Hi all! Please keep the comments coming! Here are some clarifications as we have gotten lots of comments on the following! 1. I know I call the droids BB8's and R2 units, this is because several of you and I know there are a lot of differences and lots of variations, but most people don't. For the sake of simplicity, it’s much easier to just call them BB8’s an R2’s. 2. Price: 106.49 with tax. This is the cost for both each.
I would love an R unit. It's so cool how they talk to each other. R1: what's up R2: oh nothing, just enslaved to the system, these people control my thoughts and feelings.
@@radioactivereep1840 they don’t “talk to each other at all” they just beep at random intervals that happen to usually be between each other. There is a great test/explanation of this on The Dan-o channel

Him: the droids aren’t interacting Me who just watched a droid interacting video: they don’t interact they just have a beeping cycle and thee bbs was too long
CJ not sure what you are stating. If you have one droid, after 5 minutes it will shut off and then nothing happens at all. Two or more droids tuned on, remotes turned off every few minutes or so one will set the other/s off and this will continue on and on until turned off. This will continue about every 5 minutes or so. Interaction
The only time the droids appear to be interacting with one another is when they are in the parks. This is because there is a blue tooth connection that will send a signal to the Droid and the signal reaches each droid at different times. Making it seem like their talking to each other. When you get out of the parks though and at home they will not do this. The delay is far too long for it to be considered interacting with each other. It’s kind of like the same technology as the interactive wizarding wands at Harry Potter. They will react while in the park but not as much once you leave.
Angel Juliet not true at all, I have two droids at home and they will talk back and forth all day until I turn them off. I’ll make a video about this and the personality chips
@@AngelJuliet The wands at Harry Potter are a completely different technology! It uses IR cameras to trace the spells, not Bluetooth or any built-in electronics.
The Orlando Wizard that would be great! Because I know I’ve seen other videos where the person bought a BB and an R2 and tests whether their talking back and forth at home, but there is a delay. A long enough delay that the person recording felt they weren’t directly talking but just making random beeps and boops. Are you saying that they seem to be responding immediately? Or at least with enough time inbetween that it seems like their communicating?

Super excited me and my dad are going to Disney World next week and we are both building one!! I'm happy because that way my droid will have a friend :)
When we got a glimpse of the kids playing with their droids, it was interesting to see a BB unit bump something and it lost its head! I hate it when that happens.
I finally went to Disneyland 2 years ago, and I was so glad I got the R-Unit. I ended up buying the accessory packs, personality chip, backpack, and extra tiles for my droid, and they were worth it! I also like the C1-10 droids because you can customize and place the accessories on those too. They didn’t add those droids at the time yet when I went, but my mom bought Chopper who has the same build. The BB units kind of disappointed me with the lack of parts and accessories. The body was a bit floppy too and the head can get detached easily. The design is kind of inconvenient to have to take the droid apart to turn it on and off. I’ve also seen some people damage their BB unit if it is on rough terrain, and the body will get dented.
Could not have said it all better! Agree with you 100% Im glad your enjoying the R-Unit. Now, have you thought about custom painting it? or weathering it? ahh the ideas running through your head!
My advice is this… If you’re visiting the parks, be it as a resident or not, every year, month, etc. basically on a frequent bases get the R-Series, or C-series since your most likely to keep coming back easily for new parts and upgrades to it. If you’re coming to Disney as a one shot trip with family and know you won’t return for a while, get the B-Series droid since you won’t be back often. The B-series will also impress those who live from afar.
For me, despite the R units being better overall, I find myself more attracted to the BB units because they're closer to life size. The R units are downright tiny, and it feels odd, but the BB units are only slightly small compared to the movie, so it looks a lot nicer to me. Plus, if ever go to Galaxy's Edge, I'll realistically only be able to get one droid if at all, so the interaction would only really matter to me while at the park.
I just built a BB unit and I love it! The interactions around the park and with other droids are cool! But if you only have one droid then interactions won’t matter! So go with whatever unit you want! It won’t matter unless your whole family has droids!
BB units are the size of beach balls in real life. like they require two arms to pick them up. They are not little. A real BB-8 is suppose to be 2 feet tall
I just built a BB unit last week and like it a lot. I am in my 50s and still have my slightly smaller RC R2 unit from when I was a kid in the 70s. From reading these comments I wonder if I should have built an R2 unit. But for the BB unit using it on carpet vs hardwoods makes a lot of difference.
We built both. Both have their pros and cons. BB8 is better on carpeted floor but is a pain to reset. In fact, I had to send it back through guest services because we couldn't open the body to reset, change batteries etc. The R2 unit( I went with he dark side version...all black and red ). Easy to assemble & reset but does horribly on carpet and worse transitioning from hardwood to carpet
Yeah, when I go, I’m going for the R2 unit. I always thought the BB unit looked too off balance when it rolled, but now hearing other cons...I’m going with R2 unit.
