What if Skyrim was NOT Skyrim | My Brain is bad and does bad things without my permission

- This is just fanfiction as per usual, think of this as an addendum to the Ideal Elder Scrolls series aka "What if Skyrim Was Good" but it completely attacks the situation from a different angle. This is a quick overview of a daydream or passing idea that centers around Elder Scrolls 5 not going off the rails like it did and instead sticking a little closer to all the previous games in the franchise, obviously the landcape and towns would be reconfigured to more closely align with the Elder Scrolls 1: The Arena version of Skyrim you visit, and the story takes heavy queues from Elder Scrolls 2 and 3, with a lite touch on 4. The focus is of course on the FANTASY world of Tamriel, stripping out the Scandinavian-Viking-Lite culture Elder Scrolls 5.
I could imagine the thieves guild of skyrim being the most highly renowned thieves guild in Tamriel, simply because any thief who has survived a few dozen missions is utterly invisible because being caught is instant death. I would have generally liked it if the thieves guilds of various provinces had different specializations: Skyrim’s are masters of stealth, the imperial guild houses many exceptional diplomats, the High Rock guilds are masters of illusion, most potent stealth enchantments come from the craft of the Summerset guild, while Skyrim’s guild is silent as a shadow the Valenwood Guild stuns with the cat burgler skills of its members, the Eleswyr guild controls more than half the Empire’s economy with their trade skills, and an interesting alliance has formed between the Black Marsh and Hammerfell guilds whom plunder the seas with incredible and audacious acts of pirach that leave the Empire both furious and dumbfounded
The main thing that annoyed me in Skyrim was the way NPCs viewed religion. They were completely outraged at the worship of Talos being made illegal, yet every single city of Skyrim still honored the other gods in the Empire's pantheon.
They could have had Ulfric and his supporters wanting to revert back to traditional Nordic deities (Shor, Tsun, Stuhn, Kyne, etc.) and *completely* abandon the Empire's pantheon. Would have made the Stormcloak's struggle deeper and more meaningful, imo. If not this, then parts of Skyrim could have still been dedicated solely to these original Atmoran deities.
If you only played skyrim, you'd likely have no idea that those deities even existed
man, bethesda...
Also, how the hell did Markarth, Riften, Whiterun, Windhelm (it’s obvious why this one) and a couple spots in the wilderness all have Shrines to Talos?
There was just one NPC in Skyrim, Froki, who was very upset about Kyne being called Kynareth. And he gives us a mission to go kill a Guardian Skeever... It's almost as if self aware Bethesda is mocking people like us who give a shit about continuity :p
@@Fullmetalnyuu0 As someone who's only played skyrim (but later learned of the nordic pantheon through yt and wikis), i can agree.
@@DivNambiath we care when they don't considering what bethesda and by that point the empire is doing
if we look at from an Ingame perspective The Empire has Assimilated Nord and other races into worshipping their Eight Divine and forggoten their Nordic gods Completly
if we look at it from out side Bethesda has screwed up that or they failed to see how pissed Nord can get but why but in a Civil war based on reiligion if they don't follow the old way
ether way bethesdas stupitiy has let to the Nords not being nords remember when nord had a god of Ransom i member
40 minutes of pointless Elder Scrolls rantings from Zaric Zhakaron?...

funny looking chip taking a bath in piss this guys got some logic here
They did have it in TESII.
This makes me think as having a Daggerfall-esque trailer, with Chancellor Ocato speaking to you privately is some forgotten corner of the libraries in the White Gold Tower, telling you to support the High King and making sure he accepts the crown.
"However, there is a... lesser issue here. The Gray Beards of Skyrim have warned of the end of time, and their projections have only grown darker since the invasion of Tamriel. Many dismiss their words as empty, but paying heed where others did not is how the Empire survived for so long. If you can, delve into the aeon-shrouded myths and legends of the frost, and unveil what they see to mortal eyes. I pray it is only hysteria. But if it is not, we might rush headlong into the next crisis."
"Rest well tonight, and tomorrow you shall set sail for SKYRIM!"
set sail ? if you're on the imperial city I think it'd just be faster to go by carriage through colovia and bruma, even though the roads might be dangerous, i'd say its faster than going all the way to the golden coast, then go through boat by the western shores of Tamriel, only to arrive at solitude.
