As a Chinese pianist, Li Yundi is most well known for being the youngest pianist to win the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition, in 2000, at the age of 18.
God, this piece is so ridiculously beautiful. I feel like 'beautiful' doesn't even quite describe how I feel about this piece. I can't find the words to describe it, but it's one of my favorite pieces by Chopin, and Chopin is one of my favorite composers. It's played so exquisitely here! It's a piece I would love to play myself sometime.
I totally agree! The way he played it was so beautiful, especially the ending with how delicately he did play all of the cadenzas and how he made it sound so fluid. Chopin was a genius when it came to composing for piano.
You hear these sounds, they sound like pearls glistening in the sun. At first they are shy and gentle, and then like a powerful thunder that suddenly goes out. It's Chopin's music, you hear the silence that Chopin plays ... it's a genius ...
I do not know any music that shakes my soul like Chopin's music does. I play a few pieces ( the "easy" ones ) by Chopin, and regret that I did not keep studying the piano when I was younger, as now for me it will be impossible to play difficult pieces, like the Polonnaises, I LOVE THEM....

Amon Goth, the SS officer in charge of Plaszow concentration camp (Ralph Fiennes in Schindlers list) let two Jewish sisters live because one of them played this perfectly for him on his birthday. Beautiful music to a chilling fact.
Kinda the same with what happened to the Polish pianist in the movie The Pianist. I guess being a pianist during WW2 surely had it's perks, especially if you're a Jew.
I like your trills, they sound natural and attractive like continuation of the melody which is difficult to do. Most pianists cannot do it, even famous ones. So bravo, Yundi Li. Your performance is simple and beautiful like I would emagine Chopin would play.
I love this piece, it is just really beautiful and sublime (Is sublime even the right word?). I just feel the grief and sadness about Chopin. This is also my favourite Chopin piece. Also, the runs at the very end are just continuous. Li Yundi did a beautiful job of interpreting this Nocturne.
Beautiful rendition of this piece. Some people might think that there are some notes missing in Yundi Li's playing, because the sheet music edition Yundi Li uses is not what is displayed in the video. He probably used the Koneman Urtext edition.
here reminiscing my grade 7 B piece. the ending scales were a pain to play, but this piece was so goddamn beautiful all those hours of practice was worth it.
It is so interesting when the scores are provided as visuals. I like lots of things about this. For one thing he makes the most beautiful sound and the range of colours is exquisite. But somehow, looking at the notes, I'm thinking that there are dynamics which are being ignored. All artists have to make decisions when interpreting a piece but for me what really makes this music "sing" is when the surface gets ruffled. Although these pieces were mostly performed by the composer in salons, they could never be described as salon music and what stops them from drifting towards this are the sometimes strange dynamics. The have to be embraced and absorbed properly so that they enhance rather than detract from the overall effect.
Ok, BUT it is a nocturne... so I completely get going toning down the dynamics slightly and not going all out like one would on a Mazurka or other dances like that
the slower versions always hit harder. more emotion in them! this guy was in a hurry and I don't understand why its a beautiful song when played slowly@@abcd-yg2rx
@@FelineRock It's probably the easiest nocturne but in general I would avoid trying to learn the nocturnes until you have at least grade 7+ on piano. Although at the end of the day if you enjoy playing it, why not give it a go.

Same here exactly what I’m doing en 😊😂
It's so wonderful you posted the music to follow along with! Thank you!!
I think chopin wrote this as practice for his piano concerto no. 2 . If you haven't heard I highly recommend that you do.
One of the best pieces ever
Chopin Etudes nice insight, thank you
If I’m not mistaken this was a piece written for his sister
That's exactly what I was thinking! Some of the themes are exactly identical.

my best of all the nocturnes
For me it is ONE OF the best nocturnes, individual jewels each with their own unique shine.
No. See the c minors and e minor.
Op. 48 No. 1
Since I’ve played this,my two cats have gone to sleep and are actually snoring their heads off, they love this.x
This magnificent performance is the humanity's lullaby
In my opinion.. Yundi Li is so good at playing chopin's nocturne series..
Mr Lee, your interpretation is the best.
Спасибо! Буду слушать бесконечно!!!

wow! what a beautiful rendition!
The best sentimental touching!
This Nocturne has been gloriously performed by the best pianists in the world. I find that this version by Yundi Li is the best.
Non rispetta proprio lo spartito però..
Try Władysław Szpilman's version. Played in year 1997. At his home. At his 86 years old.
Beautiful
The tuning really fits well. C sharp minor is the same keys of moonlight sonata, which is similar to night
Beautifuly played!
So beautiful
Grazie lazza per avermi fatto conoscere questo pezzo bellissimo
The best of all😍
I always think of Adrien Brody in The Pianist when I hear this.

BELLISIMA MELODIA!¡AMO A CHOPIN!.
Played this in a concerto last year , was magnificent , because of its slow rythm you are able to play it with so much emotions ..
I don’t think u played It in a concerto.
