Costa Rica Hidden Gems: Rainmaker's Forest Swimming Oasis
So we found a few hidden gems in this video first being rainmaker. Rainmaker is a virgin rainforest meaning it was never clear cut, making it a pristine example of rainforests in Costa Rica. We also visited a local restaurant which serves only one dish and they do it well. We finish the vlog filming a number of monkeys and other wildlife around Hotel Parador.

      Thank you appreciate it! Driving can be intense especially is busy areas or on some of the mountain roads, but other times is can be very calm, It does help see more of the Country! (here is our blog post that might help -> benandkayla.com/costa-rica/ ) We went with Vamos (vamosrentacar.com/) as they were very upfront about prices especially as a number of other companies do not tell you about the mandatory insurance so you get an unexpected bill when you try and pick up the car... Vamos also accepts credit card insurance (if your card has that) so that can save a significant amount over a week of renting a car.

    Hy, great video! Was this shot in normal picture profile? Or DLOG-M and color graded?

      @benandkayla 21 день тому

      Neither! This video was filmed in The Rec.2020/HLG Profile -> color graded then Converted to Rec 709! TBH this is the best way to shoot with this camera as it is a published known wide color space and you could do HDR with this as well (but the sensor is somewhat limiting in the HDR world)!

    I've got to agree that D-Log M has no SUPER extra benefit. During colour grading, it seems that it doesn't keep that much to pull up/down. iPhone 15 with a smaller sensor has much more data.

    • @benandkayla
      @benandkayla 25 днів тому

      AGREED… I wished DJI would put FULL D-Log in this camera + wide color space . D-Log-M is just a flat profile with an unknown colorspace…. Apple is winning with their Apple Log in iPhones as its a fully published spec!

    I’ve done it four times, three times with a roomette once with an actual full room with an en suite toilet. It beats the drive, but barely, the ride is very rough because the rails are for freight, not like the smooth rails on European trains, so it’s very hard to sleep due to the shimming of the train. The staff are a bit curt at times but again it’s far better than the drive. The biggest problem Amtrak auto train suffers from is on time performance, they are always late.

    • @benandkayla

    We are taking a VW ID. Buzz across nine countries this year as part of the Baltic Sea Circle Rally. It apprars we have to download the charging app in Europe, not the USA. We've heard getting RFID cards ahead of our trip might help with charging, too. However, we need the apps to get them, apparently. I was surprised about these hurdles in Europe. I figured we'd just tap a credit card and charge up.

    • @benandkayla
      @benandkayla 2 місяці тому

      Def get RFID cards and apps early also get the tesla app if you wanna use tesla station (which are pretty reliable)….. the credit cards work at a few places but most want an account, which is kinda frustrating having to sign up every time… but many of them allowed using your phone NFC (vs an physical RFID card) … We used “A Better Route Planner” ABRP app and it worked pretty well! Good luck with your trip!

    Reg. Tivoli. Most living in Copenhagen go to Tivoli at least once every season and MANY buy a season ticket, so they can go an evening stroll regularly. If you pay just a little more, you can try anything you like, as many times as you like and most buy that entrance ticket. If you want to try over 2 rides, that pass are the cheapest. When we eat pastries, we accompany it with a hot drink, most often coffee. Danes are amongst the top coffee drinkers in the world. The Danish flag , The Dannebrog, are the oldest national flag in continued use in the world and we use it a lot, from making a table more festive, to shop sales and off course, at any special day we want to mark. Denmark do have 4 seasons and we follow the weather forecast as millionaires follow stock market fluctuations. Since so many of us use bicycles, it´s a good idea to know what clothes to wear. H.C Andersen are behind the now know phrase: "To travel is to live", something we Danes have related to since the Viking age and now we use that phrase as much as the: "there are no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing". I hope you enjoyed you visit in Copenhagen. Come back another time and try the summer where we all go into full bloom :-) If you like different foods, then try go to "Reffen", only open from spring to late fall, streetfood from around the world so authentic you can close your eyes and "be there". Next to a canal and you can have a drink, eat food, take a dip, sit next to a bonfire.

    Kastellet formed a part of the fortification around Copenhagen up to the mid 1850 when the fortifications were dismantled over the next 25 years. The lakes in Tivoli Gardens, Østre Anlæg, Botanic Garden and H.C Ørsted Parken are actually remnants of the moat that surrounded the medieval part of Copenhagen up to the mid 1850s. Why the Little Mermaid has become so famous is purely due to the fairytale of Hans Christian Andersen. Why the statue in the harbor has become so famous is as much a mystery to us Danes as it is to many tourists. The medieval part of Copenhagen partly burned down in 1728, 1795 and 1807 so only very few buildings in Copenhagen are actually older than 1728. The oldest is from around year 1400 but most of the buildings are not incredibly old compared to what may be found in the city of Århus, Odense and Roskilde as well as smaller towns like Ribe in Jutland. Tivoli Gardens was founded in 1843 and Walt Disney made numerous visits to Tivoli Garden to get inspiration for his Disneyland in California. Tivoli Gardens is the 3rd oldest Amusement Park in the world. The oldest Amusement Park is located north of Copenhagen but is only open from early spring to early autum. Danish Flags on tables usually means that there is some sort of celebration among the people who will be sitting around the table. This may be a birthday, anniversary etc. Finally, tables may also have small Danish flags placed there during specific occasions such as royal birthdays, religious holidays, Christmas, Easter etc.