Personally I loved your what if Skyrim was good series. Although it did make me realize just how lazy Skyrim really was lol love your videos dude!
Big N'wah what are you talking about? The original comment was that he enjoyed zarics series of videos on the topic of what if skyrim was good. He never stated that skyrim was a series
Oh my mistake i thought he ment "elder scrolls"
Big N'wah all good
Ditto. Love it when people take the base of the lore seriously and logically build on it.
What if Bethesda had professional writers?
woah slow down champ, this is fiction not a asylum
It wouldn't be Bethesda
zaric keeps telling that he's an ass... i think, it's a hint for bethesda that he's very easy to buy for... corporate indoctrination.
Or professional game designers.
What does professional mean to you? Because It differes from dictationary definition. "following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain"
I would love to know why studios keep putting fake urgency in open world rpgs. There has to be some kind of market research that tells them general audience like the dramatic tension or something even though it completely works against the strengths of the genre.
Well as far as Elder Scrolls goes they have their market research in sales numbers. As long as these games keep selling well they're going to keep doing it. I don't like either but there's nothing we can do about it.
They always had this big problem in Morrowind of casuals having no idea what to do when you start the game (because they aren't there to experiment, you have to tell them what to do). And so to make Oblivion have more mainstream appeal, they made sure there was a driving main quest pushing at all times. Then they tried to make it not so terrible in Skyrim.
@Notion
Yep, that's the difference between Morrowind's journal system and Oblivion's quest log and map markers
I played Morrowind after Oblivion and Skyrim. What made the difference for me was the Imperial giving directions to Balmora, and saying so-and-so at the trader's might know better than him. It was then I knew it would be a good rpg
"Whale whale snake! Yay!"

I actually rly liked “what if Skyrim was good.” I thought it was a great critique of an established product. They say an artist works best with constraints, and the series put words to everything I was thinking when I played the game while giving insights to things I had no idea about.
"And as a professional jackass, it is my imperative to extend the proverbial middle finger and say it is my opinion that matters."
This is why I love listening to Zaric. Straightforward content is golden content, and we don't get that from others often anymore.
Rule 1 of Elder Scrolls lore: Bethesda makes it up as they go
nothing wrong with that. if only they could stop acting as if 50 years have passed between every title and all the older players/fans are dead and buried.
More like guts it as they go
They have done it with fallout as well it's fucking annoying
The MAGICAL MACGUFFIN SCROLLS OF FIXING OUR FUCKING MISTAAAAAAAAAAAAKES!
Every story is made up as you go between installments
What, you think Bethesda should have written the script for Skyrim before Arena was published?
I agree with most of your points but theres one I have to object to. Fantasy doesn't mean there has to be a "good ending". Ive always been disappointed Elder Scrolls stopped using morally gray options after Daggerfall in which you can side with the nobility, mannimarco etc. In Morrowind i should have been able to side with Dagoth ur or take over the sixth house, in Oblivion you should be able to rise up as Dagons Champion and conquer Cyrodill and in Skyrim you should be able to devour Alduin and become Emperor yourself. Fantasy means living out experiences you can't in real life. Forcing people to be a grand hero is never fun and i hated how in Skyrim my assassin thief was this Godking who was loved by everyone even though i was caught murdering the Emperor. Choice matters in Elder Scrolls or at least more options would make the game better.
All that would have if anything required more dragon breaks. Skyrim's power fantasy was horrible-- granted. But you can't just have alternate endings everywhere in a relatively linear timeline because that would make the universe a mess.
Then at least make it possible as a side note. Dont make it canon but decide on a specific ending. To me the dragon break is stupid because the Everything is Canon is complete BS. Have some balls and decide on an ending. Also dark fantasy is best fantasy
Valkbg
Exactly. Personally I think more grayer outcomes should be reserved for smaller sidequests.
I see you have never played TW3...or TW2... True fantasy with true moral that shows even in magic land there's no such thing as equality and righteousness
@@nikityshka666 whats TW2 and 3
Assuming Skyrim even still had a skills and attributes system, definitely would have been cool to have the Voice as another school of magic that theoretically anyone could learn. It wouldn't have been introduced in the other games because the only place to learn it is in Skyrim and maybe it's looked down on by other schools of magic.
That loading screen gets me every time XD
really interesting enjoyed your ideas a lot
nordic lore should have been exploited more in the elder scrolls V
Instead of doing Enderal and those mods someone should make a mod that makes Skyrim into something like this.
