There are VERY VERY few albums where each and every song would be enough to buy the whole album. There are artists, even successful ones, who never achieve that feat in an entire career (I'm not sure I could name even 10 from my lifetime). Boston did it twice with Boston and Don't Look Back! Whether you listen with headphones and privately soak in the incredible sounds or share with the far corners of your city at ground-shaking volumes, Boston's music is the pinnacle of finely crafted melodies and counter-melodies from the guitar rock era. I have listened to their music for 40 years and I don't think anyone will ever match them - ever!

Boston fans might say "More Than A Feeling" is their best song, which who could argue right? Boston aficionados know that "Hitch A Ride" is their best song.
This song is the best song on the album for me. I remember being at Padre Island and my husband and I were just a couple years into our marriage (probably 87 or 88) we were so young. We rented a little VRBO …. We actually rented it twice over the years. Anyway we could look out the window and walk across the street and the beach was right there. It’s not that way anymore. Anyway we were at the beach with our boombox that played cassette tapes and we played Boston all day long .That day this beautiful Irish setter dog came up to us and he stayed with us for the rest of the afternoon. We have pictures of me in the water with him. We wanted to take him home with us, but when our day ended, he went on his way. Every time I hear this song I think of that day. ❤️
Let's face it...you're on a YT video pertaining solely to Boston (i.e. Scholz). My comment was essentially 'fan driven', rather to be taken literally. I have idolized Scholz since I was a teenager (I'm heading toward 50 years old). I've actually had the privelige to meet Scholz personally one to one some years ago and have been inspired during my life by Scholz by a vegetarian lifestyle, philanthropy, his music, electronics, ethical animal/human practices, playing/recording style/techniques and have spent 30 years collecting the Rockman line of processors/amps, which all reinforces my inspiration and love for Scholz and everything he's contributed to this world, both musically and otherwise. This is the sort of comment any fan would likely make....choose the artist. I realize Scholz isn't one of the best players of all time, and as you've said, no offense to him. He is one hell of an amazing player and yes, I realize he's classically trained on piano and I know more bio on Scholz than most people would. There are mind blowing players out there of all kinds and even 7 year-olds are ripping it up beyond belief. All in all, my comment is fan and inspiration driven. A Hendrix fan would claim Hendrix was the best. A Bach fan would claim Bach was the best. A Jeff Beck fan would claim Beck was the best. And so on. You are solely on a Boston video, therefore, comments like mine are always expected on any video of a specific performer of that group. UPDATE: It now appears that JJ removed his snarky comment to me altogether, the moment I followed up with my explanation above. 🙄
I remember my High School band director playing this album for me in 1976 and upon hearing it for the first time, I immediately became a fan of Boston. This was probably my favorite track on the LP and all these years later, it still is one of my favorite Boston tracks.
This is*THE* best recorded album ever, the songs are great, but in general, the recording quality, the double tracking the mixed vocals all of it just leads to the best recorded album ever
Since 1976, I've been a Boston fan. Since then, I've always maintained that Brad Delp was one of the top 5 rock & roll singers of all time. What range. I miss you.
@@johnbelvin5216Me to brother. Times back then were so much better than now. Great to escape this current mess and head back to better times in our youth with Boston. 👍

