Thats mostly the reason it was mainly portion of Ukrainian creators giving it all its hate for reasons that hardly explain upon and people just listen to them. I'm not say all Ukrainians bad for the people that read this but only sending hate that's cuz their on the other side of the war that's not really able to voice their own opinion, unless they want to disappear. This is why I didn't just blindly follow all verbal one sided hate.
Prey 2017 is one of my favourite games in the last decade for sure. Ive played through it several times and somehow still not bored with it. I could reinstall it now and play through it before my lunch I know it that well.
Part of the reason the dialogue doesn't work for a lot of people is apparently because of a cultural divide. Evidently, a lot of it references Russian popular culture and memes.
I dont think the plot was meant to be taken all that seriously. The weird acting and writing might also be a translation issue, this is their first game after all
I think as their first game. it's an admirable attempt. tho it suffered from taking from too many elements from other games. the game need more focus and hopefully it will find it "gameplay" identity in a sequel. Art direction is already amazing/sharp.
I’m at the beginning ( trying to collect canisters for birch tree). But so far I like it. As for the eclectic approach and taking from other games. It depends how one look at it. Some might see it as taking inspiration and by copying many elements the creators might wanted to include what they liked in other games or pay tribute to them. At least as it is right now game is fully playable so far I had no major issues (nitpicking: one flickering texture). Even though I heard the whole discussion around this game I try to start playing it open minded and so far it is a game I enjoy.
There was also some pretty deep issues behind the scenes during development. If you dig around on online you can find a lot of info about the development. It's a miracle that they were even able to release it let alone in a relatively good state.
I fell in love with Atomic Heart when I saw the first trailers back in 2018 and I already pre-ordered it a year later. Overall I had a lot of fun with it despite very few bugs here and there and the not-so-great writing, but honestly I've seen much worse. By the way, at 4:54, to all of you wondering why P-3 says "crispy critters" all the time, there's actually a lore reason in-game for it that is pretty easy to miss. At first I, and probably most of you, thought it might have been a common phrase in Russia or something but no it isn't. At least not that I know of. Near the end of the story, when P-3 is in the archive room searching for those videotapes of his past, if you look through those holographic computer things (I forgot what they were called) that have emails you can scroll through and read, there's one message that basically says when P-3 was brought into surgery after his accident in the war, where he was all burned up, one of the scientists mentioned how he and the other soldiers looked like "crispy critters" and since P-3 heard him say that during his brainwashing experiments, the phrase became stuck in his mind and they didn't know how to remove it. So that's why he says it so often in the game.
I definitely like the reasoning for Crispy Critters, I just think the subtlety didn't work the way they wanted (likely partly due to the oddity of the concept to begin with of course) though likely also the fault of simple cultural differences / difference in thought process. I think if they introduced the idea a little more starkly / with some better hinting it'd hurt the games writing a lot less. As it stands though, I got very, very, very tired of hearing crispy critters. It has the air of 'Would ya kindly' from Bioshock with a fraction of the weight, I'd almost call it a dissatisfying origin given how annoying it can get. (Personally, I was rather sick of it by the time I exited the prologue area) Edit: It's not quite the same but I compared the over-usage of Cripsy Critters with how young teens will often have every other word in their sentence be 'fuck' to make things sound like they have more gravity/are more important than they seem. I feel the writers almost didn't have enough confidence in the set pieces, which I think was uncalled for (though they happened far too often even before reaching the world at large itself)
And to make it clear: the texting and voiceover in Russian (I'm a native speaker) is SHOCKINGLY bad. (by compression: russian in Stalker or Escape From Tarkov - is great. And very many nuances there were lost in English translation). But Atomic Heart is equally bad
I loved this game. The expectation that every game has to be better than every one before it is seriously limiting people's enjoyment of the medium. Somehow I'm able to enjoy games of varying quality: Redfall doesn't have to be Borderlands, Homefront: The Revolution doesn't have to be Far Cry 3, and Atomic Heart doesn't have to be Bioshock. I don't need every game to be photo realistic running at 120 fps and 8,000p, and I don't expect them to. This game is a fun, violent romp through a fantastic sci fi world; that's more than enough for me.
I really liked this game. The dialogue reminded me of older games with how cheesy and plain dumb some of it is. It doesn't take itself too seriously and knew what it wanted to be. It was fun, interesting, and unique. I feel like most of the backlash was because of the "Russian bad, boycott" and "sex jokes bad, boycott" cults on Twitter.
"Russian bad" No man ruzzia is "good" You do not understand this because bombs do not fall on your heads and your people are not killed in the occupied territories.