"People are bad people." - Zaric Zhakaron
Even if purely hypothetical, these alternative settings you keep creating are more entertaining that anything I've seen or played during the last years. Thanks for sharing :)
UA-cam occasionally recommends me this 4 year old video. I watched it years ago. Not re-watching it now, but Zaric should be on every TES fans radar. This video deserves a lot more than 70k views.
Thank you! I hate the fake urgency I feel in Skyrim and Oblivion.... I’m literally lvl 2 and a stub toe will kill me. I can’t cast spells cause I have no skill or magicka. Same with all other skills. It’s not as bad in oblivion but the character attributes and skills mattered when building.... but that’s a game mechanic not a story issue.
Crystal Danielle If you became a Breton Sorcerer with the Atronach stone you'd be unkillable. Just complete the mage's guild storyline (Since most enemies are spell casters and will therefore refill you magicka bar when they attack), level up and etc..
JollyOldCanuck I don’t need a tutorial on how to play Skyrim. Thanks for the advice, but it’s not a difficult game. My comment was more complaining about the role playing aspect than actual difficulty. I don’t wanna meta the game. I wanna actually role play and have mechanics that support that.
Crystal Danielle I was talking about Oblivion. The game mechanics for the game isn't really broken, not if you can really immerse yourself in the character build.
JollyOldCanuck Either way, I didn’t need a tutorial. And I was speaking more on Skyrim’s game mechanics and both ES4’s and ES5’s story.
Ooh boy a zaric video about skyrim, better get the popcorn
I'd play a spin off game fallowing an Alitmer student in the Imperial Mage's Guild, who becomes sympathetic to Nord Culture due to a Talos Worshiping Roomate.
"Professional Jackass" - please breed, we need more people like you in the world Zaric. XD

apart from showing how to be ridiculously cocky, absolutely nothing. egyptians and greeks, on the other hand......
Thalmor Inquisitor piss off u dirty elf
i have a personal fanfic idea for the faction systems if "skyrim was good"
instead of a singular faction of companions in whiterun, there are countless of warrior clans in each holds where warriors and adventurers could join with.some holds would have 2 or 3 clans who's either mutual or rival to one another, and some would only have one clans who's representing the jarl they served to.although the joinings, side quest, and radiant quest would be totally different. The main progression quest would be similar and every clans would have a crossover that would of course be a conflict to one another.Because all cleans reach to became the greatest clans in skyrim by fighting, duel, and destroys every clans that is stand in their way.But of course, the players could have their own decision whether to follow this suits or be humble and live one another with other clans.Warrior clans are basically guild halls who is differing and competing to one another for power and glory
you got Companions and the Silver Hand in Whiterun.Yes Silver hand are no longer be a random hostiles in the wilderness.instead, they are also a warriors group who's keeping the peace of whiterun and served Jarl Balgruuf.Still, their main goal was to cleanse werewolves and expecting the Jarl to puts his loyalty to the Empire as they loyal to them as well. Both companions and silver hand would inevitably became rivals.Even though Zaric's companions are no longer the werewolves circle of Hircine,a companion actually made a pact with Hircine and have already became werewolf.
The silver Blood isn't just a noble dinasty.instead, they are also a warrior clans who's taking over the mining industry of the Reach and aims to preserve it from the forsworn, bandits, and other rival clans that wants to take over their mining site.you could gain access to join if you decided to kill Madanach in Cidnah Mine.
in Haafingar there was the Vanguards.who is the most prestigious clans when they still served High King Torryg.after his death, the Vanguards lost their honor for not defending their king and they have to start all over again to restore their former glory in all over skyrim
In Dawnstar, there are raiders of the ghosts sea,and the Stormwalkers. Both clans have fighting one another even before the civil war.and after the civil war brokes out,two of them are joining differing factions.the Stormwalkers became loyalist of the empire and the raiders join the rebellions for an independence from the Empire with Stormwalkers as their primary target.