I saw Boston April. 1 1977 I was in 10th Grade it was at Cobo Hall in Detroit. They were awesome Brad Delp never seen or heard anything like him. They played all their tunes and said goodbye. The Detroit fans were having none of that...The house lights came on and we refused to leave.Brad came out and said they played everything...We refused to go..Being the great guys they were Boston played three songs all ready played again...never forget it..Detroit loved Boston. Those were the days at Cobo Hall.THAT WAS ROCK CITY............
When I am about to take my last breath, I want to hear the words “Carry me away for the last time” and then have the acoustic guitar solo begin my journey to Heaven and ride that electric guitar solo all the way up to the promised land and then slow down to the acoustic ending as I approach the gates to St. Peter
This was my first album I bought at the music store in 1976! I heard "More than a feeling "not knowing what the rest of the album was like! Descending triads common to Bach classical stuff ...panned through both channels...is totally righteous and epic. Toms parents listened to a lot of classical music.
The number of incredible guitar sounds in this one song is amazing. The solo is a masterclass in tone. The buzz saw backing chords around 3:24 are the perfect compliment to the lead. Amazing to this day. Vocals, performance, production.
This song brings me memories of my Mom and Dad. My Dad died many years ago, and my Mom died Monday. The guitar solo is heavenly. Carry me away for the last time.
My mom (an aging baby boomer) and I (a millennial, unfortunately) like to go for long drives together when there's nothing else to do. "Hitch a Ride" gets played a lot on our local classic rock station, and i have many happy memories associated with the song. I hope Mama knows how much I love her!
I'm right with you on that , it's just ....words fail me . Check out the following to see how it was done - Hitch A Ride guitar solo youtube channel Jesse Fildes Split screen so you can see the double tracking and harmonies etc. It is superb .
The only other one that comes close is the one by Slash in Sweet Child Of Mine. This came out in 76 when I was a senior in high school. Not a bad track on the whole damn album. You don't see that anymore.
Nothin' better than Brad and Tom! The voice and that closing solo....sublime. Some thugs broke into my house this summer and swiped all of my vinyl...including Boston's first album. I am only 13 years old, but I do have to say, I do listen to yesterdays music, such as this, because today's music is just plain garbage. By what I listen to and have seen, this was back when music was real and album covers were album covers.❤
Music was great then. Lyrics told stories. Singers didn’t have autotune. If you like vinyl rock album sleeves, you should check out the jazz albums. Not for the art but for the liner notes. They were making god tier word salads in that era.
These guys were definitely ahead of their time when they hit the scene. True guitar fans always loved their music. They did things actually a lot like Lynyrd Skynyrd did, in that the guitars would run off away from one another on solos and then come back and harmonize. Just a really awesome sound, and had such an unique sound that with just a few notes played into any song you instantly knew it was a Boston song, (also like a Skynyrd song). This is something that is kinda lost these days. I really wish they never had any of the legal woes that they had. It robbed us fans of a lot of awesome music over many years. I can't remember anyone ever telling me that they didn't like Boston, and that's really saying something. Boston was truly one of the most talented bands ever. Imho
Katie Hamilton here, using my husband David's phone....well said, disliking Boston would be akin to kicking a puppy, it's just not possible to dislike them unless you're insensate, inhuman or completely insane!
Hard to believe that this ass kicking album was recorded in Tommy Schulz Basement. His ingenuity has changed how bands at that time changed how their albums were recorded. Just listen to Foreigner. Schulz now works in Development at Sony. Nuff said. Doug Agosti from The Nu-Tones Toledo Ohio
This album and Don't Look Back are excellent! Kids today still love them! It's amazing to see that the young people are finding their way back to 70s and 80s rock and roll. Hitch a Ride!
To the 11 people who disliked this amazing song have no idea what music really is. You can like country, rap, techno, screamo heavy metal, but do yourself a favor. With no one around pull up a comfy chair in front of your stereo system, turn it up to 30, put this song on and just listen, then explain to me how you don't like this song.

For the 406 people that gave this a thumbs down either your confused and hit the wrong button or you have no idea about pure music talent cause this band had that and the singer is a once in a generation talent, his voice was like an instrument for him, not many people had as much talent in singing that he had, his Beatle cover band was a testament to the versatility he had

What a Beautiful memory , Thank You for sharing it . God Bless You and your Husband 🙏🙏🙏
In loving memory of my beautiful Brother

