Hello , don’t worry about getting old, worry about not getting the chance too , I’m 76 and learned not to plan too much but go with the flow and enjoy every moment we can ,this came after serious enough cancer at 50 , I’ve been so grateful for the chance to get older , I’m still having fun , remember you can’t please everyone it’s not your job , learn to say no! Don’t put anyone on a pedestal. , value your time , have a great life ,xx

Hello Dr Paul. Iranian girl here🙋 Thanks for your great videos. Your voice and calm manner of speaking is so relaxing 😊🌷
I'm a Highly Sensitive Person, suffering from a disorder that I think is both similar to anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder (Drs here never gave me an explicit diagnosis. Only tons of medications).
Overthinking+ overanalysing+ a terribly good memory for daily details is my awful signature! It bothers me more than everyone else, and if I'm in a relationship, it annoys that person too.
And it sucks even more, here in Iran, because no one understands me😭 Everyone just says "you're too sensitive, u'll never find a husband n die a spinster"😒

Dr. Paul, I recently listened to your podcast with a lady Minister from
the Caribbean who pointed out a healthy perspective on when we think we
are in the worst situation ever in our personal lives. She has a
history of horrific abuse/trauma but overcame it using a few strategies.
One of them is that we are not alone and that there are so many
millions of others that are so worse off and in severe pain. So our
situation may feel like the worst of everyone but it is actually not.
Then she pointed out that what kept her going was nurturing the feeling
of hope.🌈 She found ways to nurture that. She also pointed out that she
survived because she told herself that he situation was temporary and
believed that things would change. There were a few more perspectives
that were helpful. During the pandemic, 😷and now with more variant
strains of covid on the lose all over the world, these vids of this
topic are a regular "go to" to help with the coping. Thank you so much! 💚🇨🇦

    • @manichairdo9265

Known as fear of people. In truth, most people don't even bother thinking about us. Nor can we control what people think about us anymore than they can control us. If you do offend someone, they will probably let you know. Then, you can set things straight. Nor are you responsible for other folk's reaction to what you say.

Overthinking is my biggest issue and I’ve figured out it’s a defense mechanism when I’m afraid to make a move….a by-product of my own insecurity. To not decide, is to decide, right? I tend to have an addictive personality anyway with sugar, cleaning, eating so this really resonated with me. Great insights that gave me plenty to THINK about! !

Overthinking? Please...my inner voice doesn't shut the f@ck up! You'all might know this but some people do not have an "inner voice", do not hear themselves think, or what's otherwise known as "having an inner monologue"! Some think in pictures, or abstract concepts, seriously, I really don't understand it myself...this totally blew my mind.
OK, now off to watch the video :)

my kids and i left my abusive spouse months ago. i see a lot of the same negative (rude harsh impatient angry self centered egotistical ) attitudes and behavior in our 16 year old daughter now. I have read a lot about the effects of domestic abuse on the children. do you have any specific advice for single mom parenting teen daughter in this recovery stage of our lives? My son is older and he internalizes more and shuts out anything from his life that he cant control. I'm a Christian mom so any advice based on those values is appreciated!

"Thinking about it" is really, really not the main problem with cancer. Feeling excruciating pain is way more of a problem. Dying is often way more of a problem (even if you wouldn't think about it). Do you ever think critically about anything? Do you ever try to argue both sides of the coin, or are you always just jumping head first into the deep end of your confirmation bias pool?

I can totally feel you. I try so hard to live in the now, but I can’t stop worrying about the lives of my children. It’s like if I have to have under control four lives. And then I hear quotes like „Think every morning that this will be the best day of your life“ and I ask myself if the inventor of that quote was a parent.

Give ur brain a diff thing to think about. When u r trying to sleep & ur brain is going blahblahblahblahblah & wont hush, count. Just count. 1,2,3, & on. U literally cant focus on 2 things at once. I use this a lot. Sometimes i dont make it to 50, other times i get to 500 BUT the point is, my brain is busy w/ something else so i can relax & sleep. This way Im not just fighting the thoughts till 2 or 3 in the morning. 👍

No one should stop over thinking, you are saying that over thinking is bad? I say its good, over thinking stops us to make too quick and bad decisions, it is far better to over think than not think, if you over think you may see the hidden aspects of otherwise too obvious things, the over thinking makes you to go against the crowd in a distorted reality.