Morthal would have an Iron Hand. The Iron Hand was a new clan founded by a former silver hand brothers who seeks for their own glory and rooting out vampires instead of werewolves.and the side quest where you have to search and destroys vampire of Morthal would be very related to this clans
in WIndhelm, there's Sons of Ysagmor.pretty simple, they allegedly claimed to be a direct descendants of Ysagmor and aims to rooting out other clans of Skyrim who's also claimed to be His Descendants specially the companions. And obviously, they are loyals to the Stormcloaks
In WInterhold, there are White Axe and Mountain-Born.they are probably the only clans who's actually lived "mutually" one another because everyone in Winterhold are forced to put aside their diffrences and rebuilding their communities from scratch. However, there will be quests and decisions where players could either preserve their relationship and works together to fight other rivalring clans in skyrim or broke out their mutual pact and just straight up murders the opposing clans and raised up to subvert every other clans
clans of Riften was pretty interesting.By having the worst Squalor, civil unrest, and criminal rate in Skyrim, clans also followed the criminal injustice path to destroy their opposing rivals.there are the Anglermen,Blood Mead, and PeaceKeepers.the Anglers arose from a society of fishermen then grows into a warrior groups who would done anything to preserve their family's traditions and punished anyone who's stand in their way. They are also loyal to Laila Law-Giver but the jarl however, was as shady as Maven by having a quest to interrogate innocent civilians and threatens a shopkeepers.the Blood Mead founded by Sibbi Black Briar, yes Sibbi was no longer a weak spoiled brat who's in prison.Instead,he was a prestigious chieftain who's cannot be touched by the laws and have supports from half of Riften.Although the blood-mead was black briar's personal army,Sibbi have a very good allignment and always thinks over when it comes to approaching citizens and committing crimes.Still, the blood mead would commit a shady crimes as they are an ally to the thieves guild. And then there's the third warrior clans who's recently arose from an independent warriors. The Peacemaker. This time,Mjoll was a Chieftess of her new clans who seeks out any potential wanderers and adventurers for her rank.Just like her allignment, the goal was to keeping the peace of Riften and would become a vigilante if the laws couldn't keeping the peace from crimes. All of these three clans would fight one another and there's no way to negotiate or an alternate endings other than destroying one another
Finally in Falkreath, there are the foresters.the foresters are officially loyal to the Empire. However since civil war was broke out, many of the former members left out from the clans and became bandits in the woods.and some among their ranks were loyal to the stormcloaks and aims to infiltrate the clans to be subverted to the stormcloaks.
as you may aware, some clans have their affilations with either stormcloaks or Empires.Because the civil war Arch would be Integrated to the skyrim clans faction Arch and no longer be separated into a different storyline. That doesn't mean the civil war arch would be cutted down even more.Instead,it would be no longer as easy as go to the capital and swore an oath to join either stormcloaks or Imperials.Instead, the factions you join will be determined by your decisions as you progressed through these warrior clans walkthrough or reach the highest rank of one of the clans.
For instance,if you successfully blackmailing the Companions by revealing Aela was a werewolf as a Silver Hand.Kodlak would be demoralized and forced to join the Imperials for the sake of Aela's life then General Tullius would send a message to you if you're interested to join his army
another examples after you kill your own warlord in a duel and become the new Warlord of Sons of Ysagmor,Ulfric would notice your prestigious victory and ask you to join his ranks against the Imperials and the turncoat clans who's joining side with the Empire
chaos lord i read all of that 😂
Great ideas! Make a mod!
I know this is an old comment, but I found a lot to like in your ideas. I want you to know that I plan to use some of them for a Skyrim-themed D&D campaign I'm running with my friends. The inclusion of several named clans in the major and minor cities of Skyrim will help flesh the world out, and add to the Civil War threat and questlines. I hope I can do so with your blessings. :)
@@indoril1207 wow cool bro. I never guess my old ideas could be used for a D&D roleplay. Thank you so much.
lately though, i have written a fanfic ideas if oblivion got a remake with the same treatment as final fantasy 7. Means that the game was rebuild from scratch and retconned and expanded upon with additional features and lore. There are new factions, new questlines, new characters, and some character from the original game were expanded to be more essential than before. And the gameplay was not overhauled, but changed to be unfamiliar with the original to make oblivion a true RPG
Hey, that's awesome man! I never played all the way through Oblivion, but I'll hit you up for some ideas if I ever decide to run an Oblivion campaign as well. XD
Related to that C-Grey video and on the topic of heretical powers, I had the thought that it'd be a very interesting mechanic if the magic within the blood required a "pathway" to reach its destination. So the Inheritance may fall to the child of this branch of this family, but if that branch dies then there must be a living ancestor higher up the tree in order for that bloodline magic to trace its way back and seek out a new branch. Think of it like a rudimentary intelligence navigating through a growing set of tunnels always seeking the longest tunnel. The tunnels can lose life support (The hosts die) so it has to find its way backward to seek new living tunnels where it finds the longest again. If it cannot backtrack, then it withers and dies without life support with no connection to the others who technically share similar blood.
