- If you've connected to a trusted hotel, restaurant, cafe, or airport WiFi network and your phone or laptop it shows no Internet connection or doesn't take you to the sign-in page, try this tip to get you to the sign-in page using your browser. Works with iOS, Android, Windows and MacOS using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari, Firefox or any other browser.
Warning: Only connect to public Wi-Fi networks that you trust, which you know are operated by the business or institution you are visiting. If multiple Wi-Fi networks appear to have legitimate names (SSIDs), ask an employee for the correct network name and instructions for connecting. Never agree to download and install software or packages claiming to be certificates or similar in order to access a captive Wi-Fi network. Always be vigilant when accessing public Wi-Fi.

You need to be connected to WiFi, it's like when you have the X beside the WiFi icon.
Pretty much the same thing happened to me recently but what actually did work for me so that I got my connection back was holding the reset botton on the back of my wifi router for 30 seconds and now my wifis working. Though only my mac mini pc and my tablet was having trouble connecting for some reason. Hope this helps you if it hasn't.

This fix doesn't work for every connection issue, so it wouldn't be helpful. For the "scam" or "fake" responses, I don't understand that feedback tbh. It works for me often for the last 10+ years, because networking firmware is hard coded for this URL, even when using protocol.

This is how you'd need to connect as a Tor browser or constant VPN user also. Device needs to make the connection on some level.
I am currently facing a problem as well.
My device isn't responding to my wifi whenever I try to connect my device with wifi it always shows this “could not connect to wifi network"

Check your date and time first on the device. There are a ton of other reasons it won't connect. Proxy, frequency of wifi router vs. Device (2.4ghz vs. 5ghz) etc.

@@leelasankarchowdarykota those sound like firewall rules to prevent internet usage after midnight. The VPN is just tunneling through the blocks. They will eventually block the known VPN addresses, too.
So weirdly my wifi is shut off but bc of my wifi adapter it stays connected why does this even happen or even how?
When you say your wifi is shut off, do you mean you unplugged from power, or it's not connected to the internet? You'd need to unplug power for the wifi adapter to not see and connect to it

@@QuantumZer-0 it just serves as a forwarding link to the real captive network's sign in page. The network safety depends on the captive network you're signing in to.
How about on samsung phones
This works the same on Samsung phones, the manufacturer doesn't matter. I use this on Android phones, Windows PCs, etc. The redirection logic is on the network equipment, not your device.

That usually means you're connected to the internet and don't need to use the captive network login screen.

The first thing I check in these scenarios is the system clock, then renew IP address, but it can be lots of things.

It works for many captive networks because the networking hardware is programmed to redirect captive.apple.com to the captive site URL without an Internet connection. If you have Internet connectivity, then the captive.apple.com site just returns a "success" message in the upper left corner of the page.
I've been having this problem with my mini apple pc connecting to the wifi. Trying this link though still didn't work.
This trick works primarily with older captive networks. The first thing I would normally do is check date and time settings and make sure those are correct, then move on to IP and DNS checks
Well luckily I was able to get the connection right but none of the videos I watched help but at least I got it working again.

Everything else was working except for mini pc and my android tablet which was quite strange. Even tried the whole DNS thing didn't work but at least its working now
What if the connection is not in your name ..will it still help ?
Yes. This just gets you to the consent or login page for a captive network. You would still need the other person's username and password if those are required. This won't get you around that requirement.

This works on Android, too. I use Android as my main mobile OS. It also works on Windows, that's the beauty of it. Don't be dissuaded because Apple is in the url. It's a router side control, not device related.

It's not searching. That is an address expected by most captive networks, which will take you to the sign in page.

Nope, that doesn't work. The device in these cases expects and requires an https protocol site and in most of those cases, the wifi network is trying to trigger it with http protocol. It's security.

@@DoubleDbababoi that is a block someone put on the router then. My guess it's that they are blocking the video streaming protocol to to reduce per user bandwidth consumption.

@@DoubleDbababoi you can't. If the wifi admin blocked the streaming video protocol, you can't do anything with a decent playback experience. You could try to remote into another virtual machine if that protocol isn't blocked, but even if it's open, you'll likely drop a lot of frames and it won't be watchable video.

No, it's just a dated captive network that is using http, not https for initial access. The network itself could be malicious, so use caution there.

Not all connection issues are the same, this is just for the very common captive network issue using HTTP (not HTTPS). Another common problem is that your date and time are too far out. That also will make things appear connected, but you won't have access to web resources.
