True or False: Pregnant women should avoid eating fish and seafood due to mercury concerns

- Stacey Nelson, a Registered Dietitian from the Department of Nutrition and Food Services, discusses food safety during pregnancy.
"The fatty acids MIGHT offer SOME protection from mercury damage" something about that just isn't reassuring
My thoughts exactly
Well consider that rice given to babies as food can acumulate arsenic but parents feed them that junk directly anyway, mercury is no more a concern. There's no reason to avoid fish while pregnant any more than what you might avoid normally.
An adult should avoid eating high trophic fish, large fish that is, like Tuna, on a regular basis and target fish with high selenium content which is proven to reduce absorption of mercury. Selenium is very helpful to the body anyway. Sardines and other small fish are very good fish sources.
As far as pathogens are concerned, that's also just a nonsense reason to avoid fish. All foods can contain pathogens, it's not exclusive to seafood.
There's also a claim that eating eggs while pregnant causes the baby to be allergic to eggs. That's 180 degrees backwards as exposure to foods in infancy lowers risk of developing allergies.
Eggs and Fish, two highly valuable food sources to the development of fetuses, both being needlessly avoided by mothers. Eggs in particular are a complete food with all the vital nutrients a baby needs and then some. If you don't already have an egg allergy then cram as much of those suckers down your throat as you want. Just moderate your seafood intake how you normally would, no more than a couple times per week.