This interpretation both adds weight to the magic and preciousness of the bloodline magic, and weight and importance to the lineage of that family. The parentage must be preserved in case of crisis, and losing a great grandmother is almost as tragic as losing the Crown Prince. If the Crown Prince dies, the gift can backtrack to the Father or Mother and into a Sibling if any are valid.
This adds intrigue as someone of another branch of the family may have a serious vested interest in preserving the life of the hinge points that would be required for a gift to pass to them, and they'd have to methodically assassinate each generation of that other branch family up until they would be the next valid candidate, whereas members of the gifted branch might choose to assassinate an elder specifically to cut off the other branches from possibility. An honor culture might have the elderly submit themselves in a form of seppuku tradition when there's a time of conflict, or they just reach some certain age or a certain number of generations have grown up ahead of them.
interesting, these are some neat ideas. One thing i'd like to see happen in these sort of games more often is your character becoming a noble, at least a minor one. So you gain some land to rule over and become part of the local politics in a more prominent way. This is somewhat sensible given the crazy shit the player character does all the time in quests.
That's actually a great idea. Taking Zaric's alt Skyrim story it would fit well to have the trope of Blades withdrawing due to the appearance of the Thalmor in southern Tamriel after Act 1; you becoming a noble with your own land for helping the current High King, then experiencing the attacks of the draugr first-hand on your own stead. Would make the story of defending your new home all the more personal.
The title of this killed my mind.
All heed the words of the Glorious Lorebeard Zaric Zhakaron!
Inconsistencies aside, your "what if ES was good" series is by far my favourite, must've listened to them a dozen times. More of this sort of thing, please!
I'm a sucker for true first person camera action. So that would be nice in the next game. Thank god for Skyrim mods XD

Thank you. That is the equivalent of saying do it yourself if you didn't like the food you were served in a restaurant. Everyone has the right to criticize something. It's not that there arrogant just dissatisfied.

5:07 Battlespire does in fact take place during the last couple years of Arena's timespan, so it also is in Uriel Septim VII's reign! Though during the Imperial Simulcrum as he was captured in Oblivion by Jagar Tharn, of course.
Skyrim was my first Elder Scrolls game.
(I was/am a FallOut player [original series] to the same degree you hold yourself within the ES universe )
I found your channel not long ago, watched most of your in depth videos, and have since purchased GOTY versions of Morrowind & Oblivion. {I like having physical copies of games, so I haven’t yet gotten Arena or Daggerfall} one of my newest & favorite channels. Thank You Sir.
You're going to want the digital version of Daggerfall from UESP.
I don’t mind playing using the digital version, in fact I intend to use the ones he mentioned in the videos for them. Haha, I just love having physical copies of games, it’s a quirk, but also I’m a collector. It’s prime time right now to snag rare oldies too.
People should really start making mods based off your fan fiction.
I sure as hell, would play it.
I think the Morrowind mod called Tamriel Rebuilt: Skyrim - Home of the Nords comes as close as we can get.

LOL I had to laught when you said "riverwood was a city state" In skyrim its like three houses..........
yeah, bethesda really fucked riverwood.
Gerdur's family moved there a few generations ago and started the mill. It got dragonbreaked.
Skyrim was my first Elder Scrolls game, and I did enjoy it. I did read comments from other gamers who played oblivion and Morrowind.
I played JRPGs, and was familiar with the team concept most video game RPGs presented. My thoughts on Skyrim is that Bethesda wanted a jack of all trades / godlike character for player freedom and expression.
I suppose Skyrim was changed, or dumbed down, for newer TES players, like myself.
I appreciate your view on the series, as I’m only deeply familiar with Skyrim.
I would not overhaul Skyrim as you would, but I would make changes and tweaks to the story, some enemies, voice acting, and the endgame.
Good Video, though. Thought provoking.
I just realized, the helmet is a meme of its own!
I know the feeling of having a brain like that. There are a few games I can barely play anymore, because the image I have painted in my head about how good it could have been has now dwarfed what it is.