As a Russian speaker who is now fully American, the original writing is really good and the tone is perfectly written for a Russian audience. It’s honestly just a bad dub that’s the reason people find it cheesy.
I'm actually really glad to hear you say you enjoyed this game. Describing as wanting to be BioShock may have actually set my expectations in a more positive direction for when I finally get to play it. And doing all the side quests for satisfying upgrades to end up being OP seems like a trend I usually do as well, leaving me feeling like a god who earned his power, lmao. It reminds me of playing Darksiders 2 with a Life & Wrath (magic) Steal build. Difficult to acquire and may lead to being underpowered for some time, but ultimately nothing could touch you once you've done it. 😂
There's also this trend nowadays to over complicate game analysis and a lot of UA-camrs tend to this to sound more philosophical and intelligent or something, like If that was the main objective of gaming itself, when it should be to have fun. This game is a true gem between all the broken launches we have had recently (tlou, Redfall, forspoken, Jedi survivor, wild hearts, howarts legacy), and sadly it's underappreciated for the sake of it being Russian and not coming from a well known company. I've enjoyed it like if I was a kid, and can't wait for the sequel
I've also played atomic heart and it feels like a modern bioshock more than anything else, I heard a lot of people not liking it and giving excuses I didn't see during my playthrough or thinking it's just a horny game because of screenshots of the robot twins lol
At the end the only opinion that counts is our own coming from experience. Over the years there was many games rated as OK ones which I liked. And some so called masterpieces I did like as much. In the age of more expensive games, and many broken releases. It’s good to find something we can simply enjoy. Have a nice time gaming!
@@mravg79 I think it's more of the frustration of people just accepting extremely medicore games, honestly just a problem with the world right now, too many people accepting mediocrity and won't accept improvements. We can't have the quality of the "good old days" if people are just going to accept mediocrity, vote for your wallet you know?
Fun fact: spoiler warning crispy critters is the part of the sentence medics at the facility said while Nechayev have been in coma describing his condition after missle attack on Bulgaria. So ye, that "ебучие пироги" thing was explained. Btw every language has it's own crispy crutters sentence for other languages.
Atomic heart is basically the perfect steam deck game It's quite simple but also engaging(runs mostly on 60fps) I'm pretty sure the main reason why people hated atomic heart is because their favorite youtubers told them to thanks to ,,crispy critters"
I liked Atomic Heart a lot. I didn't know about the saw mace upgrade. Makes me want to play again. I did get all the upgrades for everything, I just didn't experiment with all the weapons.
I'm quite infatuated with the USSR's history, so I really fw this game's art style and universe. I really dislike the fact I didnt enjoy this game for that reason
Seriously, the amount of people that will never play this game because it's Russian is disgusting to me, especially when they'll go to stores like Walmart and Amazon and buy a bunch of Chinese junk while China throws Muslims into slave camps, actively just murders anyone it doesn't like, and uses it's prisoners for organs. I don't care what anyone says, China is so, so much worse than Russia yet they'll gladly fork over their money for cheap slave wage stuff like Nike and Shein. This game, while slightly disapointing to me because my hopes were so, so high from when they first released the trailer, was still a great and enjoyable experience and I'm glad that the devs on their Twitter can make jokes at their expense and rumors (such as when they made a joke on April Fools referencing a rumor to a certain 6hr long scene with the Twins). I can't wait for the DLC and I hope they continue the story with a sequel so we can see more of this fantasical world. As a fan of dieselpunk, this scratches an intense gaming itch! As well I'm glad you took a completely unbiased look into the game instead of completely shitting on it simply because of where it was made like I see so many do.
I dont really think the dialogue is that bad, sorta part of the charm for me. I love the metro games and they sorta have the same weid dialogue feel but a really good weird. Some of p3s one liners are a bit cringe tho. And the people that whined about p3 being too mean and an asshole need to realise that not every protagonist needs to be a blue colloared boring ass nice guy (plus lore wise he used to be very well mannered but after his brainwashing thing it turned him into an asshole, prolly to do with his wife getting wiped from his memory)
I have a strong feeling that Mick was there just for his name in credits and maybe a few ambience and trailer music. All the kickass tracks people are liking are actually done by Geoffrey Day, a guy who was mainly doing "Doom style" covers on his channel. So devs are basically hired Mick Gordon for one or two tracks and gave the rest of music to the guy who is great at recreating the style of Mick Gordon, so now you have Mick's name in credits AMD a lot of music sounds like it's by Mick... So vicious and genius
@@SpikeVike27 this is how we do things in Russia... Just kidding, everybody does it. Like hiring a pizza guy who once delivered an order to Tim Kane in order to write "FROM THE CREATORS OF FALLOUT" in their ads.
