    The Stromer is in a class by itself. In this world you get what you pay for . Ride one before you try to criticize it.

    The top of the line 2017 Stromer ST2S is (on sale) $10,000 CAN in Vancouver, B.C. Nice e-bike, but that's crazy expensive.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому

      Yeah, it's one of the most expensive electric bikes that I'm aware of at this time. The other "superbikes" are like full suspension carbon models

    Hi Cort,
    Can you tell me the plus' and minus' of hub driven vs. mid drive? Stromer is the top of the line, but are hub driven, I read this from a viewer on the stromer video:
    'Stromer needs to go for a mid drive system. I have owned both a rear and mid drive system and the rear drive is for mopeds not pedal assist bikes IMO. You can actually enjoy riding in lower assist modes with a mid drive. With a rear hub motor it is the top mode or bust'
    What does he mean ?
    For $10k for the ST2s why would they only offer hub when mid drive is better ? better for who? do you have to provide more torque / effort on the hub?
    thanks
    Tim

      I've driven a mid drive system (Bosch). That bike has been sold; have a Stromer now. I will gladly let your friend ride a mid-engine bike, ignorance (in his case) is a bliss

    Not cheap, but when you buy something cheap you might spend a lot of time focusing on the bad things, I would compare it to buying a high end tool or house, its not expensive if it works how it should all the time. It looks better than just about any other ebike Ive seen!

    Test drove the ST5. Great bike but needs a suspension fork at 10K price-point.
    About the ride : Immediately reached 32 MPH with more left in the tank. Great for straight-a-ways. Seemed hard to dive into turns but it was possibly the higher speed. Also quickly noticed the hard ride on small road imperfections. The shop was in a very busy area for test driving so I couldn't push it much harder. The shop offered to let me take it for a couple hours for a longer test ride. I opted out and went with the M1 Evolution R Pedelec.
    Totally illegal but I don't care. ( :

      Well, to be fair, the M55 Terminus is also pretty extreme in terms of price but doesn't offer the same fancy theft prevention tracking and electronic shifting features: electricbikereview.com/m55/terminus/

      Thanks, a lot of people are commenting on the relative high price of Stromer electric bikes but it's nice to see that they are dropping many of their prices year over year :)

    • @eBikeaholic
      @eBikeaholic 7 років тому +1

      ElectricBikeReview.com for sure. Sometimes it's hard to justify the prices when comparing them to similar forms of transportation. Hopefully the costs/pricing will continue to drop as they adopt the new 21700 battery cells.

    Any comment on the riese muller verses the Stromer. I’m loving the RM. I want simplicity a and great quality. I don’t want a derailer. The Stromer feels too complicated for me.

    I imagine they are quality bikes (they better be for the prices they're asking), but IMO those frames look clunky.
    Why in the world would they put the horn down near the bottom bracket? The bike may have fenders, but the horn is still going to get blasted with road debris.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +2

      Great observation, I feel like it will get dirtier down there but maybe it's less intense on your ears? I noticed that the Specialized Turbo Vado puts the horn in the same place so maybe it's a regulation thing: electricbikereview.com/specialized/turbo-vado-6-0/

    • @nickl8247
      @nickl8247 6 років тому

      Totally agree, couldn't think of a worse place to fit the horn! Maybe OK in the desert but not in wet and windy UK

    • @ElectricBikeReview

      I feel ya, Stromer seems to be positioning itself as the highest-end product, like a fancy car brand like Ferrari or Lamborghini which don't sell as many units but make more on each sale

  • @vheypreexa
    @vheypreexa 7 років тому +10

    $650 because it's just like an iPhone. No it's nothing like that. Their PR dept needs to find better way to softball that in there.

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +2

      I had a similar feeling but wanted to just listen and understand where they are coming from, perhaps they realize it's a bit expensive and feel defensive about it. If that's what they have to charge to make the numbers work, that's the reality I guess... but I feel like they won't sell as many of the upgrades as a result, maybe that's not a big deal for them?

    • @vheypreexa
      @vheypreexa 7 років тому +1

      Yeah, it really comes down to market economy basics. They're the only one with that. And those with the money, and want it, will have it. I just found the comparison to an iPhone a huge stretch.

    • @vannbrownvb
      @vannbrownvb 5 років тому

      Bring the price down, and you will sell twice as much! 10,000 for a bike is ridiculous

  • @JeepAndThings

    Being and old MTB rider, Stromer never appealed to me. I was hoping they had one that shows they are branching out to complete with the Bulls or Hati as well. sigh.

    I like how the guy was didn't want to say how much it was he said it is $799 1k more than the other one so he means $7999.00 what a rip

    • @ElectricBikeReview
      @ElectricBikeReview  7 років тому +1

      I noticed some hesitation on that, and the upgrade cost of $650 for the OMNI Connect for prior-year models, I tried to get all of the information out without being uncomfortable or rude but it did feel a little tense at moments

    • @nastythomashobbs
      @nastythomashobbs 6 років тому

      I have the ST2 You do not need to peddle to get boost mode. You just need to be moving forward. So if your chain broke you can push with your foot and then push the plus button and boost kicks in. I checked because my chain broke on my mid drive and I had to push the beast home. The seller should know that.

    Stomers look much the same as they did sev years ago. Features are nice, but don't want to scroll 'n' click to burrow through a dozen prompts to simply ride! For readouts, I want speed, odometer, battery range (with percentage dammit), and of course power level. (Stromers are freakin' heavy. I'm city focused, so distance for me means less than weight.)
    I did not understand how their capacitive touch display is not affected by gloves - must be this type:
    SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) Touch Screen
    SAW touch screen technology is based upon two transducers and a reflector placed on the glass surface. The waves are dispersed across the screen by bouncing off the reflector arrangement and received by the transducers. The touch is detected when the waves are absorbed. In comparison with the other touch screens; SAW provides superior clarity, resolution and durability, with the ability to interact with a stylus or gloves.

      Ghost Scalper Speed Pedelec is the way to go especially for somebody older. You pedal a little, you can go faster than you probably want to....and your getting some exercise. Throttle only is being too lazy in my humble opinion.

      Yeah, my girlfriend recently bought a used Toyota Prius for ~$4k and it's in very good shape, so these bikes present a strange value proposition at $5k+ but they are some of the nicer and fancier products on the market right now, I guess it's nice to have choices and diversity in the space, even if I personally cannot quite afford them :)

    Thanks for the great videos Cort. I entered a contest from FouseyTube for a car giveaway (my entry ua-cam.com/video/zmnM1NTarfA/v-deo.html )but i said in my entry that I would rather have win an Ebike. I would love to know what ebike you would recommend for me if I win. My current bicycle is a Kensington cruiser style step through manual pedal bike. I heard the "Stromer ST1 Elite Step Through" is a nice bike, but did not see any mentions of a low step Stromer in your video (only a mid step) and I would prefer a low step through. I live and ride primarily downtown and bike theft is rampant, so I really love the anti theft features of the Stromers.