God I loved the life of Brian reference.
You should write for Bethesda
He has mentioned this and spoken against the idea before.
His own series*
not to mention bethesda isnt too great to work at lol
The stories wouldn't be any better. They'd make the game and then tell him to write a story and lore around their game mechanics like they do to all of their writers.
Zaric for new loremaster
Huh, your spectral army vs draugr army idea was an idea I also had myself a couple of months ago as an addendum to your "What if Skyrim was good series". What a coincidence.
I haven't watched any of your live steams in the past 6 months due to work and study. But yeah, my idea was similar to yours but more in context to skyrim source material and was a little bit different in the sense that Alduin when bailing out to Sovngarde to eat the souls of the dead would have entrusted his lieutenants with amassing an army of Draugr and staging a massive attack on the province ending with a winner takes all final battle.
Still, I much prefer your "old lore" approach to Skyrim than what Bethesda pushed out.
I like the nords in this alternate timeline that doesn't actually exist because they are not stupid.
What I hope for in TES 6:
- No prophecy
- No quest markers (Morrowind style journal)
- No fetch quests
- Real time events taking place in the game world (war, disease, treaties, councils, migration, social gatherings, meetings)
- No voice acting (this is contentious)
- Paper style map like Oblivion
- more HUD options and functional in-game menus
- Challenging and unique puzzles (not snake, eagle, dolphin)
- Complete overhaul of levelling system (no perks, more emphasis on specialisation)
- No enemy scaling
- In game economics with freedom to buy/sell/rent property and business. Ability to fund various factions and their cause
- Plot and side quests that are interesting (As in Morrowind, and I suspect Daggerfall too although I have not played it yet)
Nigel No fetch quests? Half of the game is gone, even in morrowind there were fetch quests.I think fetch quests should be for low level let's say Fighters guild members or something.
Morrowind had a lot of dull side quests dude. And Daggerfall was EXCLUSIVELY dull side quests.
Rick Berman McCallum well to be fair to daggerfall I believe most of the quests were radiant.
I see what you are getting at, but they feel like a chore - especially in Morrowind. There is so much more potential for quest variety now with the writing talent BSG could hire and the flexibility of modern software -- The simple fetch quest need not exist imo. A low level guild errand could be something like gathering information on other factions, escorting diplomats and delivering messages.
I'll just tell you ahead of time you're going to be greatly disappointed.
Zaric you mentioned one of the classical perks of the dragon blood was insight, how did that insight serve the Emperor in Arena when he was replaced?
But what if... Skyrim was Skyrim?
"professional jackass" this is how I know its gonna be a great video.
Skyrim could be good if there was a mod tht could add additional land between townsmaking the map about 4x bigger with added land inbetween
Fallout is Skyrim
Swifty Unknown that makes 0 sense,Fallout is a franchise, skyrim is not a franchise,it's apart of one called Elder scrolls.

I Just like listening to our true beardless Lorebeard
Please finish your Before Skyrim series! I know it was a long time ago, but I really enjoyed the first two episodes.
I would play your alt-Skyrim, Zaric, if I, as a Nord, could cut out the tongues of my fallen foes and use them to hold speech like an enchantment. (Look it up if you don't know)
i'm sorry, but you are just another idiot who's taking selected episodes of christian and anglo saxon anti-viking propaganda too seriously. beware fellow gamer, these are very dangerous times to fall for any idealisms.
I make these videos into my headcanon
I can't imagine high rock would have too many Daedric Cults running around after the Oblivion crisis given there propensity to Adventure in fact I would go so far as to say within a few years of the Oblivion crisis most of the Knightly orders of High Rock will have rooted out most of the Daedric strongholds that would remain in theory
You are the first person I have ever heard say that your brain does something automatically. Mine also does that with certain things.
Weeks, even months can go by without me conciously thinking about something I read, heard or saw and then suddenly out of the blue "Ah, so that's what it ment" for example. This always leaves me pondering why that random bit of information suddenly came up. A few times it has even solved mathemathical questions and translated foreign sentences. Surely our brains work in mysterious ways.
"Brain, why is this something you solved without me knowing?"