I enjoyed it ! The open world was a bit copy paste but I still went to every facility etc etc. i only crashed once, but I enjoyed it. Seemed like they had development hell and the game was changed a lot from trailers, which makes me wonder if they managed to figure out what they wanted to do a bit faster how much more polished it would feel. I’ll return for upcoming dlc for sure but top tip if you play this do not play it with the English voice actor because it’s terrible 😂
i played it day 1 and honestly didnt experience any changes after the patches playing through the game for a 3rd time now and as a russian speaker i can guarantee that the russian voice acting is actually quite good
Honestly haven't decided whether or not to play this one yet. Probably will, eventually. I just got done replaying Control and I'm still feeling a bit of an itch for more of that sort of action. Holding it at bay with some old-school level editors for now, but that will only last me so long :)
It's on game pass I play it occasionally but it is something I would recommend for fps offline... I dont play shooting games no mo but this is the only one I've got installed..
About people suggesting playing in Russian -- it's funny, but I heard more then once from Russian people, that English voice acting for Atomic Heart is way better. Guess grass is always greener on the other side.
@JarekTheGamingDragon didn't the alarm system, repair bots and respawning enemies annoy you? I will play the game, but those design choices are a bit of a turn off for me
When you are outdoors the repairing of robots can get overwhelming. When you are in the mission specific buildings there aren't many repair bots (there are some in buildings towards the end) Which is kind of nice.
Mildly annoying in the open world section but not a problem any where else and not game ruining. I also have no idea what people are talking about with spongey enemies. I can only assume they didn't play the game long or the game was patched before I played it.
@@Jarekthegamingdragon It could have been patched. When I was playing, combat felt pretty good once I turned down the difficulty, but individual enemies soaked a lot of rounds on normal. Increasing weapon damage via upgrades also helped, but that comes later on. EDIT: Now, I actually wonder if enemy respawn times were slowed. When I played the respawn times were obnoxiously short unless you took out the units that were generating repair bots. I'll have to take another look at it when I've got some time, to see what's been changed.
My experience at release: walk around for half an hour, game bugged out and wouldn't let me enter a car to continue. I have every intention of going back to it, but that was not a great first impression.
it's a solid 7/10. launch was very rough and the story is extremely predictable. the setting is incredible though. the gameplay is my biggest problem. so much backtracking. every area i go to, it's a quest for the pieces where i have to go back where i came from. check all the bodies, etc. there's also the issue of the game being a poster child for rtx features, then rtx is a no show on launch. im not particularly found of rtx, but lacking an option hyped up so heavily for three years is not a good look.
i love the technology, the robots, the fact that they brought back old media, and it was pretty fun. I've been waiting for the game ever sense development and even though its not perfect im happy i got to play it ^^
"I wish we would get more games like this, that are Polish and Finnish" Did anyone else hear that at first? I thought he was making a joke about Eastern European game developers.
It was an incredible artistically and stylistically beautiful game in a unique way but it felt very rudimentary. I was expecting an immersive sim and got a pretty alright FPS game. The game was fun but I’ve had no urge to replay it. The game is fine but it has no replay value. Good thing is it runs really good, it’s gorgeous, attention to detail is fantastic but I feel like the game is missing a lot of mechanics and content.
ya the game did have up and downs at the start but it is fun to mess around in heck when i played it on the lowest difficulty it still acted as if it was a slightly higher difficulty and kicked my butt a few times
@@XANTINE-e4n yeah yeah but I refer to those that have negative things to say without bringing that up. They exsist. The ones that are against the situation made it pretty clear they either aren't playing this game, nor are they reviewing it positively if they did. They also exsist. That said, I don't get it after playing the game myself and thoroughly enjoying it.
funny, I actually watched Japanese audio anime nearly every day since the 1990's, its weirder for me at this point in my life watching things like star wars rebels, rick and morty, star wars bad batch, star wars resistance, star trek lower decks, and harley quinn and miraculous in English. I kinda wish I got the Japanese dub for them!
I can say with all my heart that this game is indeed Over Hated, and sadly released at a bad time, which is in no way the dev's fault. Finished the game today and I had a hell of a blast. I just hope this company continues forward.
How nice that all these American games, funded by the Pentagon while the US was invading yet another small country, were being released at the "right time".
