    I know very little about Wordpress and am fumbling through my site but it's a digital art portfolio and this helped a lot. I used your link but I'm starting on the free plan. Thank you!

    Thank you for yet another great tutorial. I see my pictures are 50 - 350 kB sizes, do I need compression for such small images?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thanks for putting this together! Question - How can I bulk-resize images before I have shortpixel IO bulk optimize them?
    The thinking - When I use ShortPixel IO (I'll call it SPIO) it costs me a credit per picture. In order not to use the least amount of credits possible, it makes sense to upload images to wordpress and play around with them before using SPIO. But, the pictures should at least be a reasonable size (no greater than 1920px Width typically) before I have them optimized.
    Thanks!

    Thanks, Bjorn. Great job of explaining the differences in compression. If I want to use the photo similar in size (pixels) and reduce that to maybe 2000px wide, can that be done with this plugin and also keep the correct proportions. Personally, I see no need for a 6000px wide image on a website.

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  5 років тому

      Hi John, you're right, 6000px is way too big for lost websites except for maybe photography sites and blueprint sites.
      The plugin can be set to scale images down in the settings. But then that will be applied to all images. If you want to do one-time scaling or just a handful then you can edit, crop and scale the image in the WP media library. Open the image in the media library and click on 'edit' which should be somewhere on the image page.
      I hope that helps, let me know!

      The largest I use for headers is 1920 × 1080px or 1280 × 853px

    Do we need to compress the images on the short pixel site BEFORE we upload them to the media library? Or Just use the plugin and let it do the compression from there?

    Hi, could this plugin work with for example a social media website where uesrs upload images? Would this compress those imagesa automatically?

    This is a great plugin! My images are currently around 300-350kb on my website and my page load speed is horrendous. What do you suggest is the optimal image size for websites? When I use this plugin it will go down to around 90kb. I have about 4-6 images per product page so surely that will be small enough? :)

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  5 років тому

      Hi Isabella, that should be small enough. But I bet you can get them smaller. Are the images scaled to the exact size you need them on your site? In other words, if the image is 400px wide is it set to 400px wide on the site? Or do you have images that are larger and scaled down on the site by defining a small width? I hope that makes sense.
      I also have a video publishing this week showing another way to optimize images using Photoshop. It's more work, but gives you a little more control.

      @@wplearninglab PS gives not only a little more control but a lot. Not only is the option to resize an image much better when it comes to quality. Especially converting the color profile often doesn't end well with this plugin. Don't get me wrong it is a great plugin but if you use it to convert from CMYK to RGB you might end with dull or wrong colors.

    how to use properly this plugin if I dont want to break my pictures? Because when I optimize pictures that I uploaded and then when I upload new pictures, how to tell to shortpixel to NOT optimize these pictures that were optimized already ?? Because this seems to be a big issue for me as I'm getting error for re-optimized pictures.. thanks a lot!!

    the +50% link didn't work. I clicked on the link and saw the red bubble with + 50% and clicked there, but it didn't apply. just to let you know... (I bought a one time option)

      Can you tell me which email address you used to sign up. Or email it to me at bjorn @ wplearninglab dot com. I'll reach out to Shortpixel and see if we can get it resolved.

      @@wplearninglab thank you :-) no problem, just wanted to let you know. maybe the problem was that I signed in first (for free account), and after that I clicked your link to buy with bonus. on the sales page I had the "+ 50%" I then clicked and in the cart I only had the 30.000 (one time image credits). bought it then anyway.

    Hi there. So i signed up with Short Pixels through your link and after 460 images it stopped processing and wants me to upgrade. I thought the link included 15,000 compression. Please assist, thanks

    what is different between this plugin and Smush Image Compression and Optimization

    • @wplearninglab
      @wplearninglab  5 років тому +7

      Good question!
      The pro version of both plugins are pretty much equal. The big difference is in the free versions.
      1. Smush allows you to compress all your images with no limit in the free version. The catch is you can only compress 50 images at a time, but that's not a big deal. The downside is the free version compression is only half of what the pro version can do.
      2. ShortPixel has the same compression abilities in the free version versus the paid version, but you can only compress 100 images per month with the free version (150 per month if you use the link in my video description).
      So, in short, free Smush compresses more images, but doesn't compress them as well. ShortPixel compresses fewer images, but it compresses them much better.
      I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
