Chopin was only two years older than Jan Lisiecki when he wrote this nocturne. Such a delicate, moving... This is how I imagine young Chopin playing and melancholy Polishness

Outstanding performance as always.

The conclusion is very clear. Those who can actually play the song never experienced the same way as those who cannot play any instruments. They are worried about notes and perfection and criticism about the performance, and they never really enjoy the way us mortals let every note leaks through every crack in our soul. No, musicians never shed a tear with this. They suffer the music.

Chopin... Even though I am Polish, I've somehow dropped into his music now... When I'm 35 yo. Perhaps I had to be mature enough to get it ... I had to listen his music for about 6 months to be able how to understand this kind of sounds. This man created such a masterpiece "Nocturne" should be always saved for the generations.
I'm proud to be Polish. Chopin and his music will be always a good reason to get as much as we can from our lives bcoz it makes you think about ourselfes in first place. Just enjoy.

EwaT Piano, an encore is by definition unannounced, so there's no way for a concertgoer to prepare by listening to recordings in advance. But common sense should work well enough. If you don't know the piece well, wait for the performer to lower his/her hands, or wait for applause from a substantial part of the audience; there's no prize for being first to clap!

The mistake was very trivial. This was a beautiful performance, and Jan Lisiecki has been one of my favourite pianists for some time now. His recordings of the piano concertos of Mozart and Beethoven are wonderful.

Saw him live at Konzerthaus Dortmund, Germany. Believe me, he is already world class at his young age. And this piece, well known from "The Pianist", is nothing more than perfectly interpreted. ♥

What an absolutely divine rendition of this piece, totally enthralled me! Timing, dynamics faultless.
Those trills are so hard to perfect, for absolutely every pianist I ever heard. He got them all and absolutely nailed some of them! And the long fast run that turns the piece from intermediate difficulty to really very hard - also nailed - but with perfect touch and musicality.

Really moving. He never looks at the piano, he doesn't need it. His body is only the perpetrator. It all comes from his soul. And the mistake doesn't matter.

People are acting like such snobs about his interpretation, I mean yeah, we get it, he messed up a bit on that particular section, but he pulled it off incredibly well. It's frustrating that people only choose to point out the negatives in order to make them look smart, but why is nobody pointing out the fact that he has a really beautiful and crisp sound or an amazing control and technique, especially for an 18 year old at the time?
You people need to stop being so harsh, unless you can do better than that, and given the circumstances (it was an encore, for God's sake; it's not like this was taken from a CD that he had recorded in a studio with no audience), I really don't think you can.
That being said, it might not be the best interpretation of this piece and you cannot compare it to Rubinstein's or Engerer's or Olssohn's or any other "well-known" ones, but that's only because the *context* of every performance is different. Just think about that.

He didn't mess up one bit. If you're talking about the slight mistouching of keys after the time signature change and calling it a mess up, you clearly have no idea how to listen to classical piano recordings.