I don’t necessarily think it’s overhated. Honestly this game just isn’t much to talk about. It’s enjoyable yes, but it falls flat because they were too ambitious and only managed to just barely complete their ideas. The whole experience felt half baked. But it was an enjoyable half baked game. The gameplay in my opinion never “peaked.” It kinda always felt like I kept saying to myself since the beginning of the game “oh I can see this combat getting real good.” But it honestly never got to that point. It felt like there was only a few pair of enemies in the game (which there is very little variety in enemies btw) that actually had moves that complimented the dodge and jump aspect of the game. The rest felt like just fallout 4 but with a dodge button. The open world and amount of weapons and skills felt like they were having too many ideas at once so the resources were split very rashly and that’s why we only got a little bit of everything. We really didn’t need that “open world.” There were like 7 guns in the game and honestly only 2-3 are good. The abilities are alright but have no depth. But with how mediocre this game is, I will absolutely not forget about it for a long time. They used the annihilation soundtrack 💀. The story became and acid trip mid way, the 6 hour sex scene with the twins, and honestly the whole game had a cool aesthetic. That upgrade menu music is Soo good too.
i bought the game on launch without any updates and finished it without any major issues... i had 1 single crash. For me it was an awesome experience. For me at least the best game in a long time. I lose always fast interrest in shooters but atomic heart was for a few day the only game i would play.... Also under normal cicumstances i dont got much time to play due to work family and so on but for that one i took the time i needed 🙂
I didn't think it was terrible, but Atomic Heart did leave me kinda cold. The speed that enemies respawned at didn't make for a fun combat experience, which was a real shame because the gunplay felt pretty good when you could actually engage in it, if a bit spongy. If that had been toned down, possibly to a characteristic of enemy types that don't endlessly respawn, or if the respawning enemies were getting visibly more degraded and less functional with every revival, it probably would have gone a long way towards the feel of the game.
The game is mid imo, I remember anticipating this game since 2017 with old concepts and vibing with the music. Anyways, the game is fun despite some issues but it is their first game.
i remember this game being so hyped up until the whole russia/ukraine thing so yeah id say the hate is deeply seated in just being political propaganda. on that note, enjoy life while you can people because shits getting heated. ENJOY life, i didnt say go nuts and act crazy.
a love letter to the shock games, i felt it more close to the system shock titles especialy for the robots like in SS1 but that may be because im more familiar with them than bioshock EDITS: The voice acting point is interesting to me, my game wouldnt (and still doesnt) let me change from spanish, but the voice acting was fine, compared to english, the characters sound more mature/serious and like old men with deeper voices, crisspy criters in spanish still hurted to listen too but everything else was manageable, however what i find interesting is how much translations and voice acting do affect a games reception, the same thing about not being able to change language happened to me in Bioshock and it was so mediocre it made me not like the characters that much, but in english it is good and adds so much to the game i know this game isnt an immersive sim but as it was inspired by those type of games (and originaly seemed to be an im sim) its funny how it keeps the curse of bad final bosses going, ever since system shock 1, if you didnt rushed the game, the final boss of these games would be unbelievably easy if you used all your accumulated resources
beat the game 2 days ago I quite liked the game, except for a few things (like the stupid repair robots and that I actually had to get a mod to buff the weapons because they were so weak even after upgrading) but yea bit of a wet fart of a game, especially with that ending, but I'm still excited to see where the setting goes in the DLCs and the sequel I do have to say though if there's one thing that actively impressed me, was the animation quality belyash and hog7 might've been a bitch to fight but their moves were incredible also the "crispy critters" isn't a ltieral translation, as in russian he yells about "flying pies", but there is a reason in the game for it, you can find it in one of the computers in the archive
Horny fridge? I can definetly tell the devs took some inspirition on Fallout New Vegas: Old World Blues (not my cup of tea for a DLC, I'm one of the few people that absolutely loves Honest Hearts and Dead Money, but the writting on OWB is just absolute genius and extremelly funny and actually surpass the main game).
I honestly love the game. It's some of the most fun I've had in a newer fps release since Doom Eternal came out. I think overall though, the game is generally well liked (good critical reception, good public scores on steam and metacritic) but the people who dislike it are very vocal.
I really liked the game! It ineed tries to be something like Soviet Bioshock, but it is not a bad thing at all - we got the unique world rich in detail, that is unlike any moder AAA game. Atomic Heart has flaws, but they are really minor. Overall I liked the game very much and had a ton of fun with it. I think if that was not a russian studio, the game would get lots of prise, sadly. It's not their fault their goverment is at offensive war towards Ukraine.