Out of curiosity, I get it being hard to hear the BB units when you’re at the park because of all the noise around, but can you hear them any better when you have them at home where there’s much less noise? Because I want to build a BB unit when I go, but before I decide, I want to know if I’ll be able to hear it when I bring it home.
StrummFan217 it’s much easier to hear when at home. I have a new video coming up at 9 am EST Saturday that has a BB unit so you can see and hear how it is outside of the land
Jacob Despain this all depends on what you are doing with it. If it’s just sitting there, no problem, R/C head will fall off from time to time, interaction with Land and/or other droids is sporadic at best
The Orlando Wizard, that's what I'm talking about. The head rarely fell off in my bag, and interaction around batuu west was good (he really liked being around Smuggler's run the best). I even had some droid to droid interaction over in California Adventure which was blew my mind because I heard that droids actually didn't interact with each other outside of the land. You wouldn't think there would be a difference between Disneyland and Disneyworld, but maybe there is 🤔
Jacob Despain no difference in the lands with the droids, rarely is still falling off and the head falling off during remote control is often. I never said they never reacted, it’s just not as consistent as the R2 units.
It’s not that hard, honestly. When I built my R Unit droid, the staff was super helpful and told me which leg went on which side. It was easy to use their automatic screwdriver to attach the legs too.
The backpacks are available in Batuu! There is a new version that I feel is much better! A new video is coming this week about what's new in Batuu and we talk about the new backpack!
I notice cast members let people get away with alot of things such as dressing up or having your droid out and playing with it. I mean thats what i saw my last trip there
Where it at so it is ok to dress up in Star Wars garb at Hollywood Studios. They have a mat to play with your droids and you are still not supposed to play with your droids on the ground other than the mat for safety reasons
Well thats what i saw i mean it doesnt affect me either way but its just something I noticed and most people don’t really care they just move out of the way most of the time
In-universe tho, definitely going bb unit. Literally better than every R series unit by far, which makes sense cuz it's the future. It's faster, more adaptable, can not tip over, can point literally every direction easily, perfect for repairing my ship quickly.
Mine bb8 responses to me talking every single time even when I have him connect to my phone. And from what I heard is that there all terrain. Rt unit is not all terrain and mine is pretty stable. But I'm also buying a rt unit as well. 🙂
How can you tell if the "motivator" is working? I built an R2 unit and it chirped a few times as I walked through and once when I was on the boat leaving Hollywood, but it didn't seem a constant thing.
Ok so my two sons bought one of each. The BB8 is harder to control but easier to build. My younger son built the BB8 and it activated right away. My oldest built the R2 but was harder to build and took several times for them to activate. The R2 also sometimes doesn't move as smooth.
That is not the norm for activation, normally they would both activate first time. Most people find that putting the shells together on the BB units hard. I would think you might have a bad R2 unit. So a fun thing to do - If you turn both of the droids on around the same time and make sure the remotes are OFF, keep them near each other and they will talk back and forth all day every few min!
@@TheOrlandoWizard yeah my oldest came out of Savis saying he had to replace some stuff. But it is fun watching them communicate. My 12 year old was able to put the BB8 together in no time when my 19 year old had the harder time. But my 12 year old is good at electronics and building things.😃
The Orlando Wizard I was gonna do a BB system but now I’m really leaning towards an R system. It’s such a hard decision though because my dad and I are both gonna make one and we want to figure out what colors we want for everything and it’s so complex!!
Chris Noel I have two R2 units and they talk back and forth all day! Love them! Picking the colors and head is so hard! Take your time to look at the options before you build
The Orlando Wizard Definetly will! One of the main reasons I’m think R system is cus I wanna hear the noises. Do you suggest I get any personality chips? My dad told me he thought he heard the one was better than the other for the 3 kinds
id deff go R2 you get more for your money and they can actually be played with ive yet to see anyone be bale to drive a bb very far with out the head shooting off. it would be nice if they made other types of droids. off hand they could do treadwell droids or T7 droid from old republic era or even the new D0
The R unit droid does work on carpet but since it has smaller wheels to move around if you have hairs or a shaggy carpet they will get hair caught in them and you will have to find a way to remove it. They also need to be on a flat surface
Carson Clair it’s lots of fun! So much to do there! If you want to ride rise of the resistance, be there when the park opens and use the Disney app to get a boarding pass! Or you won’t get on!