    I am 65… And I am totally surprised by this information about German trains all my life I thought of the Germans as being as efficient as a Japanese and Swiss… I lived many years in Japan, and I don’t think I ever experienced a late train… I assumed Germany was the same… Disappointing that the Germans seem to of lost efficiency and punctuality as parts of their national character

    • @benandkayla
      @benandkayla 3 місяці тому

      This was something that was surprising to us as well! We had planned to take almost exclusively to take trains for our Northern Europe trip and we encountered a number of problems with trains both on and off camera… some of the excuses were more acceptable than others (i.e weather and safety …. Surprisingly snow stops trains) but others were baffling. Yes most of the problems were with DB but there was some issues with Swiss and Austrian, Denmark and Dutch trains. Winter is also probably a harsh time to judge…

      The German railways are in a serious crisis. In neighbouring countries still I know a lot of people who can't believe this, as Germany indeed has a very solid image for efficiency. It is bad however.

    International travel by train in Europe is still in such a bad state. Germany is a special case for train punctuality on top of that too. It is by far the most comfortable way to travel in my opinion, but the good trips on high speed rail often needs booking way in advance to be worth the price, as most work on a demand based pricing system. Travel within nations is a different case, many systems are much more punctual than germany's! often you do not need to book specific trips, just by a ticket for a destination and take any train in that direction, if not just checking in and out using contactless payment with most modern credit cards (or day/week passes). I would recommend not even looking at train departure times within the Netherlands for example, from and to most major places frequency would be about every 15 minutes, if not more frequent. The only caveat is that often construction works on the network are executed during weekends and holiday periods to reduce the impact on commutes with the rail network, so it is recommended to check such information prior to travel.

      Thanks for sharing your insights on train travel! We had a similar experience within countries there was very little issues especially within the same city or metro area. The issues came more when traveling across borders or longer distances between cities... We also had a number of issues with Eurail pass as well and lost a number of "Travel Days" due to trains being canceled right before we were to get on them... anyways thanks for the info!

    It's post-Schröder-Germany, what do you expect? The Bundesbahn was great, the Deutsche Bahn (which is a private company - despite being owned by the state...yeah I know, strange!) sucks (I was stuck on München HBF (Main Train Station in Munich) for 4 hours once (on Christmas Eve and in negative degrees celsius, so quite cold!) and ever since I try to AVOID the Bahn!

    Well the title is a bit over the top. There is no better transport in Europe than the train. Unfortunately the German railways are in a serious crisis, something that is not yet known to everyone. But the continent has lots of fine railway networks (to mention some countries where everything runs smoothly: Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Czechia, Austria, the Scandinavian countries etc). Busses are not really an alternative in Europe. So please travel a bit more before giving such misleading titles to videos ...

      Not forgetting Spain which has a superb high speed rail network. And please stop talking about "Europe", it's a continent, not a country.

      @@digidol52 Yes Spain definitely deserves a place in the list, which was not meant to be exhaustive. I didn't mention Poland either by example, where the railways are also doing well.

      Thanks for the info on smoother rail networks, we will need to give a few of those a second chance... Winter was prob a harsh time to judge. We did have a good experience flying for some of the longer distances between cities.... and yeah the title is prob too generalist.

    I lived 16 years in Germany during the hay day of trains 80-90’s, my recent visits 2016, and 2018 the trains were fine for our travels. The ICE is ok, however understandable how the trains run and connect does help in planning and flow. I do understand there have been strikes, construction, and people shortages that have caused delays. Planning on returning July 2024 and will see how our luck goes as we will again travel with trains, and local u and a bahns.

    I feel for you that you had such a bad experience with the German trains. (Unfortunately everybody does.) But, please, do not mistake the German train network as indicative of trains in Europe in general. It is an outlier (or maybe "joke" would be a better term to describe it). In most European countries that I have been to, trains are an awesome way to get around

      @@benandkayla It depends a bit on for what purpose. For efficient travel, France's TGV (high-speed train) is great. But also Spain has good connectivity, especially between the major cities, and at good prices. A night train can be nice for the experience (and you save on the hotel fee for that night - but the train is not cheap). For example Austria's Nightjet trains, with various options to and from Vienna (but again: avoiding German routes might be a good idea). For sightseeing you may want to go for a scenic route. For example the Bernina Express or Glacier Express through the Swiss Alps (but be aware that anything in Switzerland is comparatively expensive).

      Germany has big troubles with their schedule. It is a LOT of maintenance on tracks, and it is also due to capacity problems. Hamburg is one of the worst. It will be a problem for a couple of years. The trick is never rely on connecting trains. Make a break in your schedule during a shift of trains.

    German trains are a joke. Swiss literally banned some Deutsche Bahn trains because the constant delays of german trains disrupted the Swiss own train network. The also strike constantly and trains get cancelled. Not a good example of Europe. Dutch trains are very punctual for a change.