Unlike all the other woke entertainment in the recent years... I find Atomic Heart surprisingly non woke... it absolutely goes hard with the story, doesn't holds back... that's the main reason I liked it... and the music too, it slaps... 💥💥💥 Also, I like the brain damaged protagonist... I kinda hated him at first... but by halfway through the game, I was like "what's going on with you, man... the revelation of what happened to the protagonist was quite good for me... The last fight between the protagonist and the 2 twins was interestin, and hard... I frantically shot at both of them while getting whopped left right and centre... died 6 to 7 times until I finally defeated them... I don't think this is a propaganda... the story is just soviet based with a little bioshock here, a little doom there... and this is quite a good game... I wonder if this game would still be hated if bioshock creators created this game instead of bioshock and released at that period of time... Keep it up Mundfish... waiting for the sequel... 💥💥💥
I loved this game, my literal only complaint is that I wish it was longer. The story felt like it needed more time to cook. The fact that this is the studios first real game is beyond impressive, and I cant wait to see what they make in the future. It almost felt like a purposely cheesy old sifi film with killer robots.
people hate atomic heart, i mean i was a little disappointed in it and i feel it really needs to calm down in places. my main criticism is how open world exploration which it attempts to do is worthless as the game railroads you along facility to facility and stealth is a non factor as it also feels like every room you have to go in guns blazing, always have ammo stocked. but i enjoy the style the music is really good, and i cant lie there is some enjoyment ot smashing a robot with an axe.
I pre ordeted the gold edition a year ago and am diving into it now. I am enjoying this plenty. Not the best shooter, but soooo satisfying in terms of gameplay and loot collecting. Very good year for console shooters.
I followed this game since it was revealed all the way to release. I played it and while it didnt fully live up to what i was wanting it was pretty damn fun.
I usually play games coming from specific regions in their own native language with subtitles to make sure I get the full context. I find this highly reduces cringe.
Enjoyed it but besides art nothing special. Open -world was too frustrating, puzzles were meh, linear levels were great, loved loot mechanism. A mixed bag max 6.5/10.
I gotta say atomic heart might be game of the year for like yeah there are some issues like one of the weapons and one upgrade didn't spawn for me which is really bad but other than that this game was worth the 4 year wait
My reasons for disliking Atomic Heart for different reasons than most. My problem with this game is that it tries to do several things from several games and does none of them very well. It seems to have video game ADD and needs video game adderol.
I played this game on release and just finished playing through it again on Armageddon difficulty. Never having played Bioshock, there was no nostalgia in the gameplay for me. I agree with almost everything stated in this video. I won't restate anything said in the video, but give additional thoughts. First, I didn't think the dialogue was that terrible. The voice acting and writing was decent enough and I found it really funny how P-3 had "crispy critters" as a catch phrase, it gave him so much more personality, he felt like an actual character, not just an agent that you play as. His catch phrase isn't the only reason for this, but it does help in making P-3 feel like a real character. Replaying the game, I picked up on A LOT of little pieces of dialogue and foreshadowing that hints to the ending which I appreciate. However, it's not nearly enough to allow a first-time player to figure out the story before the ending. There should be enough hints about CHARLES being Zakharov that the player could at least figure out that the glove is more than just an AI before the ending. Then the ending revealing Zakharov's true plans. Gameplay wise, the game does a very good job. As stated, they aren't trying anything new and most of the melee weapons are very similar apart from the OP saws. However, ranged weapons, abilities, and upgrades all considered, there is a lot of variability in play style. I haven't played New Game+ nor do I currently have any intent to play it, however New Game+ adds another level of strategy to the game that will greatly affect play style. The bosses are all well designed in both looks and fighting style and there are a lot of achievements to make the game more difficult and interesting. Overall, I'd say Atomic Heart is a very solid game. A very positive experience worth the cost. And for a modern AAA game, it was very high quality on release without many bugs. It still holds up very well. Edit: Additionally, one aspect that wasn't mentioned that makes this game so cool, is how it's nearly seamless. The game very effectively hides its transitions with graphically impressive cutscenes and elevator rides. Never once will you find yourself stuck in a loading screen which helps make this game very immersive.
Oh that's perfectly fine, It's always great to appreciate beautiful and sexy characters and their designs in video games. I love them and appreciate them as well. I definitely agree, story driven games are more interesting for sure and are awesome. Story driven games help in immersion and enhances the gameplay and game overall.
The game itself had sold me on just its art direction and chaotic nature alone in the trailers, but after actually playing it, it’s definitely cemented itself into games I can love. There are definitely problems and bugs and the dialogue is laughable but honestly it never got to the point where it ruined my time with the game.