So funny you say "make your own game. Im an amateur game designer myself who has been watching your videos for inspiration. U mind i barrow an idea or 2? 😅
oh so the shouting is more like it originally was as the gift of kyne to the nords instead of whatever dragon stuff skyrim made up? Nice
(also yes i know this is an old video, i just discovered these and they're intriguing)
I'm not surprised to hear he's a former salesman, he's got that radio announcer voice
and not to mention the architecture was all wrong in Skyrim if you pay close attention to the Northern parts of cyrodiil they even talked about how the buildings are built in the old North style and if you look closely they're basically built into the ground like the actual Norwegian Vikings and those lots the Scandinavians used to make their old homes out of stone halfway in the ground to conserve warmth it work like an insulation but you got to Skyrim you don't see that anywhere I've looked
Could it be... Lore?
ah, now this is why i subscribed
I usually just watch your meaner monster videos in the background while playing a game and I love the commentary but damn I didn’t know you were this good! This video is great man. I’d donate and help ya out if I wasn’t broke like most of the world lmao.
Glad to see you played through the Vigilant mod. Superb story.
I liked more the "what if skyrim was good" version .The undead are to overused this days.
Completely agree with you on scale, they need bigger maps. More room to put more in and make any diverse things in it...more believable. I know full well why they made it as small as they did, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck. Games can't be so big they're a chore to get around, but they hardly are ever big enough to be believable.
Could you make a video on how to change Skyrim into how it suppose to look like, with mods?
What if chocolate made you fly?
What if smoke was made of thought?
What if....
Great take though very much enjoy these
As far as the Nords go, just simply getting rid of the all the Disneyfied garbage like the town guards and orphanages the Devs dumped on their fantasy Norse in Skyrim would have fixed a lot it. Bethesda really seems scared of taking a close look at the societies they describe their games.
Skyrim should actually have Alduin do stuff, so if you screw around too much Skyrim gets destroyed. EZ Clap.
Every single time you bring up anything from prior Bethesda games, or say that the stories aren't well written, you'll get a bunch of people screeching about how it's better now than it was then and how we should remove all the things that make Elder Scrolls special.
Your average mill worker or Innkeeper in Skyrim is probably a retired War veteran
I hope one day I can play a game written by you... excellent story
Love the idea of making the nords like demi-asgardians
27:00 This is something I want to see in a future game, and I always get shit on in comment sections by people who don't know what they're talking about when I bring it up. Why couldn't I learn the thu'um if I wanted to?
3:02 🐳🐳🐍YAY!!!!
That one cracked me up so much it's so true...
But Bleak Falls is snek snek whale.
"At least a bear"
I hate you for making me want things I didn’t know that I wanted.
Gabriel Cline Those salesmen skills though lol
People: don't feed the troll!
Me, bench-watching all Zaric's "what if" videos: but look how it grows! ^w^
I’d say looking back could skyrim have been so much better? Hell yes in so many ways. However I still remember my first play through and how much fun I had to this day.
I'm loving this video just like I liked you series' on Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim.
Winterhold is the capital of Skyrim in this exercise.
Great video Zaric!!! Very informative, Cheers
Damn that’s got to be a first!!! 300 likes; 0 dislikes.
Zaric you should just trademark the tan shirt it's your default character outfit.
Well, that sounds like a lot of effort for the people at Bethesda to write and code. I mean, a first act that can go one way or another depending on what you do? (I know, you can go with the Stormcloacas from the start, but does even affect what you do immediately after?) That's just ludicrously hard work. Imagine all the alternate dialog they'd have to write and record... And where's would they put their epic scripted setpieces, like the completely on rails escape because a dragon came in right at the time of your execution?
I really like the idea of the Talos ban happening around the player as the game goes on. It also gives way to some mechanical things that could happen. Let's say you and Talos are pretty tight since you showed up. Maybe you did some quests for the temple, earned an artifact or two, got a blessing with permanent benefits, maybe even got to speak with Talos, and then you have to renounce him or die. Talos knows ya didn't want to, but the words were spoken, so Talos has to leave you, taking away his perma blessing, artifacts, no more services at the temple, because the temple also needed Talos to operate. That yould mean part way through the game you're depowered, instead of just gradually gaining power. So then you either deal with it and go on, or take part in a rebellion to restore Talos worship.
So many roads not taken...
"Professional Jackass" my new favorite Zhakaron quote
Skyrim is just Fallout with swords.
Sorry Zaric, but you're TES guy, now and forever.
