You can hide WordPress theme name and directories and hide WordPress plugins pretty easily using a single plugin. This plugin creates rewrite rules for all the areas you specify in the settings. When you apply all the settings like I show you in this video, it will be a challenge for anyone to identify your site as a WordPress site.

Hi there, is there any way to completely hide a plugin such as Elementor that is still popping up in many lines of the source page?
Thank you !

@@wplearninglab You told at the end of the video time: 16.02 that Hide my WP By NSP Code plugin is doing something else then the intended purose also.
Do you think they are hacking, or stealing data secretly? This will be a rocket news on your channel if u can disclose? Thanks.
Great tutorial. Going to give this a try for some additional security layers.
Excellent video, very well explained. You have solved many things for me. thank you 10 points for you
Thanks for the 10 points Freddy and thanks for watching!
Great tutorial as always ,,, I thought the plugin would break my site but fortunately it didn't. :)
wow ... opening my brain ! Thank you so much...
This is so cool. Love watching your posted videos. Just wondered do you have anything on sourcing, installing and using SSL? My host doesn't supply them themselves but will source and install for £120 + VAT. I'm sure I must be able to get it somewhere cheaper. They say they will install any I provide and supply a dedicated IP for £50 +VAT. I have a number of clients with the host but they aren't all WP.
Cool thank you this was great info

Hello Bjorn,
Thank you for all these great videos. They are very informative and helpful.
1. Could you use WP Hide & Security Enhancer on a website that has already been customized without a child theme to Hide WordPress Directories, WordPress Plugins, and so on?
2.If not is there any other option(s)?
Thank you
Very cool! I would assume you would want to do this BEFORE anything else, ya? (Especially if you're using hard-links on assets)... Also- if I do all of this on one install, and want to package the site for another host, is there any likelihood that things will blow-up?
Super Awesome!!!
Super awesome is how we do. Thanks for watching Gina!
superduper new favorite word!

Hi, I really liked your video, and that's why I subscribed to your channel!
I have two questions
A) Even after following your step by step if you type in the source code of the page the word Wordpress appears texts with the name wordpress, how to remove?
B) Is it possible to restrict to not being able to make a copy of my entire site? Using for example the command Wget?
I would like to know more about that.
Thank you!

great video Bjorn, I continued on from where you left off, but still sse numerous references to wp and elementor such as
What happens when we get an update? Do we have to deactivate this plug in before updates and reactivate? Also read the comment on site crash, is that common with this plugin and WP?