Bill agree! Except as I stated in other comments I understand that and so do you, but the majority of people have no idea so for the sake of simplicity it’s much easier to just call them BB8’s an R2’s
Problem with the BB units is from the design of BB-8 itself. It's a ball with a head. Works great in cinema but not in real life. R2 on the other hand is a bin with wheels. Works great and suits the dystopian Star wars theme. As R2 has less moving or complex parts accessories work great with it and so does making the thing. As BB entire body moves it makes accessories a lot harder and and designing and making it is also a slight challenge. It's nice how Disney still tried though and got something which sort of works
Thanks for the advice. I'm going in 3 weeks and I've been on the fence about which one to get. I wanted a BB unit but might just go for the R2. The head falling off and falling apart doesn't look fun.

It won’t matter unless your whole family has droids!
i was literally thinking the exact same thing, i completely agree
they are definetely closer to life size, but not "only a bit smaller" iirc they are about knee height in the movie?
BB units are the size of beach balls in real life. like they require two arms to pick them up. They are not little. A real BB-8 is suppose to be 2 feet tall
They are 26.5" tall
It’s now 2023………have the BB units gotten any better? Are they at least as loud as the R2 units now? Do their heads stay on any better?
No, unfortunately :(
Great video , so happy you made it I absolutely adored both and couldnt decide but this really helped me out so thank you 😁
ThatLazyAsshole you are very welcome! Please like and subscribe if you haven’t yet and please share
I personally would recomend it! having them both on at the same time "turning off the remotes!", every few min, they will talk to each other!
I really would love to make a R2 unit so bad I love bb8 but I want to make a R2 unit. R2D2 was my favorite character in start wars when I was little
I completely understand!
How cool!! I’m go next weekend to Star Wars land!
did you build a droid??
I bet when the droids talk to other droids, they cuss at each other
Carlos Martinez LOL, I think they talk about us!
This is the video I’ve been looking for
Mohamed Murshed thank you so much! Please make sure you subscribe and share the video!
I like the bb better bc the way it looks and spins, but the R is better
XTS_eddychtylus I do agree, I do like how the BB units look
@@TheOrlandoWizard But i might go there sometime but, wich would you recomend
XTS_eddychtylus like I said in the video, the BB units still have issues, so I go with the R units
@@TheOrlandoWizard ok i tought to myself that
We built both.
You are spot on! Thank you so much for your review!
Yeah, when I go, I’m going for the R2 unit. I always thought the BB unit looked too off balance when it rolled, but now hearing other cons...I’m going with R2 unit.
You will have a lot of fun!
Thanks for the tips, im still making the bb-8 unit. But i found the video very informative, ill sub and have a good day
glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the sub!!!
I saw a GONK DROID in the droid park
I wish we could build them.
Highly informative video. Thanks for these details!
nickles96 thank you very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
I made an R2.
Im thinkin of naming him R0-B10X
*im kidding thats a terrible name idea I’m bad at names-*
Kingwolf2571 awesome!
Uhm
Yeah I’m probably not, lol-
@Dominic Dardano Funny. Probably just gonna... not name him? I don’t know.
Just call it Thimoty or something.
i love this, super cool! i love how you have such a positive attitude at all times, super wholesome and enjoyable to watch :)
Yizoa thank you ! I glad you enjoyed the video!
I would pick an r2 unit because bb units dont have any pink. Pink is my favorite color and I would love a white droid with pink accents.
Don't forget, you can always paint one!
This helped me a lot on what droid to choose thankyou
Airwalk 09 I’m very glad you enjoyed it!
Where do you get personality chips?
Daliah F they are found on the back wall of droid depot
The Orlando Wizard thank you for telling me.
This is just me, but I haven't really had these problems with my BB-8
Great video man, hope your channel grows
Natendo thank you very much!
I really recommend the BB8 units, because their very easy to build unlike the R2 units, they don't give directions on which leg goes on which side.
If it was not for the heads falling off the BB units and the lack of accessories, I would like them more.
It’s not that hard, honestly. When I built my R Unit droid, the staff was super helpful and told me which leg went on which side. It was easy to use their automatic screwdriver to attach the legs too.
Where did you get the backpack? It's amazing and wry useful
The backpacks are available in Batuu! There is a new version that I feel is much better! A new video is coming this week about what's new in Batuu and we talk about the new backpack!
@@TheOrlandoWizard amazing, can't wait! Thanks for your help 😊
@@anabellapellecer5892 you are very welcome!
Well thats what i saw i mean it doesnt affect me either way but its just something I noticed and most people don’t really care they just move out of the way most of the time
Thanks for the tips
Glad it was helpful!
It might just be the First order personality chip you put in the BB unit
Maggas888 the chips don’t change how often it interacts only how it interacts
Honestly, I’m building a BB8 unit for my first time for looks (they are just super cute), and perhaps I’ll build an R2 unit my second go round.
I hope Disney will allow us to build actual size droids
Anthony astromech.net/
macy coco no, life size R2 D2
My brother and I made both him an R me a BB. Let me tell you go with the R unit you can go with so many more options and way cooler.
I like both of them but I wanna build a bb8 since its pretty cool and cute both of them are cute actually but yeah its cool
Agree!