This phrase that protagonist say Ебучие пироги can be translated as fucking pies, or more acurately as fucked pies. But you must understand that word fucking can be translated on russian to 40 different words with different meanings. In this case it means pies that annoys everyone to the max. Something like that)
Thank god someone agrees with me,like the games really good it’s just that people went into it expecting a completely different game and that’s the problem. Yes the game needs more polish but it’s a banger either way in my opinion
Seeing late game footage of this makes me want to give it another go since I loved the art direction and the combat felt really weighty, but man (for me, personally) I could NOT ignore that writing and voice acting. Horrendous stuff lol.
See. Ive been following this game since it was offically announced, and seeing how unlucky it got thank a certain conflict i will not mention, it unfortunately did get caught in the crossfire. That's not to say its perfect. But from what ive played so far, its really invigorated my love for Single player FPS games since yes we dont get them very often nowadays
[SPOILERS INCLUDED IN MY STINKY ONION] I was expecting hell with Atomic Heart for sure, and was more than pleasantly surprised. Gameplay for the most part is fluid, fun, and comfortably challenging. I think the world itself is really beautiful, and meticulously pieced together in the weird soviet-punk reality. However, I definitely voice the opinion of many others in that: Crispy Critters genuinely hurts the overall experience for me. It does no justice to immersing me, all it does is remind me that the game like most was written in a developers writing-den. They found something they could use to brand, or market- and that's not good at least not when it comes to the story. In my personal opinion, they tried to not copy but I think imitate the gravity of something like "Thank ya Kindly" from Bioshock- without a good phrase choice (at least for the English localization though I don't think the Russian locale handled it very well either), and a not nearly as interesting connection (simply from my perspective). However, the one thing I for one truly love that a lot of people are 50/50 on- it's the doll ladies. I absolutely love them. The cheeriness and dark self-awareness of pain and suffering was as comedic as it was frightening and discomforting the first time I came face to face with it. But I must definitely agree that the ending- is not entirely satisfying.
Crispy critter sounds like one of them replacement swearwords. also on the openworld bit and doing all the side quest making you OP. I see no problem in that if you like it hard do only a few side channels. if your stugeling do as many side chalange as posible and its easier. its sort of a neat way to change the dificulty in universe way. final boss to hard get some better equipment.
It didn’t vibe with some people, but for people it clicked with it really clicked. This game is so off the wall and nuts it’s glorious. It’s my favorite game of this year so far and will likely be my game if the year tbh.
It’s a direct result of Ukraine propaganda .

Yeah to be honest it really depends your personal tastes lol
I feel like a good portion of the reason it’s hated is because it’s made by a Russian dev. We’ve had people calling to boycott it because of the war
And the only other valid arguments I can see is the dialogue (somewhat excusable bc of said dev company) and spongy enemies (which can be fixed with a buffed damage mod)

That’s what I think too, and the dumb voice acting makes me love it even more. Though sometimes I want to put NORA out of commission…
Like falllout but made by the russians
I dont think the plot was meant to be taken all that seriously. The weird acting and writing might also be a translation issue, this is their first game after all
I’m going to touch you
I think as their first game. it's an admirable attempt. tho it suffered from taking from too many elements from other games. the game need more focus and hopefully it will find it "gameplay" identity in a sequel.
It was flawed but a really creative game so yeah I would say really good
There was also some pretty deep issues behind the scenes during development.
(Personally, I was rather sick of it by the time I exited the prologue area)
Edit: It's not quite the same but I compared the over-usage of Cripsy Critters with how young teens will often have every other word in their sentence be 'fuck' to make things sound like they have more gravity/are more important than they seem.
"cults on Twitter" - isn't it a best possible advertisement?
@@krivdaa9627ironically yeah. Atomic heart and hogwarts got themselves a great advertisement campaign for free(tears of twitter users aside).
"Russian bad"
No man ruzzia is "good"
You do not understand this because bombs do not fall on your heads and your people are not killed in the occupied territories.
People hated this game except “2 things”
There's also this trend nowadays to over complicate game analysis and a lot of UA-camrs tend to this to sound more philosophical and intelligent or something, like If that was the main objective of gaming itself, when it should be to have fun. This game is a true gem between all the broken launches we have had recently (tlou, Redfall, forspoken, Jedi survivor, wild hearts, howarts legacy), and sadly it's underappreciated for the sake of it being Russian and not coming from a well known company. I've enjoyed it like if I was a kid, and can't wait for the sequel
"I get to be happy playing a game and enjoying it"-JarekTheBasedDragon.
