    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:

    Appreciate the video, trying to explore my options before I jump into content creation

      Yeah as you start out you might not need much storage but as you make more and more it’s going to be a problem 😅

    @Ben & Kayla in terms of data storage for content creation not for commercial purpose so my plan was vlogging and also photography as well so photos will be more, thou I have looked on my separate SSD over the years close to 2TB of photos that hasn't been edited yet I was thinking along the lines of a Das storage because of internet which I'm limited to.

      DAS are fine the downside with them is that its only accessible on the computer it’s connected to. If you are a solo creator with a single device thats okay 👌
      However if you have multiple devices or people you will want to go with a NAS. Remember your access speed on your NAS will be as fast as your “local network” when you are accessing it at home, your internet speed only matters when you are accessing it outside of your home (if you setup/allow external access). Wired ethernet is always better in this situation and you will probably want 2.5GbE or higher for 4k footage.
      Hopefully that helps!

    Hey Ben, great video. As a career techie, I love how you broke down some basics of this. I use the same sort of backdrops in videos on several channels and I totally need to paint up and develop my own space to create in. I am blessed with a studio, but it is pretty unrefined right now. Following you in hopes you keep sharing tech knowledge!

    What would be the best storage solution for a "travel influencer" who is always travelling, and has content editors that need your content but are far away? Assuming only cloud works for this, and if so, any recommendations?

    • @benandkayla
      @benandkayla  2 роки тому

      Yes, Frame.io (recently bought by adobe) works great for this type of workflow... in the past you would have to send external drives back and forth.
      I would probably keep a separate copy on an external SSD + Upload to Frame.io..... Frame.io storage is quite expensive, so I would only keep active footage on there. The other downside is you will need a good internet connection to upload footage wherever you are.
      There are a few other providers like box.com and dropbox.com , and if you are technical you can use things like Backblaze B2 and AWS S3 to transfer footage to editors. but those require some technical setup
      On the Capture Side:
      You could also look at recording in HEVC/H265 if your editors computer is capable, and reducing to 1080p if you are really concerned about storage costs and internet speed.

    Great info, I have the same microphone in this video but have been unable to plug it into my computer to use only my phone. I notice that you have a device connected to it at the base of the stand (it appears to be). Can you share what that device is and where you plug yours in?

      Sure thats just the Rode Wireless Go II. But if you have the same mic i do there should be a usb c port on the side you can use just connect it to your phone or laptop!

    How much does backblaze cost for 10 TB and more from the nas?
    A fortune .. or have you found a clever way?

    • @benandkayla
      @benandkayla  2 роки тому +1

      Its approx $5 per TB so that would be approximately $50/mo but I only back up what I need to keep not everything… We also record in HEVC for most things which saves space.
      There are other alternatives like Wasabi and Hetzner that I am now trying out which should be much cheaper.
      Even cheaper alternatives are just buying external drives and storing them at a friend’s house far enough away….

    I have 2TB external hard drive that I use to store all my raw footage. I then have a 256GB iPad Air (5th Gen) that I’ll move footage between to edit. Once edited, all the raw footage is deleted from my iPad and through the “Recently Deleted” folder. Right now, I have 0 photos or videos in my iPhoto app on my iPad, but it’s showing there’s 190GB of storage it’s using. I talked to Apple customer support. As a temporary solution, I upgraded to 2TB iCloud storage as it is Mother’s Day and I’m strapped on time. The only other solution I see is completely resetting the device, but I have a ton of keyboard shortcuts and saved notes that I use for UA-cam videos that I don’t want deleted. Please Help 🙏🏼

      🤔Not sure we can fully answer this question and is probably better suited for apple support…
      but is this based on your ipad storage or iCloud storage…. If its ipad you might have files still on the device that are concidered “photos/videos” but not stored in the iphoto app…. Check the files app and see if you have pictures or videos stored somewhere in a folder
      If it’s iCloud you should probably check on it through a browser at iCloud.com and you may have files that are deleted from the ipad but not the iCloud…
      Hopefully this helps