Hi! Im new at hiding themes for the sites I make. I just relaunched my site and REALLY want to try this plugin and use it just to change/hide the theme only...Im afraid it will break my site and it took me all month to get it up!! What are the risks in changing JUST the theme name to hide the theme? Thanks
Great tutorial however I can't remove the wp-admin links when I look at my source code. Looked everywhere in the plugin but can't work it out - can you help please?
you save my job thank you men
I’m happy I could help Vitor!
Thanks a lot for this great tutorial.
I did exactly like that, but I can still see Elementor, and Woocommerce on pages source. is there a way to hide that?
Thank you
You're welcome El Garate Adil, thanks for watching!
nice god job sir
Hi Björn, thanks for this video it's super helpful. I was wondering if doing this will affect future themes updates or plugin updates?
Im wondering too, and i search every single comment about themes or plugin updating, there no one answer the question. And maybe we must try and error. For test this plugin
I would think you would have to change the theme name back and then do a manual update of the theme, then rename it again. However, I suspect there's a bigger problem. Most hosting companies these days will automatically update WordPress sites to the latest version automatically. When this occurs, you'll probably be notified (hopefully in advance), but then it's up to you to recognize the issue and update the theme manually yourself because hosting companies will not update your theme. Same thing for plugins. Otherwise you will likely eventually see problems crop up because of incompatibilities between the versions of WordPress, your theme, and plugins you're using. And of course, the longer you go between updates the more likely your site will become vulnerable to attacks. There are applications and services available to keep everything on your site updated, like iThemes Sync, but I don't believe they would work if you re-name the theme or plugins.
This was a great video! Thank you so much!
I do have one question. If we are making many sites, would you recommend using different path names on every site? For example, if one website's new theme path is 'extra_new_theme_path,' can another website I'm working on be the same, or should it be different?
Hi Petia,
Good question. I would say keep it simple and use the same paths on all your sites.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching! Let me know if you have any further questions :)
@@wplearninglab Awesome! Thanks so much!
In that case could the plug-in settings be exported from one and imported to another?
Hi there. This plugin breaks my site, I've tried several times to uninstall & reinstall whilst also disabling all non-essential plugins. Is there another plugin with similar capabilities. Kind Regards
Hi possible to change plugin name? When I change the word 'woocommerce' the woocommerce product filter break does work, so I was wondering If change the plugin name might work
Hi! Of course the htaccess wouldn't work alone, how would the html output of the application would change via some rules on the .htaccess...?
Thanks so much, it was so helpful.
what about if you automatically update the theme afterwards? all changes will stay?
Hi Bjorn!, First off, thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial, as usual!!
Now, here I have got the problem that with the plugin installed some Elementor sections disappear and they are back again once the plugin gets deactivated. This error shows up in every device. Also, only at some devices, the header is gone and again, it is back again once the plugin is deactivated.
Can you possibly help me identify the reason and how to fix the issue? Thanks again!
Can't hide the plugins and show all the plugins in developer tools
Is this plugin compatible with iThemes Security? Also I heard you can use it to prevent SQL injections. Can you do a tutorial on that?
and one more question if i do then my website speed decrease
or same speed
I follow all of your steps and still my WP info is showing im attempting to hide the fact that i'm using WP any suggestion?
i have installed this latest plugin (ver 3.3). it worked well in chrome browser, but not for the others (mozilla, opera). any solution for this?
thank sir
You are awesome, thank you again, it works like a charm! 👊👊👊
Thanks A, you're awesome too! Thanks for watching!
@WordPress Tutorials - WPLearningLab Interesting video, thanks for the info. One question though, I looked at the website of someone I know, just to see what the whatwpthemeisthat.com page would show. It came up with "Access denied to the site. Does the site require a password or perhaps it has a firewall in place?". It does show everything in wpthemedetector.com
Wouldn't this plugin break plugin/theme updates? i.e. if I change the plugin/theme path/names etc will the update happen smoothly or not? I assume it will not. Am I right?
Does it affect the performance and seo of the site ?
Theme and plugin Hide, But many Theme Detector Show "WordPress detected, but the specific theme details could not be determined.
It is probably using a customized or proprietary theme."
hi, may i know how about the SEO URL path on google still showing ...wp-content/uploads/image-01.gif
or our custom new URL ? .../js-content/img/image-01.gif ?
any option to replace the "wordpress" suffix from browser tab in admin panel ? also rename the plugin name in browser tab ?
thank you
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
Hello did your finally find deleting the plugin an just copy and pasting ?! thanks
Great video! does it work with iThemes Security plugin?
Hi Pelle, it should work with iThemes as long as you don't have similar functions in iThemes turned on.
I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!
I followed all the steps but, It still shows the WordPress theme detected When searched from sites, and out of 32 plugins 2 of them were still displaying ( W3 Total cache and omp font I want)
But if you change the urls would a site that is already build go broke with changing the path to the maps?
To really create a nightmate for people wanting to snoop on your code, just change every directory name to "a" or "1".
Makes it nigh on impossible to read your code when used with the other settings. HOWEVER the biggest issue is that if you don't mask the ability to read those files, someone can merely click them and read the files contents anyway.
Would make far more sense for Wordpress to pull their fingers out and allow obfuscation / encryption of source code so you get a garbled mess trying to read it.
Does Cloudflare have the capability to do these stuff? I'm trying to find any service provider that could do this without using any plugin for the safety of breaking the theme or site itself.
Hello! Great video! but I have a doubt ... What about the updates of the theme or plugins? No conflicts?
@Krisnal Alfaro I sure would like to know this too. Let's see if he replies.
@@BallackWhite have you try it?