I've also played atomic heart and it feels like a modern bioshock more than anything else, I heard a lot of people not liking it and giving excuses I didn't see during my playthrough or thinking it's just a horny game because of screenshots of the robot twins lol
Its a little horny lol
Bioshock is far superior and plays different to this
@@salt_97 lol sure
@@wangchung2157 Have you actually played Bioshock 1?
@@salt_97yes and atomic heart is much better, gameplay wise.
9:51: These are my exact thoughts for Atomic Heart and Dead Island 2. Not revolutionary, but they’re both a blast(to me), so who cares?
@@buddygettingnutty8351 Yeah but like, if people enjoy mediocre games is that really a bad thing? What's the point of gaming anyways?
And they actually contain some revolutionary elements, like the Hive Mind in Atomic Heart and the dismemberment system in Dead Island 2.
Fun fact: spoiler warning
crispy critters is the part of the sentence medics at the facility said while Nechayev have been in coma describing his condition after missle attack on Bulgaria. So ye, that "ебучие пироги" thing was explained. Btw every language has it's own crispy crutters sentence for other languages.
Atomic heart is basically the perfect steam deck game
It's quite simple but also engaging(runs mostly on 60fps)
I'm pretty sure the main reason why people hated atomic heart is because their favorite youtubers told them to thanks to ,,crispy critters"
As of right now the game on steam deck is trash
@@starlightSEGAtwo months later it runs remarkably well. Them wizards at valve know what they’re doing.
It means fucking pies when I looked it up atleast it was in a comment.
"They even added the FOV slider" Ah, that explains the name of the video.
I really like this game. It made me feel like I was playing Wolfenstein again.
While I disagree with your opinion, one thing no-one can dispute is this games amazing art direction and the spectacle of it all.
I'm more surprised this game came out and wasn't some kind of money scam
I really appreciate a first impressions review a decent amount of time after release. Gives me a new perspective if I do go on to check it out
The dialog and voice acting to me is very charming, it will always either make me smile or chuckle. I love it!
Agreed, i just loved all the environmental puzzles and pacing of the game, reminded me of half life
I dont really think the dialogue is that bad, sorta part of the charm for me.
The only hate I have is that Mick still hasn’t dropped his soundtrack
I think the dialogue is just annoying enough that people would rather tune it out by having it in their non-native language lol.
The game was overhated? All I heard was: it’s mundfishes First ever Game release and is pretty good, not a 8 -10/10 but it’s solid and enjoyable
Jarek there is an explanation almost at the end of the game why the protagonist says crispy critters. 👌🏿
it's a solid 7/10. launch was very rough and the story is extremely predictable. the setting is incredible though. the gameplay is my biggest problem. so much backtracking. every area i go to, it's a quest for the pieces where i have to go back where i came from. check all the bodies, etc. there's also the issue of the game being a poster child for rtx features, then rtx is a no show on launch. im not particularly found of rtx, but lacking an option hyped up so heavily for three years is not a good look.
Lol I knew the glove was up to no good from the first time it spoke
i love the technology, the robots, the fact that they brought back old media, and it was pretty fun. I've been waiting for the game ever sense development and even though its not perfect im happy i got to play it ^^
"I wish we would get more games like this, that are Polish and Finnish"
Did anyone else hear that at first? I thought he was making a joke about Eastern European game developers.
Polished and finished. No joke intended, especially not right now in the world lol
Brazilian Portuguese dub is really good, i was impressed
I don't hate it I just wish characters would shut up for like 5 minutes there's so much bloated dialogue
I played through it recently and really enjoyed myself for the most part. It definitely has its issues but overall there's a lot to love about it.
I love this game for sure... dont get the negativity to be honest.
Thank God that I could play this game in Portuguese. The English dubbing sounds really bad.
funny, I actually watched Japanese audio anime nearly every day since the 1990's, its weirder for me at this point in my life watching things like star wars rebels, rick and morty, star wars bad batch, star wars resistance, star trek lower decks, and harley quinn and miraculous in English.
Also under normal cicumstances i dont got much time to play due to work family and so on but for that one i took the time i needed 🙂
the only reason i didnt like the game is because the protagonist speaks so fucking much its unbelievable
This game feels like designed linear game first. Those open world is just bit boring
Yeah game is pretty and runs well but is an incredibly generic bioshock clone with okay gameplay and awful dialogue.
i remember this game being so hyped up until the whole russia/ukraine thing so yeah id say the hate is deeply seated in just being political propaganda.
on that note, enjoy life while you can people because shits getting heated. ENJOY life, i didnt say go nuts and act crazy.
