out of all the videos I've seen this is the best property conservation and pretty much the only one I've seen. great job and trying to actually protect property as we are trained.

Thank you Brian. It is one of the more over looked and under used functions of our job. I wish I could say we do a bang up job of salvage on every fire, but we are certainly making great improvements as a department.

Was about to say the same thing. Great example of "customer service" and preserving the property. Fantastic video that shows the deployment tarps and property conservation.

Absolutely agree. This one gave you guys a great opportunity to prepare before attack since the fire was relatively contained at that moment, and you guys took advantage of that time to consider stop-loss. Great job!

Can someone please explain why if the fire is in the attic, and they don't have an exact location, why they're pulling ceiling in the middle of the room instead of at the doorway? Why wouldn't they make an inspection hole at the doorway to make sure the fire isn't behind them, I feel like they're exposed standing there just pulling ceiling everywhere. I'm not criticizing I'm honestly just curious.

We often utilize a thermal imaging camera to find fire in the attic. That makes it pretty easy to know where to start dropping ceiling

Now you see American fire fighters! This is how you do it. The fire is in the attic. Go inside, cut a SMALL hole in the ceiling, insert a nozzle OPEN TO A 35% CONE and wave it around to cover the maximum burning material at a time. A solid stream at close distance covers a small area and leaves too much burning material which creates steam from the mist. Also, don't open the entire ceiling like they did here. Why? Because the fire has done no damage to the main floor. By pulling down the ceiling you are destroying the furnishings with soot, fire and water. You make the hole big enough to get your body through to look around for hot spots and be conservative with the water. How many fire departments have a step ladder available to do just that? If that was YOUR HOUSE, you better believe you would be very careful. Plus, all those guys in there doing nothing, should be carrying furniture and other valuables outside.

I think opening a combination nozzle in a fog pattern would create the most steam... smooth bore solid stream creates the least amount of steam and also penetrates into the burning material more effectively.. if you whip the nozzle around , that will allow for coverage

Maybe your attics are build different but that wouldn’t be very successful on most of our attic fires. Plus you’ve also created an overhaul concern. How do you look for hot spots if you haven’t opened up the ceiling?