One thing I'd like to see; to get rid of the annoying easy to kill gnats (i mean dragons), a mod that replaces dragons with cheese spawners that spawn like 20 cheese wheels and you hear sheogorath shout "cheese for everyone" with thunder while it rains cheese. Imagine having that happens after you fast travel... lol
Been waiting on this
I have an idea for a skyrim I invented... so, basically we start off by making skyrim 8 or 9x larger than tes 5 skyrim, so each hold is roughly the size of old skyrim. After martin's death, there is civil war in Cyrodill for which distant heir will rule the empire, this causes other provinces to take on the chaos happening in cyrodiil, with daedra still around and civil war, tamriel is in chaos. The aldmeri dominion(thalmor more specifically) rises whilst the Septim heirs and the rest of tamriel are in civil war. They easily conquer their daedra problem with their elder magic, and than eat up valenwood and elswer (idk how to spell it right) the emperial legion is holding the thalmor off, but without an emperor and with a lot of stupid heirs whom mostly have only like, 5 or 10% actual dragon blood, they won't last. Lower hammerfell is lost under thalmor control, and high rock and morrowind have their own shit to deal with, too many kingdoms and a meteor amarite? Northern hammerfell is dealing with the thalmor in their province, and the last province is too stubborn to help, SKYRIM, the fatherland of man in tamriel. Ulfric stormcloak-(septim) is the high king of skyrim is none other than the only heir to Tiber Septim with more than 50% dragon blood, he's also a racist and nord religion only jackass. He hears the word "elf traitor killing simulator" and is like "where do I start?" So he joins the "great war" and sides with the empire, semi ruling the ruby throne from windhelm because it's the furthest away from the thalmor as possible, and safe...ish. Also, the oblivion crisis has stirred up the sleeping dragons in the mountains, and they're cranky and crazed by dragon waking oblivion shenanigans, so they start burning shit because they can. This is all based in a 20 year gap between oblivion, and when skyrim 2 is based, and our new mqin character starts his or her journey right after this gap. So, the nords are dealing with daedra, undead draugr and tons of mad dragons, they have to deal with altmer and... the prophecy, dah, dah, daaaahhh!!! So your character wakes up in a prison cell with all the other nords from your wiswg and instead of imperial escorting ulfric (btw, ulfric know as the thuum so same mask deal) it's thalmor, in short your character escape the thalmor in a dragon attack with Ralof AND hadvar, or you escape with a thalmor warrior whom, after you escape says that you could be of use to the thalmor (your character wasn't a soldier, just a rando person) she or he gives you a letter of entrance into the thalmor if yas wanna join, they go away, and you are left to explore! Ralof and hadvar say that you should join the legion or stormcloaks (not rebels, warriors of ulfric) and part their different paths, leavingu to explore!!!! Onnce and i f you trigger the main quest, u have to kill an evil whiterun dragon, after finding a tablet of prophecy for farengar (it depicts the prophecy) it's only the whiterun shard, I get the other shards, complete the tablet, get called up to hit hrothgar by the greybeards, find out more about the prophecy (they made the tablet), Lear you are ysmir, the one to save the world, you learn the thuum from them, you go 've the hour of judge windcaller which they say will improve your shouting stuff, mixing and whatnot. You get it, return to the greybeards who direct you to the blades in sky have temple, Join their order, be attacked by alduin at skyhaven, although he can't enter cuz dragon repellent magic, defeat him by learning dragonrend in the temple, follow him to sovngard fate killing dragons and undead In yo way, kill the avatar of orkey, whom you find out caused all this, not alduin, you kill him then alduin gets out of control so you summon a super dragonrend fus ro dah ultimate shout that forces him to land, kill him, save sovngard and leave a hero, the only people who know you are a true hero tnough, are the guild's you allied with before you went into sovngard, if you allied with them. Shor (whom lent his power to you) view you a blueish amulet and says that you are destined for greatness, and dissipates leaving you alone to wonder what that meant, also that amulet looks a lot like the amulet of kings.... next time on my version, dragonborn, dawnguard and gr8 war stuff!!!
Interesting idea about including a school of the voice near markarth. Not against that but would also like to see the graybeards included as teachers as well. Almost like they are the graduate course and you need to go to the markarth school to get the fundamentals.
Hurray! New Zaric's Skyrim! I'd rather congratulate and praise before watching the video rather than afterwards...