No FOV on console was enough for me to stop playing it
a love letter to the shock games, i felt it more close to the system shock titles especialy for the robots like in SS1 but that may be because im more familiar with them than bioshock
EDITS:
The voice acting point is interesting to me, my game wouldnt (and still doesnt) let me change from spanish, but the voice acting was fine, compared to english, the characters sound more mature/serious and like old men with deeper voices, crisspy criters in spanish still hurted to listen too but everything else was manageable, however what i find interesting is how much translations and voice acting do affect a games reception, the same thing about not being able to change language happened to me in Bioshock and it was so mediocre it made me not like the characters that much, but in english it is good and adds so much to the game
i know this game isnt an immersive sim but as it was inspired by those type of games (and originaly seemed to be an im sim) its funny how it keeps the curse of bad final bosses going, ever since system shock 1, if you didnt rushed the game, the final boss of these games would be unbelievably easy if you used all your accumulated resources
beat the game 2 days ago
I quite liked the game, except for a few things (like the stupid repair robots and that I actually had to get a mod to buff the weapons because they were so weak even after upgrading) but yea
bit of a wet fart of a game, especially with that ending, but I'm still excited to see where the setting goes in the DLCs and the sequel
I do have to say though if there's one thing that actively impressed me, was the animation quality
belyash and hog7 might've been a bitch to fight but their moves were incredible
also the "crispy critters" isn't a ltieral translation, as in russian he yells about "flying pies", but there is a reason in the game for it, you can find it in one of the computers in the archive
Also, I like the brain damaged protagonist...
💥💥💥
"Woke entertainment." Oh shut the hell up. You couldn't even define woke if you tried.
Who gets offended over what the fridge said
I loved this game, my literal only complaint is that I wish it was longer.
The shooting aspect it's more Hard Reset, Serious Sam and Painkiller for me
it just didnt meet my expectations. i thought the end game was the have way point till it says final
Maybe fucking a fridge is a Robocop 2 reference? XD
9:16 Ah, so it's like the Ripper from Dead Space.
I finally got out of the bunker and when I saw the map I got overwhelmed and haven’t touched it since lol
I don't know where this expectation that "Every game has to be a 9/10 or its bad" came from but its seriously hurting the games industry.
NGL I'm super down bad for the twins. Plus story driven games are more interesting.
All I can say is don't Google it. You may see some things.😆
@@lonewolffang lol okay. Google can certainly scar your eyes if you're not careful.

The music isn't done by Mick Gordon. It's done by Geoffrey Day
Atomic heart is literally on mick gordon's website lol. He definitely did a lot of the combat music.
@@Jarekthegamingdragon I'm not sure what he did, but the OST isn't crediting him. The combat music is also up on Geoff's channel.
There was a ton of composers and sound designers. One person didn't do all the music.

I suppose that phrase "crispy a** critters" is an alternative to "fu**ing pies" in russian localisation))
6:40 I think it's pretty easy to assume what he wants. He clearly just wants humanity to become a hive mind.
The game itself had sold me on just its art direction and chaotic nature alone in the trailers, but after actually playing it, it’s definitely cemented itself into games I can love. There are definitely problems and bugs and the dialogue is laughable but honestly it never got to the point where it ruined my time with the game.
i actually really enjoyed this game
This phrase that protagonist say Ебучие пироги can be translated as fucking pies, or more acurately as fucked pies. But you must understand that word fucking can be translated on russian to 40 different words with different meanings.
In this case it means pies that annoys everyone to the max. Something like that)
Thank god someone agrees with me,like the games really good it’s just that people went into it expecting a completely different game and that’s the problem. Yes the game needs more polish but it’s a banger either way in my opinion
As someone who supports Ukraine and hates the Z shit Russia is going on, the game is really good, no questions asked
Nazi fan boy?
I honestly thought Jarek would complain about how repetitive/buggy the gameplay is, so I’m pleasantly surprised that he actually liked this game
Seeing late game footage of this makes me want to give it another go since I loved the art direction and the combat felt really weighty, but man (for me, personally) I could NOT ignore that writing and voice acting. Horrendous stuff lol.
I like ur new style of video that have ur face showed up commenting on video

Is it just me or does the sensitivity feel horrible on console, I literally just can't aim
Loved Bioshock 1 and 2, so enjoying this, and need to finish it before it leaves GP!
Speaking of Bioshock, both of the main character's voice actors sounded very similar
I'm hoping the DLCs really add content to the game