I’m 58 and believe this is arguably the greatest album ever recorded…
Definitely one ☝️ of them 🙏💯🔥
Not even close .
It was good enuf that they got sued by the rec label 4 not releasing a 3rd album n their contract, which they eventually did....
I tend to agree with that. I can’t think of any other rock album that is better overall. Just my opinion anyway.
@@Sca21121 the Cars 1st album Foreigner 1st album there’s a few other 1st albums that every song is 💯🔥and yes Boston
...who else blinked and somehow 44 years have passed since this song entered our lives, psyche and soul?....44 years?....gee whiz, Wally, I'm old....
LOL
Did you see that Ken Osmond aka Eddie Haskell passed away?
Always loved this song
I fell asleep in my 65 Impala SS in 1978 with this 8 track blasting and woke up in the middle of a damn fakedemic!
I know! I was in high school it feels like Yesterday listening to this great song. “How did it get so late so soon?” I think that’s Dr. Seuss.
I'm right there with ya man!
Greatest solo ever played
One of the best songs of all time, from one of the best albums of all time.
yes.
yes 100%!!
From one of the greatest musicians of all time...Tom Scholz
You bet your ass brother 👊
This solo changed my life
- Kilo- Gives you a very satisfying feeling.
In fact, it's more than just a feeling.
Raven I see the puns but I actually agree
This song and guitar solo influenced me greatly way back when...
sweetdixieguitar it’s truly amazing
I remember my High School band director playing this album for me in 1976 and upon hearing it for the first time, I immediately became a fan of Boston. This was probably my favorite track on the LP and all these years later, it still is one of my favorite Boston tracks.
This is*THE* best recorded album ever, the songs are great, but in general, the recording quality, the double tracking the mixed vocals all of it just leads to the best recorded album ever
Not a single bad song on this album
So true! Check out Red Can EP
Got to crack this ice and fly ❤
Since 1976, I've been a Boston fan. Since then, I've always maintained that Brad Delp was one of the top 5 rock & roll singers of all time. What range. I miss you.
I am 62 and still rocking to this song like I did at 16 when it first came out. Truly a masterpiece. Thank you Boston !
Im 63 and it still takes me back to my teen years and the memories.
@@johnbelvin5216Me to brother. Times back then were so much better than now. Great to escape this current mess and head back to better times in our youth with Boston. 👍

I was 12yrs old when this came out one of the best albums ever produced and songs from it. I'm from SOMERVILLE,MASS But BOSTON is my hometown always. I'm 58yrs old now and truly love and appreciate this song. BOSTON ROCKS LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL.
I cant get it loud enough
That guitar solo is amazing!! One of the greatest in classic rock
And it's an outro solo...
If you want to hear another great guitar solo, watch Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover at Austin City Limits. It is the one where he is wearing a marching band jacket.
Lost my dad April 12, 2020. This was his absolute favorite Boston song, and has always been one of my favorites as a result

The best song ever. Having a shitty day, put this on and you will feel better. Play it over and over and louder every time and the bullshit day is forgotten. Again, best song ever.

I still think this is most underrated solo in rock hiatory.
I'm 56 still rockin to BOSTON after all these years! This is rock and roll at it's finest!
64 here, every time I hear this is like the first time, we may be old but we got to see and hear the good bands!

57 now. But nobody rocked my world like the boys from Boston.

Not really underrated amongst players - it’s pretty universally recognized as a magnificent melodic masterpiece…sorry for the alliteration!
Underrated? Hahaha!

Just so nastolgically pleasing. I hear it "I hitch a ride" back to 1976 when this album was released and life was simple. I cranked this album so many times that I lost count. Awesome album. One of the top five ever produced.
One of the greatest albums ever made..Timeless!
RIP Brad Delp, one of the all time great vocalists, and Sib Hashian.
breaks my heart,,
And this is a song of suicide, with a happy vibe. Send him our love wherever he is
This song is one of their best as a band. Delp had a killer voice
He sure did.
When I am about to take my last breath, I want to hear the words “Carry me away for the last time” and then have the acoustic guitar solo begin my journey to Heaven and ride that electric guitar solo all the way up to the promised land and then slow down to the acoustic ending as I approach the gates to St. Peter
It's sort of the "poor cousin" in the Boston catalog, but it's their best song IMO.
Tom Schultz = musical genius
To bad he is an ultra liberal/Demoncrat.....RIP Brad Delp
Beyond genius. He started modern rock..nothing before this album has this sound

