I do love this video how you showed the first contact, the paperwork the inspection that was anything but aggressive in appearance followed by some of the warmest hospitality. While I'm sure that not all of Cuba is such as that dock and not all is as unwelcoming as some would have you believe, I think lady luck smiled wide upon you all.

Dear Rick, your words are rewarding. I am a cuban born in New Jersey, my Mom still lives in Cuba with my youngest sister. The myth of the US government against Cuba is very untrue. Cubans are as friendly as any other people, if not more than most. The Government is not a democracy, but they are not terrorists as the US politicians paint them. They welcome the Americans very well always, without doubts. The Obama administration reopened the official US embassy in Havana, and this Trump closed it saying that there was a terrorist attack against it by the Cubans, which I think was self inflicted to create a motive to do what he did. Close every thing up. Shame. I love you guys because you are a true window to the information that you provide, wherever you go. Thanks a lot. Lovessssss!!!!

So I looked him up! We had a GREAT time talking about the baseball games we played as kids. I turned him on to Tiki, and the rest of her crew, and he loves it! Not that long ago I sailed into Santiago del Cuba...( Famous for the sitcom "I love Lucy" in the sixties )
She "Lucy Ball" was married to a guy from this city..His Rich family had to flee to the US because Fidel Castro's Revolution started.
We had to sail through a narrow entrance in the Rocks...In the old days big Cannons on both sides of the entrance protected
the many Pirate ships hiding in there, it was proven to be a fantastic safe hideout for them.
The ships were anchored in the bay behind this narrow passage.
Sailing into Santiago del Cuba was a very nice experience and I loved the people living there.

Anchors away for Cuba ... yay! ⚓
You know I've been waiting for this one. My Aunt & Uncle being part of the hydroplane racing circuit, used to tell me wonderful stories about the nice people from a beautiful land. No doubt that still exists post revolution despite major changes there. I imagine you will have an enjoyable time there. Still there is a difference between visiting and living in Cuba. Cuban Americans will share that with you. They miss their homeland terribly, but would not go back there to live.
Can't wait to see more. Loved the gorgeous compass 🧭 ... hearing the native songs 🎶... seeing the beautiful fresh catch of the day 🐟
Enjoy your stay! I'm sure it will be memorable! 💃

Something else that would be cool would be showing data while cruising, like depth, speed, maybe the occasional position on the GPS w/ direction and ocean data. It's NOT a criticism just a suggest and yeah it could make the video a little busy but once in a while seeing that would be interesting. I liked when you noted the depth since the bottom was so visible. I like how knowledgeable you are about sailing so it would be cool, especially for a novice lake sailor like me and perhaps others in the audience, to hear such information from time to time, and how you make decisions about navigation when perhaps the GPS mapping doesn't comport with the situation on the ground, so to speak.
I will offer that I've not heard, in recent years, negative reporting about Cuba. Obama began the process of normalizing relations, I know the populace is much like anywhere, people know other people are people as travelers to China and Russia have also discovered. There's been a history about reporting on Cuba that's evolved, and I bet I go back further than you, because I remember the Missile Crisis as a very young boy with a Lt Col father. But it's been a long time, and overall I don't feel like I've been led to any horrendous conclusions about Cuba or it's people unless it was negative reporting about a particular political figure's attempts to improve the relationship based more on politics of that political leader rather than facts.

I went dancing in Cuba with a dance group in 2007 and 8. wonderful place. We were on a cultural exchange exemption. Ended up befriending a few locals and got to see the place where tourists never go. Fun was paying for our guides gas in a plastic container of less than a gallon. Enough to drive us around in Havana. The media and US Government are still in a 1950s mentality where American Tobacco lost their tobacco plant. This embargo from 70 years ago is just plain stupid. On the other hand it is a step back in time where making money is not a priority but just living and enjoying life. Not totally socialist, not too capitalist but there are a fraction of entrepreneurs providing services for tourists and finding little ways to have a little more than others due to their working a bit harder. Since there is no incentive to work harder the lack of incentives keeps the good fish in the fishing villages and the best crops at the farmers. We ate at a nice restaurant and they didn't know how to cook a big fish. I recommend the beans and rice they make. It is the best in the world. They used to get $8 usd equivalent per month, now it is $10 or so. Enough to keep fed and comfortable. I am jealous of seeing those fish. In Havana, that would be very rare to find as there is no incentive to fish too hard to send off to the cities. I hope the knife was traded for a few fish. Those type of things are hard to get and it will have a very very long life with a story attached to it. They may sing songs about you and the knife. Barter is way more important than money in those rural areas. Great Video.

I gotta disagree with some of what you said around 26:00. The media does not preach, and the average person does not believe, that the PEOPLE of Cuba are evil or bad. I don’t believe that me, the folks next door, or anyone else hates the poor people of Cuba. It’s the government that’s the issue. Not the people walking the street.

Capt Rick, you’ve named this video most appropriately “FORBIDDEN LAND”.
If you think it’s nice now, you should have seen it, lived it, before communism. What you’re seeing now is a run down country. of a people that struggle EVERY DAY OF THEIR LIVES to make ends meet. Not free to travel out of the country or freedom to speak your mind and if you dared, you will be severely dealt with.👎
However, the one thing that communism cannot take away is the human spirit of the people nor can it destroy the breathtaking natural beauty of Cuba 🇨🇺.

Being older than rocks and dirt I recall with clarity living through the Cuban missile crisis but being Canadian I don't recall a lot of negative propaganda in our media about Cuba. OK maybe there was during the sixties but that leveled off once Viet Nam dominated the news and Trudeau became our Prime Minister. Until recently Cuba was a bit of a black box.
