For those saying that this really doesn't seem like a criticism of capitalism, I'm just taking the words from the author: "This helped me make the article conceptually rigorous and characterize it as what I want to be: a critical allegory of capitalist society in general and colonialism in particular."
Now I know what to expect from this, thanks.
Communists don't realize they speak communist.
Oh don't worry as I said in a previous comment. I'm not holding it against you, I can't speak for everyone of course. You'll probably get that one person. Still I just can't help but find the message out of place personally. It kind of taints (not ruin) a relatively interesting SCP to me personally.
For those interested, below is an explanation of how the article criticizes capitalism, taken from the SCP-3003 discussion page (i.e. not my personal opinion).
"The fundamental driver of economic activity under capitalism, is profit (or capital accumulation, to be more fancy). It determines what products get produced, what companies go under and stay up, what gets built and where, and what proportion of people end up working where. In that sense, our individual agency is completely irrelevant. We're simply seeking the action which creates the most profit. It's a process that's completely alien, and independent of human will. Things aren't being *done* because people will them to be done, they're being done because that's what the internal logic of capitalism demands.
In the same way, humans on SCP-3003 are stripped of their humanity. They're simply focused on maximizing beetle numbers, and their amazing technological advances and prosperity are the side-effects of that (just like the advances made due to the profit motive). They're obsessed with beetles, their tactile and auditory qualities. Have you ever felt a dollar bill in your hand or smelt it? It's the same kind of sensation.
In aggregate, we have no more agency than the denizens of SCP-3003. We just have money instead of beetles."

"There is no violence in bug people society." "... people's organs are torn off, causing them to die with unearable pain."
Silly Dutch space bugs.
They don't see it as violence. And by "they" I mean the ruling culture of the planet. Wide-spread AI is taboo. Why? Because it would not cater to bug culture. It would suggest other means of existing that are more efficient and that don't include the god damn bugs. Their reproductive methods are kept secret, and causes them to get emotionally upset when questioned about it. Meaning, once they expose their method of reproduction, it poses the threat of others interrupting it with questions and comments. And since their reproduction is so controlled and precise, to reveal it is to take the risk that someone has knowledge of what could essentially kill their entire culture. And in the case of SCP, one could understandably see why telling them any information about how to bring about the downfall of your society is not a good idea. That being said, kill the shit out of them O5s. Lol.
When violence is perpetrated on the terms of a superculture, it is often not seen as violence. You could say the bugs have a mOnOPoLy oN viOlEnCE

If you tear people's ears off, they will definitely die with unearable pain.
@@irongalleon7432 Thing is bugs don't do it to their own individual species. last I checked bugs don't sing "kumbaya" together. It becomes a problem to attack or harm your own. That is unless your species is cannibalistic. Humanity (or those people attempt to say pass for human) is a cannibalistic society perpetuated by those who treat humanity as an amalgam of species and justify injustice against other humans as no different than a Lion eating a Water Buffalo. I say we should treat them as though another species if they see the same competition and wanna act like animals.

The best strategy would be to overwhelm them, there are plenty of entities that could destroy them in SCP, the point is that most would demand a cost. Also, the enemy likely lacks proper armies since it doesn't experience war, giving us a major advantage. Also, we have the GOC and other supernatural groups, they don't appear to have access to magic, which would even the odds. The real problem is that you'd have to destroy enough of their technology, fortunately we do have an AI, which could affect them if we snuck it in.

fun fact “utopia” literally means “no place” referencing how utopias cannot exist.
Toaster Yeah, I learned this recently. A very important definition more people should know.
SCP-3003 is a lie.
Anyone who belives that SCP-3003 exists is to report to the nearest regimental commisar for disciplinary action.
Utopia means what we say it means, or rather what Thomas More says it means. Ou-topos, is the Greek term for "no place", which is said to be the word he derived "Utopia" from. Which then leads people to point out that Eu-topos, another Greek term, and basically the same fucking word, sound, grunt, or whatever you want to call it, turns out to have the literal meaning of "good place". Being that it's pretty much the same damn uttering, both versions pointing to a place or non-place, both could honestly be the original word intent. Not that I'd put it past writers who are so far up their own ass they love to muse over the suicide of their own species, most (if not all) due to whatever traumas or so-called injustices that have personally affected them, thereby negating any objective narrative they could have ever tried to put forth. Point being, it could simply be derived from Eu-topos which means "good place" which more aptly fits the description and leaves out the "Diane from Cheers"-esque bullshit that is author's satire being seen as some superior form of intelligence. That is what we call editorialism, and based solely upon the the fact that they are heard and marginally recognized by history or current day public, thus they assume themselves to be smart and correct as a byproduct. Which everyone knows to not be the case, except for they themselves and their fellow philosophical cult members who serve as the "yes man" wall between this strain of logic and reality. You're still the shittiest burger flipper at your local McDonald's franchise, searching for a reason to not kill yourself upon the realization that you have no practical use other than to sustain your own life functions, which then you realize is actually a detriment to society. In short, you're only good at being horrible at anything you do and escapism is your only salvation.
Toaster that’s so cool!

