I know most of us aspire to be attackers like Nezmetdinov or Tal-probably at least 90% of us. But after watching your videos, I've come to appreciate the importance of positional chess. Keep up the great work!
WOW!!! The depth of this game is astonishing as was the commentary! Great job on this evaluation and illumination of all the calculations in such a complex game. Mind blown here.
Wonderful game! Not just Nimzowitsch's brilliance, but also Johner's resourcefulness, and, as always, Chess Wisdom's insightful and in depth commentary.
A fantastic game, one of the most instructive my modesty has ever seen. Also very well commented indeed. Thank You, Chess Wisdom. Keep on the excellent work.
hello, great video. I have a suggestion (that would make the game easier for me to follow), I hope you will consider it: you show a lot of very cool variations, and that's great, do not stop doing that. But, sometimes I get a bit lost in the variations compared to what is the actual game. I would suggest you have some kind of "variation indicator" on the screen (you have plenty of room on the right side of the screen), for example a big text somewhere that says "Variation from the move E6", and it stays on screen while we look at the variation. And then when you come back to the game you change the text to "Actual game" or something. Or maybe some kind of color code where you have the orange board for actual game and change the board color to blue for variations. I know it will be a pain to edit, and most likely, stronger players than me have no problem following, but personally that would help a lot. In any case if you do it or not, thank you.
"Epic Chess" has solved this problem. When showing lines not played in the game, colours on the board appear slightly lighter. Check it up; in my opinion it's a good solution. I recommend it to "Chess Wisdom", whose presenations are otherwise great indeed.
Thank you for informing me about this problem, I wasn't aware of it. I actually can't edit videos, I've never done it, but I might learn it in the future. But I will keep your suggestion in mind, and will try to make it clearer in the next videos.
No one does this, and it's unnecessary. It doesn't matter what's the "actual game," as real chess players know it's equally necessary to consider it all, regardless of what was eventually played. Just get a little better instead of asking chess commentators to adopt to a new format that caters to your personal preference as a complete beginner.
I was a little hesitant to watch a 27 minute chess video on just one game. But it was worth it! Nimzowitsch was in it for the long haul. The battle for the c4 pawn made me think of the saying "The threat is more powerful than its fulfillment"
Fantastic! I will have to replay it many times to even begin to grasp the the of his thinking. I would put Nimzowitsch sharing second and third place with Lasker, after Fischer. Thank you for the excellent presentation! 🙏
One of the best games ever played! One can still nowadays appreciate the value of Nimzovic revolution, how deeply it influenced the strategic concepts.
I think White didn't want the black bishop to X-ray his queen on e2. For example, after Qe2 and Ba6, Black might think about Nxd5 as the c4 pawn would be pinned.
I don't think x-ray is much of a problem considering that pawn is blockaded anyway. Its just thay Qe2 blocks the rook from coming to the kingside for rescue. Also, in case of Qe2, black will never move it's bishop from A6 ensuring that Queen is forever stuck guarding that pawn and rook is always out of play.

The problem is White cannot prevent the opening of the h file, after which his king will be in trouble. If White plays f5 after Kg7, the following variation is possible: 17... hxg4 18.hxg4 - Rh8+ 19.Kg2 - gxf5 20.gxf5 - Qxf5 and Black is up a pawn, while the white king isn't safe.
Seconding another comment on making it very obvious when you are showing a variation vs. the actual game. Either like an icon, or turn the border frame around the board a different color (gray?) when showing variations. Otherwise, great video!
I would love to travel back in time and bring with with me Nimz, Phillz, Morphz, Steinz, Laskz and Retiz to play against current crop of worlds top 10 players in a Dubai Masters.
Yes, you're right, Rg1 is also possible. In this case the black queen will move to f3 with a check and after the white king moves to e1 the black rook captures on e3 and Black wins.
Nimzowitsch is *TOO* careful and methodical, some would even say *"SLOW"...* If it were Tal playing, he would have finished the game by move 25.... *....AT THE LATEST !!! :P* .
@materesasantiago1858 The explanation is necessary and to the point. I benefited from listening to the talking. Perhaps you have a better understanding to share with the world?
some of the best chess explanations on the internet ... great stuff ... I also like that you cover lots of classic games

you are a real chess G. This is absolutely awesme

Nimzowitsch was one of the greatest strategic thinkers in chess. 😊
(21:10) Qb3 - severely limiting the reach of his queen. Wouldn't Qe2 have been better?
I think White didn't want the black bishop to X-ray his queen on e2. For example, after Qe2 and Ba6, Black might think about Nxd5 as the c4 pawn would be pinned.

@@chesswisdom Qe2 - Ba6; Bxe4 (preventing Nxd5)?
Thank you - again. Much appreciated.
a5!!!!!! Nimzowitsch is such genius - it is understandable why he proved so influential.
Hello 👋 brother can you make video on Emory Tate games and please put images and name front of game it confuse
this all started because of 9. Nd2 if he did that 9. e4 it would be ok. OR better after 3.Nc3 Bb4, 4. Qc2 d5 5. a3 Bxc3 6. Qc3 ...
At 11:11 why is rh8 such a big threat white can play f5 next move right?

27:02 Why is the King forced to e2? Why can't white play Rg1?
Yes, you're right, Rg1 is also possible. In this case the black queen will move to f3 with a check and after the white king moves to e1 the black rook captures on e3 and Black wins.
White should have resigned when the queen started her march
Back in the day when people played 3 moves ahead. these days its all theory and people play 3 games ahead...
Why would your plan be, ‘expose your own king?
Very crafty.

What an incredible game by Nimzovitch. Nowadays he would be accused of cheating; enough accusations and the poor sportsmanship.
Only by Kramnik.