I've loved the R2 units so much, I'd make R2-A6 from The Phantom Menace.
good choice!
Do you have to use the fancy backpack to carry them around or can you just use a regular backpack?
Gianna C you don’t have to use the backpack, but it was designed for the droids and allows for you to see and hear your droid
It has a string to attach to the head to hold it on, handy.
lcflngn it’s a chain that is very hard to put on the BB unit and gets easily tangled
In-universe tho, definitely going bb unit. Literally better than every R series unit by far, which makes sense cuz it's the future. It's faster, more adaptable, can not tip over, can point literally every direction easily, perfect for repairing my ship quickly.
Max Collier enjoy! Build what your heart tells you!
I want a BD unit. I think it looks cute
BD?
Might build one when they get more options. I want a dark green r2 unit and a battle droid
Greg Ryan there are several groups on Facebook that help with custom painting
Mine bb8 responses to me talking every single time even when I have him connect to my phone. And from what I heard is that there all terrain. Rt unit is not all terrain and mine is pretty stable. But I'm also buying a rt unit as well. 🙂
connecting to the phone is very instant. but your not wrong about the R unit not being all terrain!
How can you tell if the "motivator" is working? I built an R2 unit and it chirped a few times as I walked through and once when I was on the boat leaving Hollywood, but it didn't seem a constant thing.
Use the remote and check to see if everything is operational
Do you have to pay extra for a personality chip?
Hudzin yes, they are about 14.95
Ok so my two sons bought one of each.
@@christinasweetheart2810 try putting personality chips in and watch the interaction!
Is anyone else watching the old man quietly judge with his mouth open near the 5 minute mark lmao?
LOL, I saw that as well!
This was really helpful!!
Chris Noel thank you!
The Orlando Wizard I was gonna do a BB system but now I’m really leaning towards an R system. It’s such a hard decision though because my dad and I are both gonna make one and we want to figure out what colors we want for everything and it’s so complex!!
The Orlando Wizard I’m gonna show him this video!
Isnt that head a BB9?? And the "r2" is a R3
Review the pinned comment at the top, as to why I use BB8 and R2 and not just refer to them as to what they really are.
had no problem of my R unit and BB unit talking
Anthony Day good to know!
I want a 3cpo so I can learn Japanese
Conrad Colby c3po?
@@captaincaptains9063 yes
A protocol droid that has a Bluetooth dulingo app
How cool would that be!
I absolutely fell in love with BB8 and I would love to build one and name her BB3 and she’ll be purple and white
Ashley Urban if you build one at WDW let me know!
I’ll keep that in mind soon thanks for being interested 😉🙏🏻❤️
Ashley Urban if I have the time, I can film it for you
id deff go R2 you get more for your money and they can actually be played with ive yet to see anyone be bale to drive a bb very far with out the head shooting off. it would be nice if they made other types of droids. off hand they could do treadwell droids or T7 droid from old republic era or even the new D0
There is now a new droid at the park
I'm an OG Star Wars fan, but I really want a pink R2-KT Astromech...
You can do that! if the colors don't suit you, lots of people custom-paint their droids!
Does the R2 work on carpet?
Da Infinity Stonks thin carpet yes
Mark lol
The R unit droid does work on carpet but since it has smaller wheels to move around if you have hairs or a shaggy carpet they will get hair caught in them and you will have to find a way to remove it. They also need to be on a flat surface
Is there like a speed difference?
I think BB units are a bit faster but hard to control
Imagine how freaky it is to be able to build a protocol droid tho.
Thats probably why anakin turned out the way he did
Or a K2-SO droid...
How cool would that be??
I'm going to Disney World Galaxy's Edge next month
Carson Clair it’s lots of fun! So much to do there! If you want to ride rise of the resistance, be there when the park opens and use the Disney app to get a boarding pass! Or you won’t get on!
@@TheOrlandoWizard thanks i'll keep that in mind
Was the first order chip the reason it didn’t real talk
Maybe!

Jay Boi thank you so much! I’m very glad you enjoyed the video!
The Orlando Wizard Thank you so much 😊
I got a r2 my sister got a bb
Does the r2 work well on carpet?
Thanks this really helped A LOT
No problem!
It's BBs and Rs, not BB8s and R2s. BB8 is the name of the Resistance droid, R2 is the prefix attached to R units with the 2nd type of head.
100% correct!! Now that they are expanding with new products, it should get exciting this year!
0/10 cant build a gonk
Humor Tumor lol
Yeah I know
Thanks for the advice. I'm going in 3 weeks and I've been on the fence about which one to get. I wanted a BB unit but might just go for the R2. The head falling off and falling apart doesn't look fun.
Glad I could help! What did you get? also would love to see a pic of your droid! you can post on our page on facebook!