[*Starship Troopers theme intensifies*]
A "Utopia" you say? Oh I've heard this one before, there's always a catch. If it seems to good to be true, than it is.
This isn't what tales like this aim for, though it is what any good commentary fiction should strive for. The real "catch" is that utopia is dystopia, a perfect society would lose what is being human.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't fight for humanity, people's rights and equality, but to believe that one knows what is the best future is naive at best, and horrific at worst.
@@geekjokes8458 Exactly what I meant by "if it seems to good to be true, it probably is." Translated, Utopia means "no place", as in imaginary. My joke was that every so-called "utopia" or "paradise" I've encountered in fiction, no matter how good it looks on the surface, is built at some horrific cost, be it Morlocks, individuality, all crimes punished by the death penalty, or thought police. Just stream a photo of 096 to all those pests; problem solved...
Considering every single person on the planet is infected with Marce and working with unison, as well as having state-owned global communication networks, it would probably be extremely easy to transmit both visual and auditory memetic hazards to the people of SCP-3003. They would have absolutely no cyber security measures whatsoever, and it only really takes a few auditory kill agents and a photo of SCP-096 on every screen to wipe their civilization out.
Hey man, wanna look at this mountain that can house 3003-1?
Sure!

You don’t even have to show a photo. Get those four famous pixels and just put them randomly around the cities. I suspect the planet would last a couple months until Shy Guys kills them all

Out of all of the scp commentary channels you have to be the best. There is something about your voice and the way you format everything. Amazing work.
Always loved this SCP. Reminds me of 'the whisperer' virus in the wayfarer series, for those familiar.
Sounds cool who is the author? Or we talking a tv show

You're my favorite channel. Please never stop making videos.
The sarkics would love them.
Maybe, except they'll lose their religion and worship marce instead.
After infection, we're all going to love them.
Most of the Sarkics want humanity to return back to only using their instincts and abandon technology, they also desire to achieve godhood which makes them slightly individualistic as well.
Although the bug people willingly let themselves get infected by other organisms they still use rationality and technology to solve their problems.

Why I think the "bug people" refuse to create AI is probably because the AI, being completely artificial in nature, would be unable to get infected with the parasite, and it would hardly understand the need to suply and care for the Marce, perhaps even starting to question the bugpeople simply because their judgement wouldn't be clouded by the parasite.
History ends when everyone agrees on something.
So if everybody agreed that racism is bad history would just end? I think there are some things that need to be agreed upon by everyone if we want a world that is good for all, but I see what you mean if this beleif is enforced militantly and you are killed tor believing otherwise
@@zoeissleepy708
Yes, if everyone on the planet agreed not to discriminate along the lines of heritage or genetic difference that would be nice, but it would also be a contravention of human nature.
Hatred for the outgroup comes from the same instinct as kindness for the ingroup. History ends when conditions come about which would allow for a universal agreement like that.
@@someguy4405 well good news to you because what you just said is completly untrue. There is no evidence to back up your claim that humans are inherently biased against other "racial groups". This claim is ridiculous and not backed up in history or science. Just look at the Roman's for instance, they had a mixed race society yet they were the greatest society to ever come about in the old world, so I dont understand what you mean by in group or out group when it pertains to skin color :3
@@zoeissleepy708
You should look into how the Romans treated non-Romans and people from outside their ethnicity.
@@someguy4405 u realize roman ethnicity and citizenship was not based on "race" or ancestry. Any free adult male could become a "roman". They were a multiethnic group n there was little discrimination based on ancestry which is what most people mean when they say race. But romans weren't very discriminative of other ethnicities outside of the northern goths whom they were constantly fighting over borders with. Romans were more sexist than anything lol. But ye I agree it definitely wasnt some free for all utopia but they weren't exactly racism. They more were just pissy whenever they had uncharted territory a group wouldn't let them dominate but it wasn't like romans had anti mediterranean mentality or something

I always look forward to these videos. They don’t come often, but when I do, I love em. Also, this SCP is a pretty good one.
The way that the story could be interpreted for either Capitalism or Communism's end states is one hell of a "We live in a society"
The author’s a massive commie so I doubt he intended it to refer to communism, unless he’s a total antihumanist psycho. Though communists were never very smart
there is nothing about capitalism on the way of thinking of these bug people, they're full communism/fascism mode.
I like to think that if enough time passes and the Foundation still doesn't find a way to stop them, they can just release... pretty much any dangerous SCP to stop them all. 682 and 096 would have a field day with this place.
These are great videos and I constantly look forward to them.