The lead in this song 🎵 is so underrated...
This was my first album I bought at the music store in 1976! I heard "More than a feeling "not knowing what the rest of the album was like! I was 10yrs old, and can you imagine being 10 and hearing (Foreplay/Long time) for than first time? My Dad came in and Said , "This is a lot better than that Kiss crap your older brother is listening to!" We were both blown away!😂
I grew up in the 70's. They were my Wonder Years. In my opinion Brad Delp and Lou Gramm were the voices of the 70's.
I hitched a ride with Jesus now i fill at peace🙏😇
Amen to that!!!!!!
Beautiful ❤
3:05 I have no idea why, but this part of the solo just blew me away when i first heard it. It still gives me chills to this day even after listening to this song many times.
Some notes are made to be combined and go directly into your Heart. Gary Moore was brilliant on that
@@davideroca9910la canción es de Tom Scholz no? Y el solo de guitarra es tocado por el también. O me equivoco?
@@ClaudiaMorán-l9v As long as I know, Tom Scholz composed almost all the songs when the band didn't even exist. Once the band was complete, they worked on those songs together to make them Better (think for example how much the songs are Better with Brad Delp vocals

Oh, the simpler times of a lifetime.
Young, free, and easy.
Jr. High School rocked!
This song brings me memories of my Mom and Dad. My Dad died many years ago, and my Mom died Monday. The guitar solo is heavenly. Carry me away for the last time.
One of Rock’s most memorable and underrated songs.
I was born in 1990, this is the greatest guitar solo of all time.
My mom (an aging baby boomer) and I (a millennial, unfortunately) like to go for long drives together when there's nothing else to do. "Hitch a Ride" gets played a lot on our local classic rock station, and i have many happy memories associated with the song. I hope Mama knows how much I love her!

Split screen so you can see the double tracking and harmonies etc. It is superb .
The guitar solo is amazing.....something about the tone and harmonies grab ahold of you.
Eric Smith yeah I feel it too.
Have you read "the story" on the back cover of the 1st album. SOMEBODY knew how to write when they came up with that series of paragraphs.
The only other one that comes close is the one by Slash in Sweet Child Of Mine. This came out in 76 when I was a senior in high school. Not a bad track on the whole damn album. You don't see that anymore.
@@Tony511utu I saw Boston open for Black Sabbath. They put Sabs to shame....

Nothin' better than Brad and Tom! The voice and that closing solo....sublime. Some thugs broke into my house this summer and swiped all of my vinyl...including Boston's first album. The holy grail of my collection. My girlfriend found an original copy for my birthday and it's framed on my wall. Peace and rock!

Think about what the lyrics mean. Deep.
Really upbeat sounding song but the lyrics have to be about suicide

I call this a complicated lyrics song. Kind of in line with Hook by Blues Traveler
My dad passed away in 2022 and used to listen to Boston in his Big rig truck back in 1977,it brings me a wonderful memeriory of him and how much he loved me it's great to hear this music now it helps me to cope with my loss of my hero.
That guitar solo at the end brings tears of pure ecstatic JOY!
I’m 67 ALWAYS hear this song like the very first time so long ago!
Top 5 guitar solos ever on tape.
@@spiritmatter1553 I will check it out, thank you and thanks for the reply.🤗
Back then all we had was the album cover and liner that was it,that was all we ever knew about the bands unless we saw them in concert.
Imho
Katie Hamilton here, using my husband David's phone....well said, disliking Boston would be akin to kicking a puppy, it's just not possible to dislike them unless you're insensate, inhuman or completely insane!

right about
those solos/

Hard to believe that this ass kicking album was recorded in Tommy Schulz Basement. His ingenuity has changed how bands at that time changed how their albums were recorded. Just listen to Foreigner. Schulz now works in Development at Sony. Nuff said.

Doesn't necessarily have to be loud to be enjoyed though.

Boston.. The only band in history that every song that was ever written gets radio play. Every song a hit also.
I never heard a song off the fourth album on the radio (Walk On)...I didn't even know it existed until this week!
This song is just perfection
For the 406 people that gave this a thumbs down either your confused and hit the wrong button or you have no idea about pure music talent cause this band had that and the singer is a once in a generation talent, his voice was like an instrument for him, not many people had as much talent in singing that he had, his Beatle cover band was a testament to the versatility he had
I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. Im 62 and hopefully I will make it till I'm 82. But my daughter has strict orders to play this song at the funeral home when I go. And no matter what, I told her to play it as loud as it can go. Just like how I listen to it. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
Of course!!
I had a ❤ attack last week. Went into ❤failure yesterday. I thought as well as the docs did, that it was over. So I pulled up this song to ease my pain, mind, anxiety among other things.
