly put that into today's video, but decided to make a short one about it for next week. Agreed. It's a great little feature.
I have a problem and i don’t know how to fix it. On opentoonz it shows that i have the audio but when i play my animation there is no audio can you help me to fix it?
Sure. If you can see that your audio is visible over multiple frames, usually the issue is that there's a speaker button below the viewer (the drawing area). Click that and you'll probably hear the audio.
Normally when an audio file can't be used, it shows in 1 frame of the timeline. If you're seeing more frames, with the waveform showing, then the file imported ok. If the file format is MP3, then OpenToonz is using FFMPEG to decode it, so it's best to check if you can find a newer version of that. Otherwise, I'd just suggest converting it to a different format or bit type (16bit or 32bit) and see if that helps. Try any new audio in a new scene.
Question: I am very new and without experience. Is there a way to have opentoonz create a whiteboard explainer video - where a hand with a pen draws the text characters of words onto the whiteboard - similar to doodly? Are there any plugins for opentoonz to help automate the creation process? thx
Hi. Not easily, no. You can easily move a hand around, but making the text appear like that isn't as easy. I've got a couple of videos with ideas for adding/animation text. There aren't plugins that help with production, no. But what kind of automation are you after?
Question - I'm trying to put in audio files with mp3 and I have ffmpeg but every time I click load or import, it doesnt show up with a sound and when I do it again it says the sound is already there
You can only import 8bit & 16bit audio. I suspect that your MP3 is 32 bit or other. This is the usual reason for this kind of problem. Details here: opentoonz.readthedocs.io/en/latest/working_in_xsheet.html?highlight=audio#creating-a-soundtrack-1 If you convert it to 16bit it will work. Or if you install the latest nightly, you can import other versions of audio.
I'm sure there is a file explorer on a mac. You can always right click on a cell on the timeline and choose Load Level to add an asset (audio file, image, video)
Hi, darren, I create audio in audicity and save in 16 bit its playing well but I import it in opentoon and play with video its flickering and then its also ok after complete of scene mean individually it audio is playing well but when I played it with video its flickering please guide me. Thanks.
Sometimes OpenToonz can't keep up playing the video and audio together in the program. The question is, how does it sound when you render it? It's likely going to be ok. But even if not, a lot of users never use the audio output from OpenToonz. It's just there to help time out what you draw. They'll we the render from OpenToonz and the audio into a video editor to combine them. You get a more accurate copy of the audio doing that.
@@Car-toonz There are plenty to choose from, with different features and requiring more or less resources, but the one I recommend is the one I use and that's Shotcut. It's a free editor, had all the features I need and runs pretty smoothly on my computer.

I know this video is old but I did run into something messing my audio up. The audio itself has different frames per sec for different parts and it's now sounding off. Not sure what to do.
Did it first import ok and now it's off or did it import incorrectly? It might be worth opening it in an audio program (Audacity is good and free) and resaving it as a wav file under a different name, just to test it out.
@@DarrenTAnims Wow I did not expect you to answer the same day but thank you so much. I fond out it was the audio itself that was wrong and while I was not able to fix the original I was about to take another snip from where I got it. Still had one frame stuck at 26fps instead of 24fps but it enough to have as a base since I was going to put the animation alone into Hitfilm. Oh and It was imported incorrectly for the start Edit: Just re-read you comment and if there a way to fix an audio frame rate from Audacity do you have a tutorial for that? Again thank you so much for even replying to me it's means a lot.
I don't have a tutorial for it, but if you just choose Save As in Audacity and choose wav, that is a fixed fps format, so the audio should import into OpenToonz all at the same rate.
What's the filename? Also, check the bitrate. OpenToonz only accepts 8 or 16 bit audio (opentoonz.readthedocs.io/en/latest/working_in_xsheet.html?highlight=audio#creating-a-soundtrack-1)

Yes very helpful!
Hands down it has to be the ability to record audio right in OT. It makes it so easy to make storyboards and of course some comedic animations!