One question , I tried to edit something in the CSS code but I couldn't show the real class's name even after I deactivated the plugin the classes kept hidden. How can I show them?
at 5:53 you say the css is blocked from FE users how is that done?
Great video, Bjorn. The plugin is an interesting concept. A couple of questions come to mind:
Can you think of a reason to not use it?
Could it break anything on the site or cause issues installing themes/plugins/etc.?
What about when twentyseventeen, twentysixteen, kubrick (LOL!) themes, etc are updated?
Thanks in advance!
what is the answer? did you already use this plugin 2y ago?? is this safe for the updated themes?
@@savitririshma any feedback? have you try it?
Thanks Bjorn for your efforts, I have learnt a lot from you in most of your videos. Do you know a way to hide the name of a plugin completely?, because I can still see Elementor and names of other plugins from the source search. do you know of a plugin that can change that?. Thanks again.
Unfortunately Elementor uses so many references through a site that it's nearly impossible to hid it's use by renaming the files. Your best bet would be hide the source code. Some things you can look into are Ioncube, Zend and this post on StackOverflow: stackoverflow.com/questions/25228476/how-to-hide-the-source-code-of-a-html-page
I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
it is hiding my theme but not the plugins and if i type wordpress it comes up in my search, i dont think it is hiding anything.. any help??
Will this affect the SEO performance of a site when google crawls your site?
nope
Hi Man, thanks for this. Does this help secure your site from hacking? Thanks
Hi Ronniel, it doesn't 'harden' the site from hacking but it does hide everything.
These days most hacking is done by automated bots. They identify your site as WordPress, then look for vulnerable files. This plugin will be able to help slow down or stop those attacks from happenong, depending on how well you hide plugins and files using the settings.
Or hacker bots try to brute force attack your login page. You can use this plugin to move your login page to a different url that bots will have a hard time finding: ua-cam.com/video/p7qxSptZif0/v-deo.html
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Sir.. Kindly help me.. I am facing problem while using this plugin.. I did exactly as you directed in vedio but still my theme name and plugins are stil visible to all.. Kingly help
do you think its possible to hide video and content from being downloaded with a plugin
am getting error like :
Rewrite test failed! The wp_remote_get() returns a 403 error code:Forbidden
A custom rewrite line has been inserted into your rewrite file for testing, the Test URL expected to return a JSON response (contains a name and description) The server instead replied a 403 error with the message Forbidden
You need to get in touch with your server support for a fix, the rewrite engine is either disabled for your account or their internal set-up does not allow such rewrites.
does this affect your site seo?
Hi Bjorn, just browsing a few older tutorials and wondered whether this is still a strategy you'd recommend?
I'm not bjorn, but I wouldn't recomend it and never did. Instead try not to bloat your wp with multipurpose themes and bloatet large plugins, make updates every week, and set the right file and folder permissions to the wp folders. only use reliable plugins (that get updates often and are used by a lot of ppl) and delete old ones that are not used anymore. make backups on reg. basis (rec.: UpdrafPlus Backup) and TEST the backups at least once a year on a staging environment. and dont try to secure your site by plugging in even more security plugins. take a good host like kinsta or several other similar good ones. scan your files from time to time if you are paranoic. and finaly: put some effort into deciding what plugin is a mess and what is small and allmost perfect for your purpose (or if it even needs a plugin). one last tip: get in contact to a good developer, so you have someone if something got messed up.
@@tldw8354 great comment. It is a pain that so many tutorials related to wordpress are rooted in downloading plugins. I never want to download plugins if they aren't needed. I haven't making sites very long but the first thing I learned is don't bloat your site with unneeded plugins.
When I followed your cpanel instructions I cannot locate the htaccess file. When I search for the file I can find and open it, but can't find it so I can right click and copy. I have a folder that is titled 'access log' but it is empty. So now I feel confused. :(
Hi Diana,
By default the .htaccess is a hidden file.
In some hosts, in the file manager there may be a 'settings' link where you can choose to show hidden files. Check that option if it's there.
In other hosts when you click on the file manager a box pops up asking what directory you want to open. There may be a show hidden files option in that box. Check that option if it's there.
If neither of those are true please contact your hosts support to find out how to show hidden files.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Simply doesn't work for my WP sites. Followed your tutorial to a T but different results. Theme name shows all throughout.

Hi, i How can change wordpress name and wordpress icon on wordpress engin website in "wappylizer"
hi...how can change theme name from my site??
Hi Sojol,
The theme name that appears in Appearance > Themes is set in the main stylesheet of the website. You can find it in the theme's directory and the name of the theme is right at the top of the file.
I hope that helps and thanks for watching!
Please make a video on amp
Not only in wappalyzer , it can detect the entire website on wpthemedetector as well :(
Do I need this if I'm using a security plugin like Wordfence?
yes, this plugin is using a technique called security through obscurity, which consists on bluffing the rookie (most) hackers away. As for plugins like Wordfence, they add layers of security against hack techniques such as XSS, CSRF, DDOS, Brute Force and such. I think using both plugins simultaneously is very efficient in terms of security.
Works "well" thx, but elementor still appearing
Hello I do watch your tutorial very helpfull, but do you know that the website detials are still 80% accessible easily,.... visit builtwith.com, or use google inspect and on console select sources you will see all the plugins.... how can that be hiden.
i tried it and it doesn't work. The whole sites just looks like rich text?
It slows my website....
wow! great tutorial to hide my theme and details. I am a front end developer. Now my question is that how can I find the hidden theme? please tell me the way. It's important to know. can you please tell me the way? 'whatwpthemeisthat' is not working for that site. and there is no 'style.css' file in view page source. what can I do in that situation?
Hi Sumon,
The truth is always in the source code, even if it's well hidden in the source code. Sometimes, the only way to find out what the theme is is to look through all the folders and view the code in the files to try to find hints about the theme. Sometimes developers will use function names with the theme name in them or leave comments in the code referencing the theme. Things like that can't be hidden without rewriting the code, but they can be hard to find.
And, after a lot of digging, you may come to find the website was not built with WordPress...
I hope that helps :) Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks for watching!
